Casey felt her eyes on his lip. He could only imagine the state he was in. "Nothing. It's not important -- I just need to leave, and quickly. Say you'll come with me. Please, Corey." The male replied as he begged her. "Yeah, he did, but I'm not taking it anymore. I'm getting far away from here" Casey muttered, wincing as he pressed a hand to his lip.

corey  had  only  been  standing  on  casey’s  doorstep  less  than  a  minute  before  the  door  swung  open.  her  pouty,  glossed  lips  parted,  eyes  zeroing  in  on  her  friend’s  bloodied  lip.  “whoa,  what  happened?”  the  response  fell  from  his  mouth  so  fast  that  her  brain  could  barely  keep  up.  must’ve  had  something  to  do  with  coming  off  a  ten  hour  shift  at  the  gas  station.  it  sounded  like  a  jumbled  mess.  all  she  heard  was  come  with  me.  “c’mere.”  corey  breathed,  pulling  him  onto  the  porch.  “your  dad  did  this?”

“'fraid it isn't a phase, but a maybank trait. i would have thought you would have figured that out by now, i mean you've seen my brother. you know my brother.”

it isn't snarky—but it isn't sweet either. it's somewhere in between, because she doesn't like the fact that millie knows her well enough to be able to read her. “my brother and your brother are god knows where, doin' god knows what, and i'm supposed to—... what? skip across the beach, alcohol in hand? act like everything's fine and dandy?”

“this  isn't  concern  …"  millie  chuckled  drying,  arms  folding  over  her  chest  with  a  click  of  her  tongue.  always  playing  it  cool,  unaffected  by  others.  the  only  person  she  ever  truly  worried  over  was  john  b.  "it's  me  acknowledging  how  fucking  annoying  you've  been  acting  lately  and  wanting  to  know  what's  up.  like  how  long  is  this  attitude  gonna  last?”

“no, nothin', but...” blue eyes descended the entirety of olivia whitman, narrowing in suspicious once they met the other's again. “somethin's going on with you. i don't know what, but somethin'. you've got a glow. it's giving 'i'm getting laid', but i could be wrong.”

how  did  she  know?  sucking  in  a  breath,  olivia  immediately  went  into  denial  mode,  glossed  lips  curling  at  the  ends.  “nothing  …  everything's  good.  no  news  to  report.”  she  was  overcompensating,  but  no  one  knew  that  she  and  pope  heyward  were  dating.  the  last  thing  she  wanted  was  shit  from  her  friends  for  seeing  a  pogue  in  secret.  “why  did  you  hear  something?”

“first things first, honey pot,” she raises her chin, the pogue's head held high now, “we aren't on entitlement isle, watch your tone. you don't talk to me like that—nobody talks to me like that.”

“might know somethin', might not, you don't know and you won't know 'til you show some basic fucking courtesy. instead of barking orders, try a please.”

autumn  contemplated  the  question,  mulling  over  it  for  a  pause.  “no.  you  don't  have  the  balls.”  she  concluded,  head  tilting  back  at  amelia.  “but  i  think  you  know  who  did.  and  i  want  to  know  …  or  things  are  going  to  get  very  bad  for  you."
