we are so ableist about memory. people with good memory take for granted the fact that they can recall as much as they can, and use that to taunt, guilt and threaten people with memory issues. many neurotypes and mental illnesses cause memory lapses. traumatic brain injuries can cause memory lapses. brain cancer can cause memory lapses.

even if your memory is good, it's not right to guilt someone because they can't remember something. trust me, people with memory problems are desperately trying to remember: it's just that we literally can't. it is a very literal "i can't remember".

A little reminder that the "scary" neurodivergents belong in the community too. The ones with intrusive thoughts. The ones who seem self-centered.

The people with ocd, bpd, npd. Stuff like that. They belong here too.

when are privileged people going to realise that bringing diversity to media and the market does not mean privileged people writing marginalised stories, but rather it means uplifting marginalised creators so we can all exist on an equal playing field

(this is not to say don't write a diverse range of characters — that's great when you do it with good research and respect — but i want to see equal platforms for marginalised creators, not just marginalised characters)

i know anxiety and menstruation are used to dismiss many people's health problems but my god it makes it so fucking invalidating to exist as someone whose problems are genuinely caused by those things

my mental health problems are caused by my menstrual cycle. they're disabling and disastrous.

my anxiety is disabling, i cannot leave the house.

my anxiety was the cause of my chronic fatigue.

anxiety and periods are real, valid causes of suffering. we need to stop dismissing that. just because your problems might be caused by other conditions doesn't make problems caused by "just anxiety" any less painful to deal with.

nothing makes failure hurt more when it is genuinely all your fault.

if you think that it's ok to police whether or not someone can identify with a queer label then you have missed the point of being queer to begin with.

being queer is about not conforming to the rigid boxes and expectations a cisheteronormative society wants to put us in. it is about self expression, inclusivity, and freedom to be ourselves.

it is not about making more rules and exclusion about how people can exist.

labels and identity are fluid and mean different things to different people. at the end of the day it doesn't affect you one jot if a trans man identifies as a lesbian or a bisexual person only dates girls. labels are a personal experience.

just let people be themselves. it won't hurt you.

It always hurts me to see people on here call 200kcals worth of food à “binge” because it’s not. A binge it’s a large (and I mean large by general social standards) amount of food that you eat in an uncontrollable way. Not a bit over your limit. We should bring more awareness to the effects of binging and what it actually is because stuff like this can be very alienating to those of us who actually struggle with this

no??

someone else invalidating your disability is not the fault of higher-needs disabled people, it's because of a lack of understanding and an ableist mindset.

high support needs and 'more disabled' people are not a threat to those of us with lower support needs, and we need to stop pretending that they are.

to say that they are 'only acknowledged by the public to invalidate less visibly disabled people' is a harmful statement that perpetuates infighting and lateral ableism within the disabled community, and erases the very real dangers and challenges that higher-needs disabled people face.

being disabled at any level sucks, but there are some of us with more privilege than others. independence is a privilege. mobility is a privilege. mainstream communication is a privilege. yes, invalidation hurts, but it is far from the biggest issue that disabled people face, and we need to be uplifting the most marginalised in our communities instead of shunning them further.

the problem is not people who are more disabled than you.

the problem is the system that is not designed to accommodate all of us.

it is possible for someone to be 'more disabled' than you, and that's okay. all it means is that they have higher support needs and their disability disables them more than yours does.

that is not an attack on your validity as a disabled person.

that does not mean that you are not disabled.

someone else's disability has no impact on your own. there will always be someone more disabled than you. that is completely okay.
