tw// eating disorders
I don't normally talk about this but I kind of wanted to address it because I know it doesn't just happen to a few people.. during the time I was at my worst (regarding my ED), people would tell me that I 'looked amazing' and that I 'looked really healthy' when that was anything but the case. I wasn't eating and if I did eat anything it wouldn't stay down.
Telling someone they look good just because they lost weight isn't always a kind thing to say. In fact, people telling me that made my mental health and, by extension, my ED worse. I thought that if I looked good to other people then I would be happy. That was not by any means the case and I ended up being far more unhappy because of it.
The worst part is that it still affects me now. Every time I eat I feel guilty and sick. I feel like I'm going to throw up and if I'm over a certain weight I try to lose weight until I'm below it.
Eating disorders aren't beautiful. They shouldn't be romanticized. It's not something to show off or make fun of/ joke about. They aren't easy to recover from and if you do recover, it's easy to fall back into them. That said, never shame someone for having an ED. That can make it worse as well.
Basically, go by the rule 'if they didn't choose it when getting ready for the day, don't comment on it' (which is kind of a mouthful but whatever). People chose their hair, makeup, clothes, etc. Not their bodies. I hope that makes sense lol but yeah..

Last Week Tonight s02e19
The family of Breonna Taylor is still facing charges for a “popup protest” on July 12th. Breonna’s family, including her mother, was gathered for a family BBQ in Grand Rapids and went downtown to Rosa Parks circle, where they are trying to name a street after Breonna as a memorial. All they wanted to do was show her mom the street that was going to be named after her daughter.
The police heard the family was going downtown and created a road block, claiming it was a “popup protest” and that the family was “inciting violence” by simply EXISTING downtown. Here is what one of Breonna’s cousins had to say in a Facebook post:
As of July 25th, charges have NOT been dropped. That’s right. GRPD is pressing charges against the family they attacked. In the Facebook post you can see officers pushing them down, yanking them out of cars, pinning their arms behind their backs. Not a single person in the family had a weapon or was acting violent in ANY WAY. This was a case of pure violence on the police’s part. If anything, the family should be charging THEM for harassment.
Breonna’s family is asking that people continue contacting the city of Grand Rapids and Grand Rapids Police Department.
PLEASE HELP!!!! By contacting GRPD with these demands that have yet to be met:
1. All charges against Breonna Taylor’s family and friends in relation to the events of July 12th be dropped
2. A full internal investigation conducted as to the use of excessive for and unprofessional language by officers on July 12th
3. Both involved supervisors (Sergeants) be put on leave effective immediately pending investigation.
You can email GRPD at grpdinfo@grcity.us or send them a message on Facebook. The physical address for snail mail is:
Grand Rapids Police Department Headquarters
1 Monroe Center NW
Grand Rapids, MI 49503
