classic academia: beige trench coats, wool sweaters. plaid skirts. think femme fatale, but educated. sobbing in bed late at night over the secret history or dead poets society. tea with milk and sugar. subsequent tea stains.
darkest academia: running through the rain, dimly lit by streetlights. brown tweed jackets, dress shoes. cold fingers and colder gazes. french-pressed black coffee, piping hot. dark, candlelit rooms with ancient wood floors/walls.
light academia: white cable-knit sweaters, sparkly eyes and foggy glasses. going to art museums and falling in love with every portrait, every sculpture. caressing the petals of a rose, hearing the crinkle of leaves underfoot.
witchy academia: burning candles while reading or doing homework. black turtlenecks, velvet skirts. walking through the forest in autumn. passing a graveyard and feeling a greyish presence. waiting anxiously for samhain.
romantic academia: writing flowery poetry about someone you’ll never speak to (guilty oops). a cozy alizarin sweater, pleated skirts. slow dancing around your room to the beatles. curling up with warm, pallid cups of tea and a book.
scholarly academia: impeccable notes in class. leather bound bags crammed with textbooks and pens. lots of coffee with scones, and even more late nights. a wide vocabulary (that people constantly comment on). lives in the library.
theatre academia: shakespeare, all the time - quoting, reading, praying for a school production of a midsummer nights dream. or the crucible. memorizing lines in the wings. taking on your character’s traits, even outside the theater.
reading alone in your room at sunset with your windows open while the wind caresses your skin is probably the closest thing we have to a cure for the human condition
Every once in a while, a Ravenclaw uses the same spell that’s in the Great Hall to make the ceiling in their common room mimic the weather outside. Most of them find it calming, especially when it’s raining.
Professor: you’ve failed two tests now,
Ravenclaw: That’s twice you’ve failed to educate me.
i already like him.
dark academia/classic lit community we need to do better, you cannot call yourself well read after only reading one perspective. READ AUTHORS OF COLOR, especially black authors in this time, and always. if we love learning so much, we need to educate ourselves, the white-male focus of these communities is shameful and needs to change.
Gryffindor: cold nights, rocks, watching the sunset, red lipstick, leather jackets, motorcycles, croissants, light dresses, long hair, summer rains
Hufflepuff: plain T-shirt’s, sharks, wildflowers, braids, ponies, kisses on the cheek, cats, morning sunshine, old cities, indie music, cabins in the woods, the sea
Ravenclaw: castles, libraries, boots, rooftops, sunrises, shampoo, pale skin, tea, crows, blue eyes, sweaters, silently swearing, smell of perfume, fresh fruits
Slytherin: white long dresses, woods, dancing, long songs, blonde hair, suits, red lipstick on a paper towel, hot showers, museums, scratches and bruises, coffee, dark nights
@quidditchleaguenet february challenge: favorite locations - ravenclaw team - ravenclaw common room
i imagine the ravenclaw common room to be the most open of all the common rooms.
what i mean by open is that the ceiling of the tower is full of windows. so during the day, all the natural light comes in, and during the night, you can easily look up and see all the stars.
there is a lot of stargazing every night, and a lot of the ravenclaw students will fall asleep together out in the main area with books in their lap and quills in their hands.
there is also constant music playing in the background. depending on who settled in the common room first that day, that’s what determines the genre.
some days it is classical, some days it is muggle alternative, and some days it is even rap.
ravenclaws welcome all different preferences, and there are rarely any arguments regarding the music playing. as long as it is quiet enough in the background for people to study, read, or socialize.
ravenclaws also do not fear students from other houses finding a way into their common room and solving a riddle, because if they are smart or creative enough to figure it out, they consider that person one of them.
they welcome all chances for growth and intellectual discussion, and they don’t care who it is. they love to broaden their perspectives. so occasionally throughout the day, some gryffindors, hufflepuffs, or slytherins will pop in and spice things up and to see their friends. they just have to solve the riddle themselves first.
I also see all the wood in the common room being white, which makes it even brighter.
there would also be dark blue tapestries with bronze and silver constellations etched onto them.
they would have their own personal library in there organized by genre, and they would have an art center where students could set up canvases and paint/draw.
in the library, students could trade and swap out books with each other at any time, and in the art area, it was even encouraged that students could paint on the walls there until inspiration came to them.
basically, the ravenclaw common room is a place where ravenclaws are free to completely be themselves. all their eccentricities are accepted, and there is a place in the common room to support all interests.
oh to wear dark turtlenecks and oversized blazers, consume unhealthy amounts of coffee, study during rainy nights whilst the moon stares at you, go to long lost ruins of old castles with your friends and make poetry about your secret lover
hanako is an annoying brat and i love it
