Why am I so sure that Cardamom’s mom is magical (and, by extension, he is too?)
Evidence for his Mom: 1) She has a potion necklace. 2)Her eyes change, 3) Her pupil is unusual for this art style. 3) Her colors are that of elements. Purple:spirit, green:earth, yellow:air, pink: fire or love, and blue:water Elements are used in magic. 4)In the scene with Puppycat, she has stars with symbols floating around her, defying gravity. 5) She has a canon and seems to be friends with Puppycat, implying she, too, is an outlaw. Magic is often outlawed and feared.
Evidence for Cardamom:
1) We never see him eat. The one time he gets food, he gives it to his dog. 2) In some Lazy in Space content, we see him visibly upset about something (likely that his mom is still sleeping), surrounded by colorful watery orbs with objects in them. Later, Bee calls these orbs “tears”. So, assuming these are Cardamon’s tears, he is somehow conjuring items by crying, or his tears are growing the items, getting bigger everyday, like an Orbee or seed. 3)He is seen saying “This isn’t normal!” and “why don’t adults think this is weird”, implying something abnormal or magical is happening and 4) Bee takes what looks like a tear, puts it in a watering can, and magically it make a rose that has multiple, crying, eyeballs. If it;s Cardamom’s tears, he is clearly magical. 5) There a other images of Bee and him in places with large overgrown plants, plants that are growing very fast, and a storyboard with Cardamom and Sticky standing in front of a wild-looking garden.
and, more on a speculative level, Cardamom is asking for HELP. Cardamom, the fiercely independent landlord-child who removed Bee from her apartment so he “could work”. He is shown in a storyboard tiredly cradling a tear and saying “I don’t know what any of this means”, implying there is something unusual, something mysterious that he (as smart as he is ) is complexed about. And what is could be more confusing and illogical than magic?
.Additionally, in many media and shows, magic is tied to one’s emotions.Cardamom is SAD, and the magic is manifesting as TEARS. And, in many stories about magic users, repressed/bottled emotions often boil under the surface until they come bursting out as magic. That’s a lot of tears, a lot of plants, a lot of magic, and a lot of times we see Cardamom visibly upset. Coincidence? I think not.
