ngl i kinda wanna post my ocs here and yes i got this idea after finishing yet another interactive fiction game specifically buried love by @buriedlove. i'm a massive simp for alex tbh but i'm sure as hell gonna try aayush and maybe eli. anyways i have like two different ocs for buried love and my dumbass wants to make another one like girl what 😂. i also would love to post edits of my ocs here too but i unfortunately haven't tried editing anything in sooo long

[ a slice-of-life / romance story set within and around the school world ]

SYNOPSIS.

new town and a new job. having just left city life for various reasons and moved to lone pine north, the northern - and smaller - set of twin towns separated by the largest river in the country, you feel ready to start the next chapter of your life.

set during the first year as a teacher at lone pine north elementary, you do your best to settle into your new life and your role as a teacher, balancing private life and education, and solving the drama of young teenagers - and perhaps your own drama as well.

thank you for today is a slice-of-life / romance story that focuses on relationships. while the game has a focus on the romance genre, it is entirely possible to go through the game being just friends with the cast, or entering into queerplatonic relationships with some of them. thank you for today is rated 18+ for strong language and optional sexual content. other content warnings might be added. minors do not interact.

THE CAST.

the teacher. MC. fully customizable. you; the newest addition to the staff at lone pine north elementary and a stranger in your new home town. your everyday life is filled with social interactions, but will you manage to build any real and lasting relationships with your students, coworkers and new neighbours?

the PE teacher. STACY YU. 27. gender-selectable [he/him, she/her, xe/xem] when Stacy isn't teaching a class, you will often find xem in the teachers' lounge either talking about various sporting events xe has seen, participated in and or arranged, or gushing about xir daughter, Clara. though divorced, xe has a very good relationship with xir ex-wife, because who could ever hate xem?

the technology teacher. OPAL YONAS. 34. trans female [she/her] high energy and passionate, Opal loves her job as the tech teacher, to the point where she's rarely seen outside her classroom. even in her free time, she spends most of her days upgrading electronics, whether it's her own or someone else's, and she's usually the first stop for half the town when it comes to computer issues.

the student care assistant. SHILOH AMOS. 40. agender [they/them] a calm and quiet presence at the otherwise bustling school, Shiloh seems to walk around with a bubble of comfort surrounding them. though they're loved by everyone, no one seems to know too much about their personal life and they clearly value their privacy.

the janitor. AUGUST/AUGUSTINE VINTER. 36. gender-selectable [he/him, she/her, they/them] though their job title is 'janitor', August/ine is more the school's fix-it-all, taking care of most of the building's maintenance. they come across as slightly unsociable when you first meet them, concentrated on their job rather than getting to know the school's staff, but most people seem to respect their almost single-minded focus.

the convenience store cashier. ENVER HALE. 26. trans male [he/him] the only connection Enver has to the local elementary school is that he used to go there ten years ago. now he works at the local convenience store half his time, before disappearing from the small town the other half, coming and going like the wind, and their mood seems to change just as easily.

the parent. MAX RODRIGUEZ. 42. gender-selectable [he/him, she/her, ze/zir] there are two things you know about Max; ze runs half the town, and ze loves zir twin sons, Felix and Luciano, more than anything else. it's easy to butt heads with zem as ze has an opinion on almost everything and ze doesn't seem to like admitting they were wrong about anything.

unique storylines for each cast member. while every route follows the same basic plotline for mc, each RO (relationship option) has a unique plot and storyline of their own.

choices that matter. make choices that affect the relationships you build with the cast, your students and their future grades, and your position and career as a teacher at the school.

PSA. while i’m perfectly comfortable with anyone that wants to headcanon the cis cast members as trans, DO NOT headcanon or depict my trans characters as cis.

SYNOPSIS // CASE BRIEFING

I assume you remember the extensive effort our best personnel put into neutralising the leader of DODGE, Viktor Madsen, back in 2018. We were successful in our operation and DODGE fell silent: we kept an eye on them and heard nothing, assumed they had disbanded. Just a week ago, our cybersecurity professionals started reporting strange activity throughout the city: data leaks, an influx of online propaganda, dark web trades almost tripling in a week- it has DODGE written all over it. We already have professionals working to disarm any cyberterrorism threats they send our way, dealing with DODGE as a group is manageable, its the mastermind behind it all that we must neutralise: that is where you will come in. 

