“You know, if you spend more time walking around in a specific neighborhood, rather than relying on cars most of the time, you can actually stumble upon some pretty neat finds,” Thomas said, casually showing around a passerby. “Hole-in-the-wall restaurants, neat antique shops, you name it. You’d be surprised what kind of books you’d find in a no-name shop.”
“You’re really speaking my language,” Laurel muffled with a mouth full of soft pretzel. “I never would have seen this pretzel place next to the enchilada place if it wasn’t for you.” It was actually a lie--Laurel had been to that pretzel place plenty of time before this moment but she didn’t want Thomas to feel bad as a tour guide. When she first moved to the city, she explored Portland through every nook and cranny. It was rare that there was a hole-in-the-wall place she didn’t know about. “What about local artists? Are there ways you can stumble upon them by aimlessly wandering?”
She refused to be bored chiefly because she wasn’t boring.

“i have to admit– can’t sit through one long enough to know. however– there was this one movie a long time ago that i watched that was scary; called the notebook.” roman’s face was straight. “i thought that i had to propose to my girlfriend the next day because that was the expectation.”
at least he’s handsome, laurel told herself when she noticeably grimaced at roman’s response. “at least you didn’t follow through with it. take it from me that spontaneous decisions when it comes to marriage should be a no-go.”
i am being dragged into watching a movie and OFF the laptop so i will be gone for a couple hours maybe. please feel free to message me on discord (trixie tang 💋#5650) on here, or like this post and i will come to you!

“I know it’s weird, right? I have no idea why but when I get in a weird place or need to unwind it’s a glass of red wine and a horror film. I mean, if you’re offering you’re in for one hell of a ride.”
“I think probably Scream? Like I said, the camp just gets me. Plus I have no idea what I’d do if I was left with someone possessed by a demon or whatever.”
“I’m offering only on contingency that you pay me every day you release your tensions. I gotta pay my bills, Doc.”
“Then again in Scream you can’t trust anyone because it’s usually the least likely person to be the killer. You’re always on your toes.”
laurel remembered spending a day’s worth of her paycheck just to buy a sturdy and worthy hard hat with a light mount specifically reasoning that it would be absolutely necessary for hers and roman’s cave explorations. they had yet to find any buried treasure but it was more about the moment and experience than the actual discovery. “after all, isn’t what we discover about ourselves at the end what it’s really about?” she murmured to herself. she turned to the doctor with a smirk. “remember, wear your hard hat anywhere but your head.”

“You’re a very strange person, you know that right?” Val said with a smile already forming on the edge of her lips. “Ugh! I don’t know. That one, the one you made me watch last week.” She gestured with her hands. “The one about the teddy bears that get wet and go all psycho killer on the town.”
“You mean Gremlins?!” Laurel threw her head back, laughing at her description of the cult classic. “You mean you don’t want one to take home and feed after midnight? It was either that or Poltergeist but I didn’t feel like ruining your life that night.”

“Alright, you got me there. The chances of being kidnapped is way higher than having a demonic doll in my house. You work with filming?”
“No--my research is purely selfish. Mainly so I can plan what movie we should cuddle to when we have a Netflix and chill date?”
