It’s been ten years since Pitch Black had been defeated by The Guardians; ten years of peace and prosperity between all of the mythological realms. Fear giving way to happiness that gave way to vulnerability.

The Man in the Moon didn’t falter in his observations— keenly aware that it was only a matter of time— but not even he could anticipate what was about to befall his beloved Guardians.

Will the newest Guardian be able to remind them why they were chosen? Remind them that the light will always defeat the dark? Or is it already too late?

Jack Frost [M]

The most recent addition to The Guardians before you came along. Jack Frost is known far and wide for his laid back disposition, and his tendency to have as much fun as he can, but when push comes to shove he’d do anything to protect the people he cares for.

Appearance: Jack stands at around 6’0” with glacier blue eyes and snow white hair. His fair skin stands out against the blue hoodie that he’s commonly seen in; his trusty staff never far from his person. He always has a playful smile curling his lips. (He has a lithe physique.)

Nicholas Claus [M]

An intimidating man by all appearance, Nicholas is definitely a man that you’d assume would sooner use his fists than talk. However, he’s an overgrown puppy that absolutely adores to help people whenever he can. Just don’t get him angry— or be on his naughty list— and everything will be okay.

Appearance: Nicholas stands at around 7’2” with piercing green eyes and dark auburn hair. His tanned skin is accentuated by the various tattoos easily noticeable across his body. The hulking mass of his body hidden behind simple shirts and pants with his trusty black boots to finish the look.

Toothiana [F]

A gentle entity, Toothiana— or simply Tooth— is a sporadic woman by nature, always shifting around, but she’s always dependable whenever you need her. With an open fascination with well looked after teeth— something you’ll have to get used to— Tooth makes sure you know that you can always count on her; even if she gets distracted easily.

Appearance: Tooth stands at around 5’2” when she isn’t hovering around. Her naturally dark brown hair, when she’s shifted from her scaled appearance, falls to the middle of her back. Bronze skin causing her golden-emerald eyes to stand out that much more.

Seraphina [F]

One of your closest advisors, and friends, Seraphina makes your job that much easier whenever Valentine’s Day rolls around. Her attention to detail and quick wit making everything much smoother. Even if she’s a little rough around the edges, mainly when it comes to other people, you couldn’t imagine having anyone else by your side.

Appearance: Seraphina stands at around 5’6” with dark brown eyes and onyx black hair. Medium brown skin being accentuated by the pearly white apparel that’s common among the individuals within your employ. Her slender, almost delicate, body hiding a hidden strength.

Pitch Black [M/F]

One of the greatest nightmare the world had never seen; The Boogeyman in the flesh. Pitch Black had been nothing but a whispered rumor for years before their return. You don’t know what caused their disassociation with The Man in the Moon, but it’s clearly left a permanent scar. Will you be able to show the embodiment of darkness that love isn’t impossible for them?

Appearance: Pitch stands at around 6’2” with sapphire blue eyes, with specks of gold, and raven black hair. Pallid skin, that almost has a grey hue to it, stands out against the dark clothes— and the shadows— that they’re commonly seen in. Their lithe body has a muscular quality to it.

Today’s the day!! Thank you all for your patience. I’m beyond excited to share the first demo of No Haven in Hallow Cove!

Please keep in mind that this is very much still a first draft, and subject to change. I welcome and appreciate any feedback you can offer. Currently I have two options for feedback: comments on the itchio page and messages here.  I can’t promise that suggestions will be implemented but I can promise that they will be read, appreciated, and considered. If you see any coding issues like bugs or inconsistencies, please either screenshot or send me the direct text so I can fix it.

The romance system in particular I would love feedback on. Romance styles are so unique to the individual, and I want to make sure I’m incorporating other peoples experiences as well as my own. If there are dialogue options you would have wanted, changes in inner thoughts, alternatives to the current romance options, please let me know! Thank you in advance.

Also, this book features many adult themes and content that may be disturbing or triggering. The stories, myths, and legends hanging over you like an ever-present cloud— whether they were based on fact or not didn’t matter— as the centuries passed you by. Empires rising and falling like the evening tide before your eyes.

You don’t know the exact event that caused your long rest— you didn’t truly need to— but the boredom that the mortal world brought weighed on your shoulders like the heaviest of objects.

So, you closed your eyes and drifted away; allowing your body to lull itself into a false sense of serenity.

You just weren’t expecting the next time you opened them that you’d be in an entirely foreign place; new smells assaulting your senses that you’ve never encountered before.

All but one that is…

Blood.

However, when you went to investigate— trying to ignore the strangeness of your surroundings— you’re assaulted by a scene you weren’t expecting; a mutilated corpse lay mere feet from you, that didn’t truly phase you, but the odd object pointed directly at your chest and the shout of ‘police’ was certainly quite peculiar.

Flynn/Felicity Palmer - The Doctor

You don’t think you’ve ever seen a mortal so obsessed with death before— the good doctor notwithstanding— and you especially weren’t expecting the clinical way in which they operated. They remind you of a turtle with how quickly they retreat back into their shell.

