As Horrid Henry grows older, what do you think his relationship with his family would be like?

Hmm I know most people hate Henry’s parents with a passion and I do to sometimes but I really like the idea of literally everyone in the family chills out as they get older starting with Henry getting less mischievous or at the very least only uses pranks for good and this results with Simon and whatever headcanon name you have for the mum (I like Francesca cause Simon was named after the Simon family so it feels appropriate to me to just complete the reference to the author and her family) punishing Henry less and this results in Peter no longer feeling like he has to be perfect to receive love cause “Henry isn’t perfect and they still love him” so he sheds his toxic perfectionism and this makes Henry like him a lot more cause he no longer acts like he’s better than Henry

It takes some adjusting for everyone to get used to the new status quo and how different they’re all acting and this causes them all to reflect Simon and Francesca realize that they’ve been too hard on Henry and have been actively treating him with more benefit of doubt and understanding Henry reflects and thinks about how he wasn’t the easiest child to raise and he’s been picking up more responsibilities around the house like cleaning up and being more tidy (Henry is definitely sympathetic but he is also a little shit and I do not want this to be ignored) and Peter reflects on how his parents favoritism towards him have stunted his and Henry’s relationship as brothers so he’s been regularly hanging out with Henry they love bonding over music specifically Henry also learned guitar so they play together all the time too in general most of the problems the family used to have are gone simply cause they grew out of it changed as people and did some self reflection on what they used to be like

tl;dr: they all got older and mellowed out

Do you think Horrid Henry’s family is dysfunctional?

I’d say yes especially in regards in how they treat Peter vs how they treat Henry cause to me that’s the parents’ biggest sin the blatant favoritism toward Peter to the point of sometimes not believing Henry like when he said he didn’t eat the chocolates in the book version where Great Aunt Greta comes to visit

I swear are both sides of Henry’s family just cursed to have the older sibling and younger sibling beef? Like Henry and Peter Simon and Francis and it was even implied in the same episode that the mum was the Peter to Ruby’s Henry judging by the end of the episode

I know according to the Horrid Henry lore Polly is Henry’s adult cousin but I think making her the mum’s younger sister makes more sense because I’m pretty sure Ruby is older than mum and she gives me huge grown up middle child energy in a way I can’t explain

I was unaware of how short Miss Lovely was look at this short queen

Ok so I just watched the Horrid Henry episode about Prissy Polly’s wedding and like she seems to have a soft spot for Henry??? At least that’s how I interpreted it.

At the beginning of the episode we see Polly at least trying to bond with Henry. We see her trying to brush his hair (a common bonding between female cousins specifically. My older cousin who looks a lot like Polly actually would brush my hair all the time when she came over) although Henry didn’t like it cause she was being too rough. She was at least trying to bond.

And what does she do when Henry falls in that puddle just before the wedding? Does she yell at him and call him horrid like Henry’s parents? No. She does start to get upset, but she then calms herself down, leans down to Henry and kisses him on the forehead.

Have we EVER SEEN Henry’s mum give him that kinda affection? From the episodes I’ve watched, no. And she only got truly upset when Henry toppled the (probably very expensive) cake on her in her (also probably very expensive) wedding dress. Contrasts this with Paul who seemed like he was gonna beat Henry’s ass this episode. And we know this changes. He also grows a soft spot for Henry. Site the entire milkman episode.

Why can’t she always be like this?
