Experience Tumblr Like Never Before
I'm working on my game again so here is a quick concept for Serena's Tower. I wanted it to be all about vigilance with the eyes since Serena's character based pride and greed. Always perceiving everyone and everything. The tower is a pierced chalice creating streams of liquid. I wanted it to feel regal but still connected to nature on the Underground.
I might go back to flash this concept out later, I didn't work on the scenery a lot back then so I have to think about it.
This is the first character I did for the game. Oh hells is supposed to have bosses based on the 7 deadly sins, I was the last to claim mine and ended up with Hunter and Serena (Gluttony and Pride/Greed). Here is some stuff I developed for Hunter and a deeper look at their concept.
Hunter
Backstory: With all the mutations happening, Hunter developed an insatiable appetite that left them with more animal instinct than man, violent to the point that people had to sew his mouth shut a long time ago. This made them develop their side mouth, which gave them the opportunity to communicate again, but the new challenge of mobility and adaptation forced them to be less fierce and more calculated with their hunger. Stoic and serious, the years have made them a leader in their own right and they say Hunter is physically incapable of smiling.
(Expression 5 - "Friendly" is unlocked if the player decides to cut the line holding Hunter's mouth instead of stabbing them at the end of the battle.)
Gameplay: Hunter walks slowly through space and has 3 possible attacks. Short distance (front and back) they hit you with his butcher's ax like a headbutt; Medium distance (semicircle) force theit arm towards the player; and Long distance (from above) eating parts of the space, leaving this area temporarily inaccessible to the player even if you are not hit.
Here is their concept sheet and the OG color pallet I made for them. I was really happy with this silhouette, its something I really focoused with my main characters. The first color pallet was pretty much the only thing that was finished early enogh to get feedback and it just looked way to different in all of our devices I had to scrap it. After that I did multiple versions of everything and then just picked myself.
Everything side to side along the way. I had to change the colors on the neutral expression after that because everyone else was so much darker lol. Plus some of the details and adding More BloodTM on the negative expressions. They still are kinda neet side to side so here!
Serena
Serena is a character I created for my game that is loosely based on the concept of Pride and Greed. I'm gonna show some of my ideas for her and some concept art under the cut, as well as full renders.
Personality: Sererna is extremely dramatic and quick to anger. Her eye theme alludes to always being watching, judging, and wanting more. She lives high up in isolation with her treasures and her snakes, it is unknown how conscious they are or if they are purely an extension of Serena's own self-preservation. She is easily distracted by praise and loyal to those she thinks deserve it.
Gameplay: Serena flies faster and faster through space as the player takes his belongings. To delay it, you must hit its big eye, temporarily confusing it. Possible attacks: Long distance (from above) she hits you with feather projectiles as if they were lightning; Medium distance (sides) the snakes extend to bite you (making the player temporarily slower) and UNDECIDED Short distance 1. (circular) giving a low kick to the player 2. (from above) catching the player by the feet and throwing him away when it gets too close 3. (front) flapping its wings strongly in order to push the player back.
Full renders. I almost didn't do expression 5 since I was supposed to re-use poses for different expressions but I just had so much fun doing reference poses for wings I had too many photos lmao. I think it reflects well on the character to be light on her feet and always moving around
Here is her concept art and color test. I pretty much strainght away wanted her to have the colors of the greek eyes plus some bronze and gold to complement the pride and greed theme, so I just had to decide which colors go where. I did a poll on instagram todecide at the end. I designed her doing a lot of tiny drawings so it could be understood in a smaller form so I had a lot of alternatives when drawing her full size concept (which is the only time I actually looked at vulture wings, can you tell? lol)
Nelli and Angelus
These two are meant to be our protagonist's sidekids throughout the journey, they give you choices in your interactions with the other characters and simbolize the paths you may take. Their banter helps to make it less like a lonely road you have to take to get your memories back.
The Lords
All the Lords Eli can initially access in his quest. They work for the same causes but live isolated from each other in their own unique ways you must find. Some of these guys arent as keen on visitors tho. We will find more about these guys individually soon
Top row are co-designed by me and another designer on the team (they did the concept and I the final design and art with color and poses. If the colors dont match its fully on me lmao) and botton row are fully mine in all ways.
Eli
Eli is our protagonist. When he fell down what appers to be Hell he didn't know anything except that he must have had a purpose getting trown there. Nobody seams to have any clue of what that is or how he can find out, except two talking swords that are greatly amused by his possible quest and decide to help him get his memories back.
The lords of this world might be worth investigating after all... Good luck for him.
