I'm back in fire fighting mode. This is the most stressful mindset to be in. Why is it comfortable? Why do I keep defaulting to this. This isn't healthy for me.

I scheduled a therapy session. I don't know what's wrong. I'm just tired of things being the way they are.

Cherokee double wall basket purse, braided cotton cord strap, commercial shell flowers, bear stone button. Worked on and off on this for about a week.

I got the idea from the strawberry baskets I have seen various weavers make, I may try one of those next. The woven flower was difficult but I enjoyed it at the same time, stems are getting easier to sculpt. I don't really like challenges, I've had enough and I'd like my life to be easy so this is a nice way for me to work on that intolerance. Blueberry and Huckleberry are the same word in our language, you may find a dialect difference.

Frequently I encounter non Native folks who tell me they think reservations are some form of reparatoins to Natives from the US government. I even had someone close to me tell me they thought reservations were places to “reserve” our cultures.

Where I’m from (South Dakota) reservations were concentration camps where they sent us to die after they stole and colonized all of the land every US citizen occupies. In the early SD Rez days our ppl had to get permission from district agents (white settler men) to get food, fix our homes, or even leave our community to travel to another community on our Rez to visit relatives. We couldn’t hunt cuz they killed millions of our buffalo. If we didn’t get permission from the white settler agent we couldn’t eat, fix our homes or visit relatives because we would be violating US law & could be arrested. Also our cultures & ceremonies were illegal under US law until the Indian Religious Freedom Act in 1978.

So plz educate the ppl you love and care abt because everyone in the USA is living in an illegal settler colony, Indigenous ppl survived their genocide & we’re her to say these settlers never gave af abt us & never will.

Longest video I’ve ever made and still barely scratched the surface. When we engage in the art of hair braiding, we infuse it with the purity of our intentions, a gesture that takes on profound significance when it's the tresses of a beloved individual we weave. The act of braiding becomes a powerful symbol, as we intertwine three sections of hair, each one representing the mind, the body, and the spirit.

In my youth, my mother would lovingly braid my hair, creating cherished moments that have left an indelible mark on my heart. As the passage of time bestows maturity, I find myself continuing this timeless tradition by tenderly braiding her hair. In this cycle, we bridge the generations, preserving this beautiful connection that transcends both time and space. The hands that perform this act of love and tradition are mine, as I braid my mother's hair, perpetuating the legacy of our shared bond.

Though there is no such thing as a fireproof plant, the species repped on this shirt are fire resistant, drought tolerant species native to so-called "California". they are excellent for native wildlife and pollinators, and endorsed for landscaping use by Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego county fire departments.

Consistency is not having 100% every single attempt, consistency is giving all you got every single attempt. Some days you might have 0.0001% to give. That’s okay! That doesn’t mean you won’t be successful. Consistency, success, healing, none of these processes are linear how we think they are.

Give it your best shot, that’s the most anyone can do. Maybe yesterday wasn’t your best day. That’s fine. At least you showed up. That’s the only thing we can ask of you.

Was given a note from my partner today. I'm not sure how I'm feeling after reading it. I know what is being expressed but my knee jerk reaction wasn't to their desire. My reaction was self centered. I haven't spoken or seen them since reading it. I'll read it again at lunch and before I go home. Really need to consider what to do with this information and decide how/if I should respond.