On Wednesday night, Viola Springs police officers brought in a young woman by the name of Lola Raith. Miss Raith was arrested for aggravated assault, but our attention is on the DODGE branding she has on the back of her neck. We confiscated her mobile phone and personal laptop and have found condemning information about DODGE that is concerning at the least. From what we have gathered, DODGE has been taken over by someone going by ‘Echo’. Echo has instigated a new regime to DODGE, planning on dividing their efforts between cyberterrorism and drug distribution. They have been advertising a new age in their outstanding propaganda: ‘The Soul Harvest’.  This ‘Echo’ individual has made formal threats to those holding Raith in custody, promising ‘catastophic resistance’ if she were to be charged. This leads us to believe Miss Raith is someone that Echo holds close: you are going to take advantage of that. 

Currently, we have no information on this new drug being pushed by DODGE, and it may be dangerous. This, alongside your close proximity to DODGE members on this operation, is why I have assigned you a small team that you will be working with to take Echo, and the whole of DODGE, down. Good luck. 

THE ROMANCEABLE CAST // PERSONAL FILES

ECHO: the mastermind. [M]

Unfortunately, all we know about Echo is what we have gotten out of Miss Raith so far. She has let slip that he is male, and an indirect heir to DODGE, once working below Viktor Madsen: the depth of their relationship is unknown. The small amount of communication we have had with Echo has told us he is dangerous and willing to take action against us. He used to write political thesis’ under the username “ECHO_CHAMBER” , but any connections to his old doings have been fried. He seems to hold Miss Raith close in relationship, whether they are romantically involved or not is unknown- we have confirmed that they are not related in any way. The last known online appearance he has made was two weeks ago, where he distributed a string of propaganda idolising “THE SOUL HARVEST” which we think is the first step in his new drug push. He made direct contact with us via an untraceable phone call on Thursday demanding we free Raith from custody, otherwise we will face ‘catastrophic resistance’ from him and his respective peoples. You are to stop at no ends to find this man and bring him back to us: dead or alive. 

LOLA RAITH: the devout follower. [F]

Miss Lola Raith was arrested after assaulting a known drug dealer on the outskirts of town. When police arrived to the scene, responding to a witnesses call, Lola was still assaulting the man, who is recovering in hospital for the time being. Talking to him may give you an idea of what happened. Raith has faced questioning these last few days, and has shown to run her mouth just a bit too much. Slowly but surely we are straining information out of her, she has refused the counsel of a lawyer, which is strange in itself. Lola’s computer was searched, and encrypted chatlogs were found where she talks to multiple other people about “getting excited for the new drop” and arranging multiple get-togethers which we are monitoring closely. Lola being taken into custody has been a silent matter, so how DODGE knows about her arrest is unknown so far. You and your partner are going to take charge of interrogations from now on. A dossier of information will be on your desk tomorrow, I advise you read through it and learn her mannerisms before talking to her. She is your first step to dismantling DODGE. 

TOBY KLEIN: the communications expert. [M]

I understand that you and Toby have worked well together in the past, I even remember him referring to you as his ‘best friend’ so I am putting you two on the same team in the hopes that your chemistry will boost our findings. He will act as communications expert: guiding you on operations and finding out what he can about the cyberterrorism aspect of Echoes operations: you and your partner will be working in tandem with Toby, but be focusing on his drug push. Toby will not be working in the field with you and your partner: he is to stay off the grid at all times. Klein has proven to be competent in his communications, although sometimes he exhibits childish behaviours and unfocused characteristics: please keep him on track. This is a serious operation that could harm many, I do not need the terrible two fucking things up. 

ALEXIS HAYES: your partner. [F]

I understand that you and Detective Hayes have formed some sort of rivalry over the years working for us: I wouldn’t put the two of you together under any other circumstances, but the two of you are my most competent detectives and I will not tolerate any dispute between the two of you. Detective Hayes will act in equal to you, her strong personality and ability to make people talk will aid you in interrogations: she is self-sufficient and hates DODGE almost as much as I do. She was also playing a minor role in the takedown of Viktor Madsen, so her knowledge of DODGE is advanced. Along with that, she has served on the DEA as a special agent, and her knowledge on streetworks and current drug circulations is crucial to this operation. Play nicely. 

SAILOR ANG: the undercover design ops. [NB]

Mx Ang is going to be the backbone to your undercover endeavours. They are a skilled makeup and SFX artist, alongside a textiles genius and the storyteller of a lifetime. Any new personalities you may need to don will be given to you by Sailor: they will also train you with new accents and increase your recall in order to remember specific details about your new personalities. Mx Ang is the only person outside of the force that can know about this operation: they are being compensated very kindly for their silence and will be available at any time necessary in return. Mx Ang is a sweet person, but don’t be fooled: getting on their bad side is a death sentence for yourself, and we need you alive. 

