harry potter, age 11: oh boy! i hope i have fun adventures in the magic world!
harry potter, age 15: time to bring down the fucking government i guess
“What he really wanted was someone like — someone like a parent: an adult wizard whose advice he could ask without feeling stupid, someone who cared about him (…) . And then the solution came to him. It was so simple, and so obvious, that he couldn’t believe it had taken so long — Sirius.” (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire)
“The next time I catch you Regulus, I’ll drag you to Azkaban and hand you in myself.”
People want to complain that Horace Slughorn wasn’t a well written Slytherin, but trashing your house, faking your death and transfiguring yourself into an armchair to avoid an uncomfortable conversation is about as Slytherin as it gets.
While i realize this is not very possible, i just can't shake the idea of feral!regulus and slightlysane!bellatrix going on a horcrux hunt imagine the chaos lmao
the drama 😭😭
Is extremely confusing. Lupin and Snape, in particular, make comments that don’t really make sense, but Jkr seems to have been trying to make their comments as mysterious as possible.
Now, I don’t really remember reading this book for the first time. I read it a very long time ago, if I had to guess after the fourth or fifth book had come out. I don’t think I knew what was happening, but I can’t say for sure. I can only speak in hindsight about the words that are spoken leading up to the reveal of the Mauraders.
Lupin says “Snape’s Grudge”, “these mapmakers would have wanted to lure you out of school. They’d think it extremely entertaining.”
Now, we know the Mauraders had a vicious trick streak and could be very mean with their pranks and jokes. Granted, we only see the worst of it focused on Snape, but I find it difficult to believe anyone could only be that cruel to one person. Maybe Snape got the brunt of it and was a specific target, but I get the idea that the Mauraders didnt often think about the consequences of their actions.
So it is possible Lupin simply thinks that the idea of a boy who was not supposed to go outside the castle doing so would be fun for them, because they simply just liked causing trouble. But the way its phrased, “lure”, makes me feel this doesn’t quite fit the bill. Before I go on to my next theory, I will say that Sirius luring Snape through the willow may be fresh on Lupin’s mind, so perhaps that’s where his choice of words came from.
However, even that I think lends to a different theory, that the strangeness of this comment comes more from Lupin thinking *Sirius* would like to lure Harry straight to him and think it very funny that Harry walked to his own death.
This actually makes a lot of sense on all stages. Lupin wouldn’t want to say only one Maurader would find it amusing, that is more telling than Lupin was trying to be. But he also would use the word lure specifically because of its menacing connotations.
It never actually gets directly explained though, which I think delves into this larger narrative of vague mentions of James and Sirius being terrors and mean without any real evidence that they were anything but. Which maybe they weren’t but they are examples of characters I feel I need a little more of, besides often vague statements about them.
forty seventh prompt:
regulus is sent forward in time, into harry’s fifth year. he’s in his younger 15-year-old body, and the book starts off with him waking up on the knight bus, still holding all his memories.
he attends hogwarts again, with the help of dumbledore telling the teachers to not say anything about him. regulus also gets sorted into slytherin, and is tasked by dumbledore to help with researching the horcruxes.
it’s only when harry struggles with teaching a spell to dumbledore’s army that regulus is approached and asked to co-teach.
some things that could be used:
- regulus uses the room of requirement for a new library with some horcrux books in it. hermione sees him use the wall one time and tries to like interrogate him and he’s like uhm
- he helps the weasleys do a prank at one point and they’re the ones that recommend he can help the army
- harry’s always staring at him cause ‘wow this dude looks so familiar’
- regulus and snape argue in class constantly
- regulus starts teaching harry occlumency
- he’s got tons of scars from the inferni and when umbridge is like “nothings gonna hurt you!” that one time in class everyone just turns and. stares at him
- or, instead of the weasleys recommending him it’s luna cause they’re friends :)
- regulus mothers draco cause he was supposed to be his godfather lmao
- he could run in and save sirius at last minute
- oh yeah he’d need to have a different name as well lmaoo
- honestly should i write this i have so many ideas
harry: i'm just saying
harry: when i finally snap and punch snape or dumbledore
harry: nobody can blame me
Two years ago, I asked people what they would call a group of Boggarts from the Harry Potter series. Two years later, here are all the answers I got!
