One of my favorite moments while reading Emma is when Mr. John Knightley is absolutely flabbergasted that Mr. Weston would rather attend a party with several people than sit at home near a fire.
You and me both Mr. Knightley

Lucy Gray : NO <3
I don't want more just enough. I don't want a luxury lifestyle just a proper decent one where I can afford basic joys like good housing and healthcare and entertainment.
I wish there was more time being spent teaching people from a young age that it is okay not to be rich.
I mean the statement, "It's okay not to be rich," seems really silly. Common sense should tell us that this is obvious. However, consumerism and materialism are on the rise. People scroll through their social media feeds and get depressed because they don't have the means to just randomly decide to take a jet to Paris, France because they "felt like it" like their favorite influencers do. And people seem to lack the capacity to realize that most of that stuff is fake anyway.
Most normal people would like to be a little more well-off for security reasons. I wouldn't mind a little more money solely because it would allow me to worry about fewer things and indulge in things here and there that I don't get to do, but I have no desire to be rich. I just don't see the appeal in it. I do not want more money than I can even hope to spend in a single lifetime. I would just like to be comfortable.
But this idea--that being rich is the absolute best thing and if you do not become rich, you're a failure--is being pushed on young people (and I think it's mostly pushed on young boys and men) and it's slowly turning brains into rot and it's depressing to see.
the distortion of "there is potential profit we did not earn" as "there is money we lost" is fascinating and disgusting to me. "megamediaconglomerate lost $1,000,000,000 to piracy this year" is a flat out lie. it is not true. they did not have a billion dollars, that they now do not have. they felt entitled to one billion dollars, that they did not have, and still do not have. it's an infuriating perversion of the truth
So, I watched Bridgerton S3 and I have to say although not bad by itself, compared to the previous seasons it's a downgrade.
Some of the biggest writing inconsistencies I noticed for Pen are:
Firstly, in S1, her actions towards Marina (as wrong as they were) could still be understood as her looking out for her friend by not letting him get into a marriage without all the facts. But in this season, she does the exact same thing Marina does, get into an engagement with Colin without revealing her LW identity. This just made her look like a hypocrite.
Secondly, if I remember correctly, in S2 her reasoning for outing Eloise is that the Queen would never believe Pen if she confessed. But in S3 she does exactly that and the Queen not only believes her but also absolves her of all consequences. So, what even was the point of outing Eloise?
Thirdly, Pen's claim that LW tells the truth made me laugh. I don't know why they made her say that. It gave me the ick. She publishes gossip, not truth. It's dangerous to equate the two.
I love Pen as a character. She is flawed, makes mistakes and that makes her interesting. The girlbossification arc with her giving that speech at her sister's ball just did not land for me. Pen struggled with feeling loved and desired, so imo they should have focused on that, instead LW takes the lead and Polin takes a backseat.
The whole Cressida shit show. How am I supposed to not root for her after knowing how she was raised and what circumstances she was facing?
Eloise turning away from her when Cressida needed her the most. That's character assassination of Eloise. It could have been a moment of growth for her. But bad writing strikes again.
Violet and Edmund's first meet parallel with Francesca and Michaela would have been very cute if Michaela had the tongue-tied reaction instead of Fran.
The atrocious costuming! Not asking for accuracy, just maintain the aesthetic established in previous seasons. There's only so far you can stray before it breaks immersion.
It just felt like the show had shifted genres. Previous seasons were romance with a pinch of drama. This season felt like drama with a pinch of romance. I don't know if that makes sense.
I hope Ben's season turns out better.
yes communication is important, but being in a situation where you constantly have to over-communicate every single thing in order to get listened and tended to is draining and kills romance. a huge part of intimacy and connection is feeling seen and understood by the other person – them being attuned to your needs, feelings, desires, and knowing who you are as a person on a deeper level, is a sign of love. being with someone who is thoughtless and inconsiderate and constantly has to have everything spelled out to them, will leave you feeling invisible and unloved. yes people aren’t mind readers and its good to talk about stuff but someone who just doesn’t think of you or understand basic things that would make you happy, isn’t a good partner.
I say shit like "If my memory serves me" knowing damn well it serves the dark lord

I'm about to start a Sejanus Plinth defense squad considering the takes (tm) i have seen on his character.
The reason why Sejanus trusted Snow is because Snow never gave him a reason not to. It is not because he is stupid. Actually I would argue, if we didn't have his internal monologue and we didn't know his future, Coryo's actions before part 3 would make him seem very trustworthy as a friend for Sejanus AND as someone who is willing to defy the Capitol. But we have his internal monologue and Sejanus didn't.
Form Sejanus's point of view, he was bullied as a kid and Coryo was the only one who didn't participate in it.
Coryo was the one who went and met the tributes and climbed with them to the zoo. From Sejanus' point of view, this could be seen as his first act of defiance.
Coryo cheated to save Lucy Gray, the district 12 girl three times. He got expelled because of it, that's literally defying the Capitol.
Sejanus went into the arena to die and Coryo stopped him, putting his own life in danger in the process. Of course he would trust Snow with his life after that.
Snow put on a front. That's the point of the contrast between his extremely unhinged internal monologue and his somewhat heroic action. Lucy Gray fell for it (to a point), Sejanus fell for it , everyone fell for it.
That's not on Sejanus and it doesn't make him stupid.
i'm personally of the opinion that cute animal/pet videos should be presented either with the original sound or muted. i do not like when people add tiktok sounds or soundtracks. end of take.