FEATURES 

This operation is going to be tedious. You’re going to perform interrogations, go undercover alongside your partner and try get in with DODGE. Attend parties for information, choose who you’re inviting home for the night and even pursue romantic relationships with the cast. Don’t get distracted, though: you have an evil mastermind to catch. Just don’t fall in love with him, that would be detrimental to this case…

—Make choices that will impact the ending you get (there are a few!).

—Learn more about DODGE, and their new leader, Echo. Decide for yourself whether they’re really as bad as the force thinks: maybe their agenda is the one to push?

—Play as your truest self: customise your appearance, personality, gender, preferred pronouns and sexuality! Inclusive customisation options are also here, depict whether your MC is trans, or if they wear a hijab or experience body dysphoria/dysmorphia. 

—Decide your approach when it comes to questioning suspects and confronting DODGE yourself: are you going to play bad cop, good cop or convert to DODGE’s ranks altogether? 

FINAL WARNINGS: 

The Soul Harvest is a story that contains strong depictions of drug use, violence and sexual themes (although skippable) strong and upsetting language is also prevalent in this story, and I advise you to read at your own discretion. 

Due to the optional sexual endeavours portrayed in this IF, it has been rated at 18+.

WHERES OUR STEAMY ROMANCE?!?!???—

It is here, my darling dearest. The SATYA Society is rated 17+ for skippable suggestive/sexual scenes later on when everyone is of age. In the free version, you have 2 main romances you can pursue, one male and one female. With the paid version, your romantic interests jump from 2 to 7, with 2 polyamorous routes available within the cast. No romance paths are gender-locked, but some RO’s do have preferences, and will be easier to romance as certain genders. You can set how comfortable you are with physical affection, as well, which will stop/encourage characters to hug, kiss you etc.

HOW CUSTOMISABLE ARE WE?—

I’m gonna be honest, I was definitely thinking of gender-locking your character to make things (a lot) easier for me, and I’m still considering it. But for now, your name, gender and sexuality are completely customisable. You can customise your appearance, personality and even personalise your background before coming to Stonewell Academy. Your family is prewritten and can’t be changed, but you can decide your relationship with them, alongside everyone at the school. My goal with this book was to give y’all great replay value, and I believe I’ve done just that. You can experience two completely different stories with each play through.

HOW MUCH HAVE YOU EVEN DONE, YOU SEEM LIKE A DISORGANISED PRICK—

First of all, that’s rude. But I’ve almost finished writing everything. My next step after finishing the writing is to get the cast drawn (I’m adept in my art but honestly if I can afford it I’ll commission someone), get the story coded and put it all together to release. Isaac Spence is your main male romance option. He is the glistening sun, as some would say— bright and gorgeous, tall and warm. Isaac is your typical boy-next-door, always on his best behaviour, kind and welcoming towards most, it makes you wonder what he did to get himself sent out to a reform school. If you play as a male, Isaac will be your roommate! In the first act, and half of the second act, Isaac is dating Courtney Knight, who just so happens to be your other main romance option… 👀

Courtney Knight is not the girl next door. She is an aspiring clothing designer who is just about as entitled as they come. She manages to keep a close group of friends, however, so there must be more to her than just a catty somebody. Courtney expresses her love teasingly, rather than warmly like Isaac. (Maybe that’s why they don’t work out, haha). She is strong willed and very much an independent woman— sure, it takes a while to gain her trust, but you might have a valuable relationship with Courtney if you try hard enough. If you play as a female, Courtney is your roommate! In the first act, and half of the second act, she is dating Isaac Spence.

PAID VERSION:

Mary DeSmidt is quiet and inconsolable. Rumours float around the school about how such a sweet girl could get sent to the strictest standing reform school. She is the embodiment of kindness, and always willing to lend a helping hand to you. Mary is driven by emotions, and needs a bit more time than others to handle to growing change of life at a boarding school. She also takes a little more guidance when it comes to feelings, and has a more complex romance path than the others.

Harper Vale is… a mayfly. He knows everything about everyone, floats between all the social groups at Stonewell Academy and still somehow doesn’t have a best friend. Courtney tells you he is a compulsive liar, and is trying to ‘manipulate the faculty out of a full ride at Stonewell’, which explains the perfect grades and attendance rates… Harpers romance path is…shaky, to put it nicely.

