Do you think Mags just stuck Finnick with Haymitch whenever she couldn't watch him while in the Capitol? I think it'd be cute with Haymitch, semi-drunk, having to watch over another kid because Mags asked him to and since it's Mags he can't say no.
He gets Annie too eventually because Mags decides that despite the alcohol, Haymitch is good with talking down kids. He lets her read to him and listens. Much softer than his sass with Finnick.
After the 74th game he's now stuck with four kids indefinitely because of course Katniss and Peeta are also his. Kids flock to him like glue and he doesn't know why.
I want more fics of Haymitch being sweet with kids because it's literally ingrained in him. They're his reluctant gaggle of geese.
