the book is fine. I'm not too far in so I can't really say anything, but it's a little jarring to go in if you already have inferences about the characters😵‍💫 imo it reads a bit like a fanfic (in the corny way) but again. I'm not too far in.

I found the book on Amazon, a used copy. good condition but its age really shows. I think I saw some others there but idk.. I'm bad at hunting these things. good luck bro o7

I have a confession to make... I haven't seen Dead Code OR read the book. :( I have the book, but I've been too busy to read through it fully

and the only thing keeping me from watching dead code is my fear of direct-to-video sequels 😵‍💫 so I'm just working off of the OG movie

is dead code good? I like the book so far so I'll keep reading it but I'm scared to watch the sequel :(

I think wopr gijinkas should be fat. big compuiter. not just the brick we see associated w him but he's also part of the rest of norad's tech. which is also big and bulky

i feel like joshua would be very very afraid of AM but also because they were both created for the same purpose i think he would see him as family in a weird way... it would be like that one meme of a fucked up path and a niceys path. hes subconsciously looking for a father figure and he can either get attached to his fellow war machine who is fucked up and evil (AM) or he can latch onto the much more calm and collected government ai who isnt fucked up and evil (HAL). auto isnt relatable or warm enough for him to be considered in the equation LMAO

it's my birthday today, which means 10pm wargames rewatch. already part of my normal routine but now it's even specialer

WarGames (1983)

We are introduced to computer-savvy techno-brat David as he works to game the system by changing his grades in the school district’s report card database.  This presupposes a world where teachers keep no written records of grades, or at the very least that data in a computer would be trusted over the word of a professional educator.  That’s pretty stupid, right?  Well, this movie does seem to think that cutting from an exterior shot of the Seattle waterfront to a high school clearly named ‘Snohomish High’ makes any sense at all.  Geographic hilarity aside, this sense of blind faith in computers encapsulates the very core of WarGames’ larger conflict—the race to stop WOPR from sparking nuclear war.  The computer system’s LED display ‘face’ may look sinister, but it’s just carrying out a program.  Is automation the answer in war—have we so dehumanized ourselves that we need to come up with something even more empathy-free in order to ensure our future destruction?