Coen Day is hard to get to know. They’re always going off on their own, disappearing in the middle of class, not returning until night. Apparently their attendance rates are in the red, but Coen has always been known to run. Coen is quiet, sure, but they’re also loyal and smart. They would never share a secret of yours, or undermine your experiences and aspirations. Befriending Coen is a feat in itself, but one worth doing— Coen is the type of friend one needs at Stonewell. Coen is also asexual.

Priya Hammond is a burning fire, scorching everything in her path. She is loud, capable and Courtney’s all time best friend. Priya has been sent to detention for questioning a teacher’s moral standpoint more times than once, and is very politically inclined. She is truly gifted with her brains, but would much rather search the depths of the internet for trivial facts about a small town in Europe than study for school a moment longer than she has to. Bring up any topic around her, she will know something about it.

Laiken Allard-Rose arrives in the second act, and is Isaac’s childhood best friend. He is energy personified, always looking for an adventure to drag you along or a joke to crack at just the wrong time. Nothing is too daring for Laiken, and you’ll find that forming a friendship with him definitely includes him arriving at your window in the middle of the night to go on an adventure (raiding the school kitchens). Family is the most important thing to Laiken, and will do anything for you once you’re considered his family, whether romantically or platonically. ( i would play his romance route just to experience the dates he would take you on lol)

Laiken & Isaac. Who knew the childhood best friends that may have had heavy crushes on each other growing up would end up romantically inclined… dates with these two are a festival of laughter and love. Isaacs warm presence and Laikens exciting romantic inclination is the perfect combination, and I’m sure the boys could show enough love to you for a lifetime more.

Priya & Coen. These personalities somehow work perfectly when it comes to love. Priya and Coen can be romanced together to create the ultimate game night team… their smarts, Priya’s competitive nature and Coen’s strategical thinking?? Automatic win.

Jack Frost [M]

The most recent addition to The Guardians before you came along. Jack Frost is known far and wide for his laid back disposition, and his tendency to have as much fun as he can, but when push comes to shove he’d do anything to protect the people he cares for.

Appearance: Jack stands at around 6’0” with glacier blue eyes and snow white hair. His fair skin stands out against the blue hoodie that he’s commonly seen in; his trusty staff never far from his person. He always has a playful smile curling his lips. (He has a lithe physique.)

Nicholas Claus [M]

An intimidating man by all appearance, Nicholas is definitely a man that you’d assume would sooner use his fists than talk. However, he’s an overgrown puppy that absolutely adores to help people whenever he can. Just don’t get him angry— or be on his naughty list— and everything will be okay.

Appearance: Nicholas stands at around 7’2” with piercing green eyes and dark auburn hair. His tanned skin is accentuated by the various tattoos easily noticeable across his body. The hulking mass of his body hidden behind simple shirts and pants with his trusty black boots to finish the look.

Toothiana [F]

A gentle entity, Toothiana— or simply Tooth— is a sporadic woman by nature, always shifting around, but she’s always dependable whenever you need her. With an open fascination with well looked after teeth— something you’ll have to get used to— Tooth makes sure you know that you can always count on her; even if she gets distracted easily.

Appearance: Tooth stands at around 5’2” when she isn’t hovering around. Her naturally dark brown hair, when she’s shifted from her scaled appearance, falls to the middle of her back. Bronze skin causing her golden-emerald eyes to stand out that much more.

Seraphina [F]

One of your closest advisors, and friends, Seraphina makes your job that much easier whenever Valentine’s Day rolls around. Her attention to detail and quick wit making everything much smoother. Even if she’s a little rough around the edges, mainly when it comes to other people, you couldn’t imagine having anyone else by your side.

Appearance: Seraphina stands at around 5’6” with dark brown eyes and onyx black hair. Medium brown skin being accentuated by the pearly white apparel that’s common among the individuals within your employ. Her slender, almost delicate, body hiding a hidden strength.

Pitch Black [M/F]

One of the greatest nightmare the world had never seen; The Boogeyman in the flesh. Pitch Black had been nothing but a whispered rumor for years before their return. You don’t know what caused their disassociation with The Man in the Moon, but it’s clearly left a permanent scar. Will you be able to show the embodiment of darkness that love isn’t impossible for them?

Appearance: Pitch stands at around 6’2” with sapphire blue eyes, with specks of gold, and raven black hair. Pallid skin, that almost has a grey hue to it, stands out against the dark clothes— and the shadows— that they’re commonly seen in. Their lithe body has a muscular quality to it.

"Horror gripped breath and blood red maw, they left you for your grave and yet here you stand in mock and mirthless jest with revenge in hand. History will be repeated, but not as they planned. An eye for an eye the crows laugh."

