Sodo, brusting into the room: It's missing!
Rain, turned away: What missing?
Sodo: T-the thing!
Rain, gets up while removing Phantom's head from his lap: What thing?
Sodo, relaxing: Oh! You have it.
Rain: Wh-
Rain: YOU MEANT OUR CHILD LIKE A THING?
Nothing yet...
Our poor little Ghoul 🩵
[Dew goes silent. Not suitable for younger audiences. Implied/referenced unprovoked violence. I think this is the first time I've kind of written hurt/no comfort? Kind of?] Below the cut.
It's... It's silly really.
Dew idly plucks at the strings of his bass, no rhyme or reason to the pinch and pull, just an excuse to snap them against the fretboard and hear them twang and buzz.
It's stupid.
He coughs and Omega shoots him a worried look, almost dropping the jar of ointment in his hands, "You okay, kit?"
Dew's ear twitches, but that's the only response the older ghoul really gets from the younger, eyes glassy and unfocused, teeth clenched in spite of the large bruise across his chin.
He's fine, he tells himself that much, but when Omega approaches him to treat the split in his brow, he flinches.
"I'm not going to hurt you." Omega assures him, unable to get the smaller man to meet his gaze.
Buzz.
Dew bows his head, letting Omega prod at his face, continuing to fiddle with the strings between his fingers.
Twang.
He hasn't let go of it since the incident.
Not since Alpha attacked him.
Snap.
Not since Ifrit picked him up off the floor.
Buzz...
Mist tried to take it from him when she saw the state of him, tried to get him to let go for just a second so she could check on him, but he wouldn't let her.
His nails are a little dirty...
Dew's stomach swims.
...Twang...
"I need to see your hands, Dewdrop."
He shakes his head.
"Dew, I have to-"
He shakes his head.
"Dewdrop."
Omega pulls the bass from his grip, it doesn't take much force at all, the way Dew's fingers are cramped and sore.
"Dew..."
His hands continue to twitch, but his eyes lose their fog, replaced by the misty shimmer of tears.
...SNAP.
"Oh, oh, kit, it's okay..."
It's not.
It's really not.
A week passes.
Alpha hasn't shown his face anywhere near the ghouls' den.
Probably won't be back for a long time.
If ever.
But it doesn't stop Dew from looking.
Doesn't change that he can't seem to find his words.
His hands shake when they're not holding something, but Mist won't give him back his bass, and Omega keeps him away from the practice rooms, saying he needs to stop.
Needs to rest.
Needs to do something...
Something else.
"For just a little while, okay?"
The larger ghoul is stressed, and trying hard not to let it show.
Dew blames himself, and he knows the others suspect as much, but so long as he keeps his mouth shut, it's all just hearsay.
Another week passes, and he thinks he's better.
He still...
Still can't talk.
But!
But he can play!
...Right?
Mist gives him back his bass, and it feels like a piece of him has been returned to him.
He feels more confident with it in front of him.
Safe.
Almost.
Practice goes well.
Real progress.
...and then Ifrit gets too close.
It's not his fault, how Dew reacts.
His hand comes up to clap him on the shoulder and Dew panics thinking he's about to be hit.
Omega has to carry him out of the practice room because he can't move his legs.
But... but he can move his fingers.
Even if they just uselessly paw at the air mimicking that...
Buzz.
Twang.
Snap.
Dew would like to say he got "better".
That he pushed through and that he's "okay" now.
But he's not.
He can talk, most of the time, but he can't talk about it.
Never talks about it.
When Omega visits and gives him a look he knows all too well, one that tells him, "You can talk to me."
He avoids him.
Avoids the questions.
The comments.
The concerns.
He pretends like he's not that same person who was hurt.
That he's not still... scared.
That when the other ghouls get too close, his anger is all play, and not just a façade to cover up his fear.
"It's called fight or flight, Dew, but there's a third reaction and-"
Dew isn't the same pussy ass water ghoul who froze up on stage when Alpha swiped at him.
He's not.
He's not.
He's-
He worries the fat strings of his old bass between his fingers, ignoring the deep scratch along the body that lines up a little too well with the line of scars that extend from the tip of his pinkie, across his chest and stop abruptly at his brow.
Buzz.
Aether finds Dew alone in his room, legs crossed on his bed, fiddling with the tuning pegs, loosening the strings.
Twang.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
.
.
.
"No."
Snap.
Escape
Terzo: *crawl through the gates of hell*
Lucifer: What are you doing? Where are you going?
Terzo: If Nihil can escape hell then so can I
There's really no chance against that
News Article: Pope Francis arrives in Japan and declares “Ever since I was young, I have felt a fondness and affection for these lands.”
Swiss: So, the Pope is a weeb?