The one in charge of the exhibit that you had woken up in; an individual that seems fascinated with the tales that you tell about your past. Even if they don’t truly believe you’re telling the truth the honest inquires and open questions give you a semblance of an idea that they wish to believe; the pursuit of knowledge is never truly over after all.

Adrian/Ariana Shaw - The Neighbor

Upon moving into your new apartment— a bit of a downgrade from your castle— they’ve been a constant source of help whenever you can’t quite figure out how a new appliance works. With a cheerful disposition, horrible puns, and an all around helpful attitude, you knew that you’d be seeing a lot more of them. Maybe it’ll turn into something more?

Damon/Diana Walker - The Old Friend

32 [6’5” | Steel Blue Eyes | Raven Black Hair]

Someone you haven’t seen in quite some time. Who’s seemed to finally come into their own; from someone who used to trip over their words to a flirtatious heartbreaker. You can’t help but notice, however, whenever you get near they seem to stumble back into their old role. Their words coming out with less suaveness and more quite nerves; you haven’t the slightest inclination why but maybe you’ll figure it out as you get to know them once more.

The One who Cried Wolf is an interactive fiction game inspired by supernatural shows, such as Teen Wolf and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Twilight and the Vampire Diaries. You play as a college student living in the fictional town of Hidden Oaks. On a school night your best friend convinces you to follow them to the woods in search of their missing sister Sasha. The next day you end up waking up in a hospital bed only to find out you've turned into a werewolf after being bitten by the alpha wolf that was chasing after you in the woods. You are thrown into the world of the supernatural and as such you must balance your university and personal life, all the whilst navigating and adjusting to your newfound life as a werewolf.

They have been with you through thick and thin, and the most loyal friend you could have ever asked for who would do absolutely anything to protect you and keep you safe. Eager to follow in their mother's footsteps B is a criminology major with a huge knack for mysteries. They are quick-witted, sarcastic and likes to think that they're absolutely hilarious.

Caoilainn O'Reardon || Species: Banshee || NB

Caoilainn is the mayor's youngest child as well as your roommate. Although they have recently estranged themselves from their parents, due to their father's current position they are one of the most popular people in University. They study the same major as you and is fed up of people's bullshit, including your own and don't want anything to do with you or any of the supernatural world for that matter. They are cold and withdrawn, but also very creative and hopes to one day find themselves within their own individuality.

Perth/Prim Sisuwan || Species: Vampire || M/F

P is your old childhood rival; the both of you went to the same middle school and high school together. They left to attend the second half of high school in Chiang Miai and you haven't seen them ever since. They're now attending the same university as you as an international relations major with a minor in whatever course that you choose to study. You've noticed that they haven't lost their competitive streak or their cocky arrogance, but something about them feels different.

Amari Müler-Vosbein || Species: Human || NB

Amari is the new person in town. Rumour has it that xir parents are weapon specialists that work for the HOPD, but no one really knows or has dared to ask. Xe is in the year above you and has transferred from xir home university in the Netherlands to xir second year as a teaching major with a minor in educational psychology at your university. Xe is a genuinely kind person whose charm and charisma draws those around xem like a moth to a flame.

Malakai/Morgan Lavigne || Species: Werewolf || M/F

M is the owner of a local downtown family-owned café . They went to the same high school as you but decided to drop out shortly after the death of their parents. They now run their family's cafe along with their grandmother. They are easygoing and highly flirtatious, however those stormy eyes of theirs hold secrets beyond your wildest imagination.

It was a tale as old as time within the small town of Serenity Falls. To some the myths told of people that inhabited the seas— mermaids to most— that helped create Serenity Falls. To others, however, the myths speak of horrible beasts that crawled out from the very depths of hell; with a call that only the dead would be able to resist.

Many have heard the tales— and many have rolled their eyes at them— but when a stranger washes up on the shore of the small town with a much bigger history? Maybe those legends were filled with kernels of truth after all.

Unfortunately you wouldn’t be able to help; as you don’t remember how you even got to Serenity Falls in the first place. All you have are the flashes of memories when you dream, the faint pang in your heart every time you look out into the bay, and the faint echo of your name being whispered in the wind.

You get the feeling that they’d do absolutely anything for you but you don’t remember why.

“I have stayed by your side for you entire life— through your ridiculous adventures— and I know that I’ll stay by your side for the rest of it. I’d do anything to protect you, your highness. Not just because you’re my best friend. You’ve always been so much more.”

-The “Bad” Seed-

Whispered words is all you hear about them at first; that they were no good, that they ran with the wrong crowd. Upon meeting them? You couldn’t quite connect the soulful hazel eyes, standing on the other side of the diners counter, with the person those words have been connected to. Much more seems to hide underneath the steely facade that they put up. Maybe you’ll be the one to slip behind that wall and find the person hidden beneath.

“I still don’t know why you care so much. No one ever sticks around for long so I don’t expect you to either. I just hope you know that I’m glad you’ve stuck around. I’ve never truly had a friend like you. Now don’t tell anyone I’m getting this mushy on you or I might have to kick your ass, okay?”