THE RISING NIGHT is a gothic dark fantasy with elements of psychological thriller, horror, political intrigue, romance and mystery. This book is intended for an audience that is 18+; MINORS PLEASE DO NOT INTERACT. The intended themes for this story can be triggering such as graphic acts of violence, gore, strong language, body mutilation, religious elements and sexual(non-explicit) content; it will also include themes of mental and physical harm done to and by the reader based on choices in the book and heavy mentions and elements that touch on mental illnesses and suicidal/intrusive thoughts. ALL OF WHICH will be tagged and listed with each chapter alongside any chapter specific triggers. Do not read if you are not comfortable or are triggered by these topics, please take a moment between each chapter if you continue to read to take a step away and take care of yourself before continuing to read if you feel like it is becoming difficult, only continue to do so when you are mentally aware and prepared for your own safety to continue or stop completely. Also note that that The Rising Night is in its early stages of writing, meaning there will most likely be subjects of change as it continues including what could be triggering. Gahliarch is not kind to those with magick. Breaking from a treaty made hundreds of years ago, they have returned to their dark roots and have begun purging their lands of magai once more. Where the nations of Syrel'Court and Heimshall believe that magick was given as a holy connection to their god creator Eddath, Gahliarch believes it a curse meant to be snuffed out; and themselves the divine judge, jury and executioner to do so.

You know of these executors first hand, born with magick and taken into captivity by the Gahliarchen nobility's personal bloodhounds, the Lumniscen Order. Like poignant cloying shadows they came after you and others of your kind as you had tried to cross the sea into the magai harboring lands of Heimshall and left you a vengeful husk upon your escape from them.

Now you hunt them in return for the pain they inflict. A vendetta through years of hardship and dedication to your craft, you have become the same nightmare they invoked on your kind. An assassin taking down the inner workings of Gahliarch’s most corrupt factions in turn for their grotesque genocide.

But there is news of war on the horizon. The nations of Gahliarch, Syrel'Court and Heimshall all meant to be governed by mutual interest and bond of The Seven Circle Court is being broken apart from the inside by quickly silenced rumors and faceless ploys, but this political turmoil might just be what you need to finally infiltrate and be done with the Lumniscen Order once and for all; to burn them from their rotting inside out.

Character Customization

Customize your character's hair, clothing style, eye color, height as well as choices that help shape your character interactions throughout the story such as disabilities, scars and personal background that will uniquely create your MC to you.

Choose your character's gender and pronouns which will unlock and effect certain pieces of dialogue and possible choices throughout the story.

Choose your magick class, fighting style and strengths and weaknesses which effect ways the story is told and paths you can take throughout- and whether you fail or triumph against certain enemies.

Decide your character's sexuality, including options for asexual or entirely aromantic routes which are reflected in the story with no loss in content. Just as much can become of a friendship as a romance.

Be a part of the making of history and how it comes about for better or worse. Choose to believe in a destiny set before you or forge your own path in discovery through politics, religion and battle with different choices of a wide range of personality choices.

Story Decisions

Make choices to learn about different lands and their politics, scandals, plots and systems to gain a upper hand against your enemies or potentially trade that knowledge for other advantages.

Decide whether you want to pursue friendships, rivalries or make enemies with a wide range of characters in the story including RO's and can dynamically change how certain people interact with you in the future.

Make important decisions in the plot that you have to weigh the pro's and con's of in a morally gray world where you don't know what your choice will effect later on down the line.

Unlock different tactics, methods and even titles based on your choices to create a unique moniker that will go down in history with you, or forego the notoriety to simply become a movement from the shadow society has come to fear.

Companions

An LGBTQIA+ inclusive cast set between RO's and characters that you will meet in story.

Six RO options available. Two of them being gender selectable between male or female and while the rest of the cast do have set genders and pronouns they are still diverse to give several different options such as one genderfluid, one male, one female and one non-binary RO.

Romance any RO no matter you or your RO's gender is with specific changes such as new comments and situations based on your dynamic together.

Unique changes to you and your companions relationship based on your in plot choices. Make the decision to build rapport with others in mutual decisions or decide to exclude them from scenarios entirely.

