Home

I am a house cat, simple and plain

I was born to run in the meadows

But he locked me away in a barren room

And it is so lonely to run alone

I am a house cat, and I was unloved

Abandoned by the one I cherished most

As he crossed the ocean with my children in hand

I waited at the water’s threshold, and wondered if I would drown

I was a house cat adrift from the world 

Afraid of the tragedy that followed my stride

But they came for me when I was lost and alone

And the world is not so frightening by their side

A child with hair the color of salmon,

Her laughter bringing light to my chest

She runs with me through rows of flowers

And tells me that I am loved 

A man with hair as wild as the grass

Always moving, always searching for more

He holds me close to him at night

But does not force me to stay

These are the people that make my home

And I am a housecat, happy at last

I stare up at the sky from gentle arms

And there is no shadow to block my gaze

The sun is warmer than I ever dreamed

And my family is the warmest of all
