so i definitely vibe with the headcanon that andrew gets a medusa tattoo, but hear me out:

so in the actual myth, athena doesn’t curse medusa out of pity or to save her from the men that aim to assault her. she did it out of rage and vengeance after medusa’s rape basically defiled her temple. on top of that, when she is beheaded by perseus, athena then puts her head on her shield to protect herself against enemies.

with this in mind, i think andrew having a medusa tattoo, or relating to medusa in any way, is kind of ironic and takes on a different meaning when you think about it.

he dealt with unwanted attention and sexual abuse his whole childhood. he was raped in cass’s home, a place where he put up with so many advances and assaults, and so much pain and confusion. he loved and respected her, and wanted to protect his brother.

in the end, he was punished for being assaulted by so many people in his life. It’s insinuated that cass knew what was going on, and she let it happen. his uncle blamed him, and his brother resented him in his ignorance.

then he was labeled as a monster, and used for his protection by so many people in his life.

i just think it’s a interesting comparison to make.

I mentioned this earlier this week and here it is! A teaser for the AFTG AU fic I've been working on :3 Since writing this, I've made some changes to my plans for this fic, so there's already plenty of edits to be made but if anyone has any feedback for my writing style then feel free to say :P

CW/TW: implied/referenced rape and assault (lmk if there's any other warnings to add)

Neil's broken into a sweat by the time he makes it to Wymack's apartment building and up three flights of stairs to his front door. Practise had been gruelling with Kevin having a temper tantrum over Andrew's disappearing act. Combined with his run from the stadium Neil's toned legs are left aching from Kevin's backlash. After his therapy session, Andrew had refused to return to practise and instead chose to crash at Coach's and was likely pilfering from his alcohol collection.

He knocks, and when he receives no answer, calls out to Andrew. He'd be almost certain that Andrew is passed out somewhere in the apartment if it weren't for the muffled murmuring and rustling from inside.

He knocks again, harder and faster. Concern begins to creep in. Andrew is an asshole, sure, but with everything going on lately, including the awful offer of dinner from Nicky's parents on the twins' birthday, Andrew would open the door on principle just to tell him to fuck off. He's about to knock again when a voice that's definitely not Andrew's yells for him to come in. And so, Neil cautiously tries the door handle and lets himself in, only to be confused by the scene that greets him.

At first glance, Andrew is nowhere to be seen and instead, Coach's couch is occupied by a hunched over broad-shouldered short-haired man in a wife-beater. The stranger looks up at his entrance with a smile splitting his clean-shaven face. A flailing leg brings his attention downwards and it's then that he sees the restricted hands and a familiar flash of blond hair amongst the mess of couch cushions.

"What the…?" Neil doesn't have the chance to finish before he's being slammed back against the door. Hands wrap around his throat and squeeze hard. Despite Neil's flailing, the enemy is strong and his resistance is futile as black spots invade his vision. He's dropped before he passes out and is barely able to catch his breath before he's grabbed and dragged to the other couch. He's shoved face down and straddled by the man who grabs a handful of his hair and forces his head up so he can see Andrew laying similarly across from him. Andrew's eyes fluttering open and closed with his withdrawal likely in full effect and a concussion on top, it's no wonder he's barely conscious.

obsessed with the idea that even when andrew and neil fight it’s glaringly obvious that they love each other very much

so for example after an argument neil leaves and slams the door behind him without a word but then he opens it back up again, says that he’ll be back and then slams it even louder. andrew pretends he doesn’t give a fuck but he silently appreciates it bc it means that neil hasn’t left left

or like andrew throwing neil out but not telling him to give back keys, bc a key is a home and he doesn’t want to take that away from neil. arguing but never throwing the word misunderstanding around. smashing dishes but not those favourite cups that were a gift from the foxes. pushing and probing and provoking but never breaking

I just think that both neil and andrew know each others’ softest spots and they could very easily destroy each other. but they don’t and they won’t bc they trust and respect each other way too much for that and I think that’s very beautiful

You know what makes me sit in silence everytime i think about it?

The fact that Andrew was attracted to every version of Neil.

He thought he was hot when he still had his brown eyes/brown hair

He thought he was hot when he had blue eyes/brown hair

He thought he was hot when he had blue eyes/auburn hair and the number 4 tattooed under his eye. ”you are a pipe dream“ , he said, looking at Neils bruised and most honest self.

Then Baltimore. Neil got tortured. Got bruised all over his skin, scars that’ll never be forgotten and what does Andrew do? He asks yes or no and kisses his hip.

It sure af wasn’t love at first sight but the fact that his initial attraction never faded gives you a hint about what Neil is for Andrew.

(Not to mention how the versions of Neil changed the more Andrew learned about Neil as well. First he was Neil. Then he was Abram. Then he was Nathaniel. Until he finally became Neil Abram Josten.

All the lies. All the truths. It all came together and Andrew was there during all of it).