Unique races create new chances for delving into the history of your companions and their heritage and just how it could benefit you and your quest. *Learn more about each of the races here(will update when I have the post finished for it sorry)

RO's

Enoc Castellon Male An information broker notorious in Gahliarch as the best of the best. Very little gets past them and unlike others in the business of information, he is not afraid of getting hands on with his work unlike some others who prefer slinking about in the shadow waiting for bits of rumor or documents to make their way to them. You are lucky to call him a friend, possibly the only one you've truly had, but that doesn't mean that you get a pass for your behavior if he see's it as detrimental to your health or safety. Strict but on the edge of parental in their concern, you have come to respect each other despite it being such an unlikely partnership but it is one you've patched into your lifestyle so far you don't know what it would look like without him and how he becomes so much softer and calmer around you. He seems to have just as many secrets and a history riddled with scars as you however, something that brings solace to you both, but there is something else hidden there that Enoc himself is unwilling to say which continues to drive a wedge between your trust.

Wilorin Whitespire Gender Selectable (m/f) A reclusive figure working in the underground of Gahliarch's capital of Montseignant. A doctor by trade and one who used to work as scholar and instructor for medicine as a court physician they are an imposing figure in both appearance and personality, crude and no-nonsense they are the voice of reason in most situations and remain a pessimist despite their urge to do their duty and care for those less fortunate and underprivileged. After an unfortunate turn of events when Wilorin had to flee persecution from the Court after helping a group of magai escape Gahliarch, they had help from an old lover, Koske Ichante, who took them in while in hiding and started a small group together in the underground to continue their work in helping the refugee's find ways out of Gahliarch's failing judicial system. Wilorin's connections are widespread, between a small group of unlawfully discharged soldiers under the command of Koske, a network of the young children of the underground looking for ways to earn food and a place to rest off the street, and Wilorin's reluctant communication with Rowul Wayvir, they are more than well established as the largest faction in the underbelly of Gahliarch.

Rowul Wayvir Gender selectable (m/f) Hailing from one of the most prestigious academies of magick as an ambassador between Syrel'Court and Gahliarch, Rowul is a person of great interest and intrigue in the court, naturally charming and seen as highly gifted. With Gahliarch falling back into a time where it was open to persecute those with magick it makes the job of a magai ambassador dangerous however with secrets around every corner, they never seem to show the pressure getting to them though, leaving every conversation with a graceful and eloquent impact. Witty, sarcastic and yet always with a plan up their sleeve, there is more to them that meets the eye and you come to learn this first hand as they seek you out for a very particular job. They act as if they are an open book but you find yourself truly wondering what just lies beneath the carefully curated façade of nobility they air to the public and what plans they have in store for the ever changing political scene now that war is on the horizon. They have surprising connections, including their own bodyguard and spy Belos, a Tithessian from the Marshes of Phesen and some of the innermost of the underground of Gahliarch's capital making them a formidable enemy and a valuable ally, working their magick from the shadow all while in the spotlight of high society.

Belos Nonbinary A ghost rarely seen. Belos' work as a mercenary was renowned having been adopted into a family who prided themselves in their work as sellswords before mysteriously disappearing from the business. They aren't keen on talking about exactly what happened other then they had to take family matters into their own hands and did some things they were not proud of and became indebted to Rowul Wayvir because of it. They still find value in their skillset as a mercenary, watching everything and leaving no trace behind and when seen their inhuman features leave a particular foreboding unease, but it is often tainted with much darker undertones after having worked as a notorious assassin. There is something predatorial about them in appearance, though those who are fortunate enough to actually get to know them understand that their stoic expressions and silence is simply a comfort to themselves in preferring solitude over having to make small talk or unnecessary conversation. Wickedly smart with keen observational skills, details don't get past them easily and surprisingly for their quiet demeanor they are very emotionally in tune and have given solid advice to those they consider friends. They are loyal to Rowul and therefore loyal to their cause as well and when set on a task Belos makes sure it is completed no matter the cost.

Eowulf Rit Lechlen Female Born to a family once known as nobility in the capital of Gahliarch, Eowulf is the eldest daughter of the Rit Lechlen family who were exiled under false accusations and their title stripped from them. She has been preparing for her revenge for as long as she can remember and while she already has what she needs to incriminate those that already took her families title from them, she now needs a force strong enough to make the Court's Council listen to her claim without facing execution for returning to a land she was exiled from. The Rit Lechlen's have made a name for themselves again over the years on the Island of Rhes as fierce sailors and Eowulf shows it proudly, a strong fighter and leader she wears her families name with pride despite their stained status and laughs in the face of her adversaries for their naivety thinking simple words could make her stop her pursuit for justice. Her moral compass is strongly led by the desire to correct the wrongdoings of the system that has failed others like her and her family and exposing those who leech off of the system for their own benefit. Gahliarch is the perfect place to start this hellbent reckoning.