Caspian/Cassidy Vega, 27 (M/F)

-The Scientist-

A person with as much passion for the sea, and the life living within it, as you’ve ever seen. For all the knowledge that spews from their mouth they seemingly grow bashful to every other form of conversation, but they’re endlessly fascinated by you. By the possibility that the old fables their parents told them at night could possibly be true. Maybe you’ll discover more about them as they help you discover more about yourself.

“The sea has always called to me. Rolling tides, whistling winds, pristine blues, have always been heaven on earth to me. I’ve never known exactly why I’ve always loved the sea but maybe it was to get me prepared for you? Maybe I love the sea so much because I was always supposed to love you.”

-The Enigma-

You aren’t the only new resident to Serenity Falls. You’ve only been able to catch glimpses of the elusive individual but their ice blue eyes, peering over darkened shades, seem to enrapture you; while also reminding you of a vague memory that has entered your dreams more than once. You don’t know why you feel like you already know this person but you’re definitely intrigued by them; their cool smile, collected demeanor, and flirty words included.

“Cat got your tongue, sweet thing? I hope you won’t be silent all night. It’ll get quite boring hearing me yammer on, don’t you think? Hmm.. no matter, I suppose there’s always other activities we could divulge in, don’t you agree?”

You had only heard stories about the fabled assault on the Silver City; an assault that had been carried out by one of the most trusted Archangels. One that had been ended after years of battle— of bloodshed— and ended in the banishment of all those that supported the usurper. You never imagined that you’d ever come face-to-face with the very being that caused it all.

That is until you’re given a task that not many had been given before…

Travel down to the land of humans— Earth— and wrangle in the aforementioned individual; a task that was passed down to you from the very siblings that had been betrayed.

You just weren’t expecting all the issues that would arise because of this task. With what the human world had to offer you when in comparison to the Silver City.

You also weren’t expecting to be pulled into a conspiracy, a criminal investigation, and the issues that humans seem to face everyday.

The Devil

Lucifer Morningstar is one of the hottest names in Los Angeles. The influence they have over the city being undeniable— even if you’ve never stepped foot in it before— and you can understand why upon stepping into their night club. Sharp blue eyes, ethereal blonde hair, and lightly tanned skin screams of divinity. If it wasn’t for the flash of red you could see lurking within the crystal depths of their eyes; showcasing what they truly were beneath their flirtatious smile, quick wit, and charm. Fallen.

“You’re quite miraculous, darling, I’ve been able to see peoples desires— their innermost machinations— but I’ve never felt such things before. As I’ve always been one to take what I want but I desire you in all the best ways. And I’ll take my time to show you that.”

The Angel

The one that gave you the job to begin with; Gabriel is unlike their siblings. In that their joyous smile never waned when looking at someone outside of the Archangel members. Bright green eyes, raven black hair, and fair skin pull everyone’s attention towards them but they’ve always seemed to have a special interest in you. Their warmest smile, silliest jokes, and loudest laughs all directed towards you. You’ve just never understood why. Until now.

“I’ve always known that you were special. That you would either destroy or rebuild me. I don’t even know how long you’ve held my heart, dearest one, but I hope you know that it’ll always be yours.”

The Demon

One of the only people you’ve seen that Lucifer actually seems to tolerate. Syrus/Selene Palmer doesn’t take shit from anyone and would sooner throw a knife at Lucifer than listen to them yammer on. The sharpness within their grey eyes— their dark brown hair always pulled from their face— highlights the bronze tone of their skin. The no nonsense attitude fading just a little the longer they spend with you.

“I was one of the people that was tasked with torturing souls— it was a job that I reveled in— but it’s one that you can grow tired of. I’ve known pain, and I’m old friends with suffering, but you make all of that a bit easier to handle. You make me want to be better.”

The Detective

They didn’t ask to be pulled into celestial nonsense— not that they were fully aware— but Lucifer wouldn’t take no for an answer. So, unfortunately for them, they were tasked with helping you both. You couldn’t say you were exactly unhappy with the turn of events; Detective Cole/Cora Pierce being one of the most highly regarded officers within the LAPD. Intelligent hazel eyes, going well with the medium brown tone of their skin, always surveying the area. Ebony curls falling over their eyes as they force themselves not to roll them as Lucifer speaks. (Has a son named Theodore.)

“Where have you been all my life? I’ve been looking for you in every person that I’ve dated and never found you. It’s like you fell from the stars and ended up in my lap. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have you.”

The Doctor

The soft spoken, yet kindhearted, medical examiner for the LAPD. Doctor Nathan/Natasha Grey aren’t exactly what you’re expecting when stepping foot into the morgue for the first time, but you can’t say it’s all that bad. Light brown eyes, that sparkle with flecks of gold, allows their dark auburn hair to stand out. Olive toned skin shimmering gently underneath the lights. A timid, yet warm, smile quirking their lips.

“People scare me. I’m not used to speaking to them, being near them, which is why I stay down here. I don’t know how to interact with people that well but you make it easier. You’ve always made it easier.”

“So…

It’s a cult?”

Devil of a Time is a low fantasy Lovecraftian interactive fiction. You play as a well respected official in your not-a-cult charged with protecting the younger members all while completing your final year of your university degree.

Let’s just hope that no secrets stray to further ears.