Dew: Does that mean he has the power of God AND Anime on his side?! I think it’s time to pack it in, ghouls and ghoulettes. God is one thing, but we don’t stand a chance against Anime Logic and Shonen Plot Armor…
Papa's help
Phantom: If we are in danger and we need help, who do we call?
Sodo: Papa.
Phantom: What if Papa can't help?
Sodo: If Papa can't help we're all doomed.
It's a really hard decision ngl
How do they react to a new Ghoul/Ghoulette?
(A little music for the story...only because this was the last song I listened to while writing)
Sodo:
He is really reserved at the beginning and only sees the mistakes you make, so half of his eyes will always be on you. BUT! He will notice more and more similarities between himself and you, so he will spend more time around you.But he does all this in such a way as not to be too noticeable, because he is Sodo after all. When you sit on the couch, he sits next to you because "it's more comfortable there", or when you practice, he goes to practice too, if you play the guitar, he gives you a couple of tips to make it easier to play through a concert, etc. In the end, you will notice that there is no place where he is not there with you, and you will consciously spend more time with him. I'll give you two months and you and Sodo will prank the others together
Swiss:
Swiss is very accommodating and he will be the first Ghoul to talk to you all afternoon after your summoning, show you around the ministry and help you set up your room while talking about the band. He helps you find which instrument suits you and then finally gives the others free space to talk to you. He will be the Ghoul with whom you fall asleep on the sofa and no one will be surprised if you go on random trips either as you two or with others. You and Swiss will be very good friends very soon.
Rain:
He takes you a little more calmly than anyone in the Ministry. He gives you time and lets you want to talk to him first if you want, completely the opposite of what Swiss did. After you get to know each other enough, Rain takes on the role of a protective brother and tries to help you in everything. Don't know how to use your power? He helps you. Don't you know what to do when you're angry? Rain will still be there for you. Can't learn one of the music you play at a concert, even though you've been practicing for a long time? He sits down next to you and helps you practice until you feel sure of your knowledge. If you have any problems, you can turn to Rain at any time and he will always take care of it for you. It goes back and forth with you two, if Rain has a problem, you help him out.
Phantom:
Two new members in one place, as soon as he settled in, he got a new and unknown Ghoul/Ghoulette and he is afraid that he will offends you. Since no one knows you yet, there is no one to ask what you like and what you don't like so he will avoid talking to you in the beginning. (which, let's face it, hurts you a little, but he doesn't do it directly) When he realizes that he hurt you, he will do everything to make it up to you. Poor little thing has always hugs you when he sees you ever since so you don't think he doesn't like you. After you talked about why he avoided you, You two spend a lot of time with each other and with Aurora, and you will become the "rookie trio".
Mountain:
He's the one who looks scary but he is a cinnamon roll. He is much taller than you, the tallest member of the band and also one of the most patient and quiet member. In the beginning, you two won't talk much (he doesn't talk that much basically), but you get along quite well. After a couple of concerts, you'll be beating the poor guy's drum like Swiss and Sodo. You have something in common and after a while you get unlimited access to the Earth Ghoul garden.
Aether:
(since he is not around the band much now, so it's like "I just got back who the hell are you?") Aether is very surprised as he did not expect another new member. You will also notice this, because whenever you hear him speak, he will surely ask the others about you, so you will be the one to speak with him first and not vice versa. In any case, Aether gonna likes you too very quickly and tells a lot about what the band was like in the past and what they did together, which you always listen to curiously.
Cirrus/Cumulus:
(I write them together because I think they would react almost the same and would always be by your side) Cumulus and Cirrus would take on the role of mother in the beginning and help you a lot. I'm sure, and no one can change my mind about this, but Cumulus and Cirrus are very gossipy and will tell you all sorts of things about the others. Spill the tea every night bby. Basically, the two of them were really looking forward to having a new member among them, because the more the better.
Sunshine:
SHE WILL TREAT YOU THE CUTEST. Sunshine is an energy bomb and gets you into all things adrenaline related. Everyone describes her as calm, quiet...well fuck this. Sunshine is the loudest, most electrifying personality (after Swiss ofc) and I'm sure there isn't a day that doesn't go by where she doesn't get hurt for some reason, slipped on the floor, slipped on the stairs. She's the one who randomly jumps up from the couch and just said...Swiss you catch everyone!...and starts playing tag with anyone. You just can't help but love Sunshine and she will be a very good friend.
Aurora:
Aurora will be completely fired up that she is finally not the "new member". She will be the one who can finally provide normal advice regarding integration, as she recently went through this too. She will spend a lot of time with you and be as direct with you as Swiss. You quickly develop a good relationship with each other and regularly go to dance with her at concerts.
(ps.: sorry if I worded something wrong or the spelling is wrong, English is not my first language)