Sigunn Mlane Genderfluid A quick-witted bard and scholar originally from the smaller city of Cairith in Gahliarch, they later moved to the Island of Rhes as a scribe for the Rit Lechlen family when their studies were finished, becoming friends with the family's eldest child Eowulf Rit Lechlen, even so far as to become her personal bard and follow her in her endeavors to record her history. They are a notable tactician and have studied histories and lores extensively, making them a formidable ally to have in both battlefield and court. Sigunn as most bards tend to be has expressed abilities in political deals and spy work and is known to be a trickster in their own right but loyal to Eowulf and her beliefs of justice even if they are more aloof about it. Being a bard is one of the most honored roles of society, tasked with accurately keeping track of history happening around them, it is seen as one of the highest acts of treason both politically and religiously to temper with historical writings of a bard and they are trained to be be detached and impassive so that they can write everything accurately to what truly happened no matter what light it paints on their patrons or even themselves. While Sigunn is dedicated and passionate about their craft, they are a very personable and emotionally engaged person all while leaving you question if there's anything hidden behind that carefully placed grin.

Additional Characters There is a wide range of characters depicted in The Rising Night that are not just the RO cast that you will get to know and even influence throughout the story itself. These are a few of them that you will get to know alongside many others to come.

Koske Ichante Male Former captain of the guard for Montseignant's elite and a past lover of Wilorin's, they now work as the right hand man to WIlorin's underground faction working against Gahliarch's nobility and political system. The few soldiers that were under his tutelage at the time of his dishonorable discharge from the Court now work as a task force under Koske that sweep the streets and protect those that can't protect themselves and bring back those looking for asylum from persecution. Just as stubborn as Wilorin, Koske and Wilorin deal with each other in a familial bantering manner however they know that they would do most anything for each other.

Beckett Female A street rat that was one of the first that was found and brought in by Wilorin and Koske's refugee asylum, she was quick to bring in the other children of the street until they became a formidable force of thieves and spies that began helping the refugee's by bringing back supplies and news while they stole from high society to survive. Beckett’s trust is hard earned and impossible to win back, they have learned who and what they want in their life early and have no qualms with cutting out what harms them or the others they care for. Making her a devout friend but a dangerous enemy. Beckett is also sarcastic and dry being the ringleader of her little group of thieves certainly made her a little prideful and a tiny bit greedy with a slight superiority complex but she is quick to be put in her place by Wilorin reminding her that she is still a child and can't make demands with a reminder of who makes sure she and her group still have food and shelter for their work.

Jeivanni Male A pirate through and through, his infamy comes from reckless behavior raiding ships coming to and from Gahliarch, outmatching even the best of the naval fleets and racing the sailors of the Island of Rhes in playful competition. Jeivanni is not often one to do things for others, indulging in selfish endeavors as they are known to work with the highest bidder for their time. A natural scallywag and flirt, they have no real honor and are often reprimanded for their short sighted goals and needs. However underneath most of that Jeivanni does have genuine interest in ensuring Gahliarch and its citizens have a better future, not necessarily the Magai but it falls under the same category, but they have never had much opportunity other than pirating off of Gahliarch’s nobility to do anything, so he is interested in helping by being the one to secretly bring Eowulf and Sigunn from the Island of Rhes back into Gahliarch for the start of their revolution. Although he tends to cover that interest in sloughs of self praise and saying he simply “wants to go down in history”.

You were a terrifying demon who wielded hellfire, fought angels, and corrupted souls (or some other shit like that), but that version of you vanished the night you made your deal with Tommy, a nerdy high schooler who was willing to sell his soul if you helped him become "cool."

That should have been easy. Right? Just pop him in front of a box fan for a few minutes, take his soul, and be on your merry way in under half an hour. But, no! That little shit had the nerve to tell you to forget your past and adopt the name Zorlok - the name of the demon his D&D character made a pact with.

So, now you're "Zorlok" and you have no idea who or what the Hell you really are. You know you're a demon, but that's it. You don't know how or why you became a demon, how to use your infernal powers, you aren't even sure how these deals are supposed to work. You tried the fan thing and nothing happened, but maybe there's some trick to stealing souls you haven't figured out yet. Until then, you're gonna have to do this the hard way.

And as if that wasn't enough, since Tommy realized monsters and magic are real too, he somehow got you involved with a mosnter hunter connected to the local Fay Council. Now you're on a team with two random humans protecting the city from feral beasts, investigating strange deaths, and fighting some "great evil." Whatever. It's better than doing Tommy's math homework.

