@quidditchleaguenet february challenge: favorite locations - ravenclaw team - ravenclaw common room
i imagine the ravenclaw common room to be the most open of all the common rooms.
what i mean by open is that the ceiling of the tower is full of windows. so during the day, all the natural light comes in, and during the night, you can easily look up and see all the stars.
there is a lot of stargazing every night, and a lot of the ravenclaw students will fall asleep together out in the main area with books in their lap and quills in their hands.
there is also constant music playing in the background. depending on who settled in the common room first that day, that’s what determines the genre.
some days it is classical, some days it is muggle alternative, and some days it is even rap.
ravenclaws welcome all different preferences, and there are rarely any arguments regarding the music playing. as long as it is quiet enough in the background for people to study, read, or socialize.
ravenclaws also do not fear students from other houses finding a way into their common room and solving a riddle, because if they are smart or creative enough to figure it out, they consider that person one of them.
they welcome all chances for growth and intellectual discussion, and they don’t care who it is. they love to broaden their perspectives. so occasionally throughout the day, some gryffindors, hufflepuffs, or slytherins will pop in and spice things up and to see their friends. they just have to solve the riddle themselves first.
I also see all the wood in the common room being white, which makes it even brighter.
there would also be dark blue tapestries with bronze and silver constellations etched onto them.
they would have their own personal library in there organized by genre, and they would have an art center where students could set up canvases and paint/draw.
in the library, students could trade and swap out books with each other at any time, and in the art area, it was even encouraged that students could paint on the walls there until inspiration came to them.
basically, the ravenclaw common room is a place where ravenclaws are free to completely be themselves. all their eccentricities are accepted, and there is a place in the common room to support all interests.

so many people overlook the genuine love of friends. how platonic relationships sometimes are more permanent. friendships like “hang on let me send you a nude i want you to tell me if this underwear looks good”. friendships like no, don’t, the peach looks literally so much better on you, you pop in peach. friendships like dump him but i understand why it’s hard for you to let go of deep relationships so i’ll be here until you do dump him and i’ll be the only one not to say “i told you so.” friendships like call me at three in the morning because of a spider, like hey saw this and thought of you but it’s a spongebob meme, like people think we’re dating and we honestly haven’t corrected them, like tell you the truth even if it’s a hard one to hear, like trust you with my life. friendships like wait i have the perfect outfit for you to wear on your date i’m driving the 45 minutes so we can play dressup and talk about flirting. like i know when to comfort you and when to distract you. like you’re kind of my favorite person but like also don’t tell anyone i said that i will deny it you’re gross and a jerk. like i know you’re sad come over i made cider and halloweentown is queued up and ready to go. like i will use your body as a shield between myself and the scary movie but i have also jumped someone for speaking badly to you. like you’ve been my rock my sword and the person who drags my drunk ass home. like that love that’s just two people who can sit in a room together with a bottle of wine in our bodies talking about how directors make poor color choices in movies. that’s love. don’t write it off because they don’t make movies around it. but that’s love.
Fumble their words the more they’ve thought about them. The sentence seems perfect in their head, but when they go to speak it aloud, the previous versions get mixed in.
everyone’s out here like “buy Disney plus” “no, pirate!” you fools. the best way to experience a tv show is vicariously through tumblr posts about baby yoda
The inexplicable romanticism of reading indoors during a thunderstorm.
The existential suspicion that there is something more waiting out there for you to find it.
The dark and heady way they move through the corridors, as though they were crafted from the gods themselves.
In a good bookroom you feel in some mysterious way that you are absorbing the wisdom contained in all the books through your skin, without even opening them.

I want soft things. Soft things that are the same time dark. Like victorian dark, not morbid dark. I want to recieve mail. I want to wear soft socks. I want to live and work in a library all day. I want to know a library like the back of my hand. I want to be left alone but I also want to be noticed. I want to cram books in a bookshelf that cannot take more. Then because the bookshelf is full, I want to line books by the bed. Then the study table. Then the window. I want to walk in the mornings across mossy dewy cemeteries. I want my bag to be heavy with books. And a diary with messy writing. I want to press leaves between pages and find them years later. I want to wear flannel. And soft sweaters. I want to visit art galleries, museums. Antique stores. I want to fill my apartment with wooden furniture. I want plants. I want tea in the evening in my balcony as the sun sets and the city turns pink. I want to stand in the sun, taking in the morning light.
