Hey, everyone! Due to the sudden influx of viewers on AO3, the site has had to modify some things, including the experience of guest users and how hits are counted on the site. This is not the fault of AO3 (they’re doing their best to keep things up and running for all of us), but if you’re a guest user following stories on AO3, PLEASE make sure to leave kudos for your authors to see. We understand it can be difficult to get an account on AO3 (probably more now with COVID-19 leaving people in their homes), but sudden drops in statistics can be inexplicable and disheartening.
Keep your heads up, people. We’re gonna get through this.
I finally read the The Target. For anyone not familiar with this title, it heralds back to the Officer Grayson days. Dick is setup to take the fall for some dirty cops of the Blüdhaven PD and adopts the identity The Target to clear his name name for Reasons.
I came across this gem:
That’s right. They practiced throwing guns. As confirmed by Nightwing (1996) #33:
It called to mind another gun-throwing identity of Dick Grayson’s.
Flash forward to the New 52.
That’s right, Agent 37. Was is pure coincidence Agent 8 mentioned guns and targets? Or was it an Easter Egg?
Who could forget his iconic theme song?
His fellow agents may have given him grief over his choice of gun handling, but apparently Dick had lots of practice hurling those bad boys.
Finding these references is like undercovering buried treasure to me. I get way to much pleasure from it. Has anyone else found any good links from the old to the new like this?
Sometimes I say self loathing things to my therapist and he looks at me dead in the eyes before saying “You fucking moron.” and tbh same
STRETCH ARMSTRONG AND THE FLEX FIGHTERS IS ON NETFLIX RIGHT NOW AND I WATCHED THE WHOLE THING!! ITS SO GREAT AND YOU SHOULD WATCH IT!!
Nathan is best boy
*ed and al mess up* on no! moms gonna go ballistic on us!
sometimes i try to scroll past this but then i feel guilty
kindness is beautiful
Something I like about Stretch Armstrong & the Flex Fighters is that it features semi-realistic depictions of unhealthy, or at least worrying, family situations for teenage boys and how that impacts emotions/behavior.
For example, Mr. Armstrong aggressively pushes Jake to overachieve, all while being physically & emotionally unavailable to his son and ignoring their mutual pain over the loss of Mrs. Armstrong. Jake RECOGNIZES this as incorrect, but is unable to confront his dad.
Ricardo’s parents are nearly always working, often breaking promises to spend time with their child. Again, Ricardo knows this is wrong, but seems unable to address or alter the dynamic. Moreover, this lack of permanence & attention has taken a SERIOUS toll on Ricardo’s self image & social skills.
Both Jake & Ricardo have clean, well maintained living conditions. They go to school, are physically fit and eat well. Their parents are gainfully employed and wish the best for their children… yet it is evident that something is WRONG in these households and it is hurting these kids.
So, you have 2 heroic teenage-boy characters in a BOY’S ACTION SHOW who are written to experience and express sadness & anxiety over their parent’s lack of positive input in their lives. They are allowed to be upset that they are being emotionally neglected.
Neglect/abuse is not presented as something that happens in “bad” homes, and it doesn’t create “bad” kids. Jake & Ricardo are our heroes! Nevertheless, it is happens and has an impact.
1. Stretchy bois
2. DIVERSE stretchy bois!!! Jake has a single, overbearing father and his mother passed away, Ricardo is a black teen with two successful parents who are never home, and Nathan is a Chinese (???? Not stated explicitly) teen with a massive, loving family.
3. Scott Menville (Robin, Teen Titans) and Steven Yeun (Keith, Voltron: Legendary Defender) voice two of the three main leads which is fucking amazing to listen to and provides great amv fodder
4. Main black character who used to be in a gang but pulled himself up and now helps manage and run the most successful company in town
5. Sly Chinese grandpa who finds out the kids are superheroes and instead of telling offers them a cover story if they need one
6. Bad ass female characters who don’t need no man (but still date because girls can do what they want)
7. Boys who aren’t afraid!!! To have feelings!!! And one who’s learning that thats okay!!!
8. Terrible humor and making fun of slang terms. So many puns about stretching.
9. Criminals who are only criminals because they don’t really have another choice who are given second chances instead of jail time
10. Really nice looking animation????
11. A continuous story arch but each episode is still unique to the show
12. Overall diverse show??? Like even background and side characters aren’t just white?? I haven’t watched the whole series and so far there isn’t lgbt stuff, but I wouldn’t put it past them.
13. Botany teacher who is WAY too into plants. And everyone loves said plants. Also botany teach is super protective of his students
14. Bois who enjoy some schoolwork but also hate it. You know, like a normal teenager.
15. Side character bully played by Josh Keaton (Shiro, VLD) who HATES Nathan (played by Steven Yeun [Keith]) which is fucking hilarious
16. Such polite bois who say please and thank you to the villains
In conclusion pls watch this show I’m so pleased with it thus far its worth your time I promise
Consider: Ed shouting at Mustang “you’re not the boss of me!!!” And Roy is just like “I am both your commanding officer and your legal guardian. I am the boss of you twice over.”
considered and accepted as canon this definitely happened AT LEAST once POSSIBLY on multiple occasions.Ed will just never accept the fact that sometimes… the bosses and/or dads in your life… are in charge of you….