Tommy Osorio

Tommy is the 15 year-old who trapped you in this pact and then forced you to forget your past. You will get his soul if you help him become the coolest kid at his high school, but your starting to wonder if that's an impossible task. Tommy seems to think that becoming popular will make his former best friend, Jin, less embarrassed to hang out with him. It seems like he's just a kid looking for a friend, but that can't be it. The Tommy you see wouldn't have the sense to take away your identity. Either he's putting up a damn good façade or someone else told him what to do.

Tommy is a cisgender male. Your relationship with Tommy can go in several directions including remaining perfectly neutral, caring for and protecting him like a sibling, or seething with hatred and messing with him as much as you can.

Dev (RO)

The de facto leader of your monster hunting trio, Dev's a career criminal who's been entrenched in the supernatural world since xe got involved with a pixie mob over 10 years ago. You've heard that Dev became a member of the LAFC (the Los Angeles Fay Court) but don't know why xe would abandon that life and return to the small town xe grew up in. Maybe it has something to do with the magic eye xe keeps hidden under that eye patch?

Dev is gender selectable and can be cisgender nonbinary (xe/xem), cisgender male (he/him), or cisgender female (she/her). Dev is bisexual, grayromantic, and polyamorous.

E.J. (RO)

Dev's childhood friend, your new roommate, and a reluctant member of your monster hunting team. EJ is a human who was living a completely ordinary life unaware of magic's existence until you showed up at their door. However, strange, unexplained phenomena have plagued EJ for decades and their uncontrolled arcane powers have only grown more volatile since you moved in.

EJ is gender selectable and can be transgender nonbinary (they/them), cisgender male (he/him), or cisgender female (she/her). EJ is bisexual, biromantic, and monoamorous.

Adam / Eve Park (RO)

A talented, young detective who's dedicated to protecting the people of Casper from harm. Like most citizens, Park isn't aware of magic's existence, but they have their suspicions and realize that more's going on here than meets the eye. They also firmly - and somewhat correctly - believe that their former friend turned bitter rival, Dev, is somehow involved with the strange phenomena plaguing the city.

Detective Park is gender selectable and can either be Adam, a transgender man (he/him), or Eve, a transgender woman (she/her). They're demisexual, panromantic, and polyamorous.

Ainsley

The leader of a rival monster hunting team, Ainsley is incredibly well-trained. Like, if you had to guess - which you don't but, you're bored - you'd guess she's ex-military. She also seems very warm and caring and based on the way she looks at you and Ciel, she doesn't seem to hold much prejudice against monstrous beings. All in all, she seems really nice. You're not sure how that makes you feel.

Ainsley is not gender selectable, she is a cisgender female who uses she/her pronouns. She is not romanceable.

Lucía (RO)

A member of the rival monster hunting team, you haven't had much of a chance to interact with Lucía. From what you've heard, you think she's some kind of park ranger, which is impressive considering that the state park which borders Casper is "infested" with monsters. You wonder what kind of things she's seen out there and what keeps bringing her back to the forest.

Lucía is not gender selectable, she is a cisgender female who uses she/her or they/them pronouns. Lucía is homosexual, homoromantic, and monoamorous. She identifies as a lesbian and can only be romanced by female or nonbinary characters.

Ciel (RO)

The final member of the rival monster hunting team, Ciel is an enigma to you - an acerbic, reticent, goth enigma to be exact. At first glance Ciel appears human but when you really look at them you notice their pointed ears, yellow eyes, and short fangs. You aren't sure exactly what Ciel is, but you're 96% sure they're not human.

Ciel's gender can be customized. They are always cisgender nonbinary but can go by she/they or he/they pronouns and be either feminine or masculine in appearance. They're asexual (sex-positive), panromantic, and polyamorous.

There are several other main characters - including three more ROs ("The Celestial", Danny, and Rose) - who I won't discuss in detail at this time due to spoilers.

"The Celestial" is omnigender (ey/em). Ey is aromantic, pansexual, and polyamorous (and had some kind of relationship with Zorlok back when they were The Demon).

Danny is gender selectable - either transgender nonbinary (any but she/he), cisgender male (he/him), or cisgender female (she/her). They are demiromantic, demisexual, and polyamorous.

Rose is a cisgender male (he/him). Rose is homosexual, homoromantic, and monoamorous. He is only romanceable by male or nonbinary characters

The stories, myths, and legends hanging over you like an ever-present cloud— whether they were based on fact or not didn’t matter— as the centuries passed you by. Empires rising and falling like the evening tide before your eyes.

You don’t know the exact event that caused your long rest— you didn’t truly need to— but the boredom that the mortal world brought weighed on your shoulders like the heaviest of objects.
