Say what you want about BBC Merlin, but none of the actors had to go as hard as they did with their performances. It was a show for kids, the CGI was shite, and on Robin Hood (which was the series before Merlin) no one except Richard Armitage bothered to act as seriously. 

But the fact that they did is what makes it so popular, what makes it endure, what pushes it and its characters and ships up the list in the fandom metrics each year. The actors took it seriously, they left an amazing legacy, particularly Colin Morgan and Bradley James. Even the devastation of the ending couldn’t break the fandom apart because it was sad, but it was so well done you almost didn’t mind. And that’s why a show which ended eight years ago is still so strong in the hearts of so many people.

✨ MERLIN CHALLENGE ✨ : Day 8 (8th): Favourite parallel (Morgana Pendragon vs Arthur Pendragon)

Arthur: So, it's the first week of the new year. How's everyone doing?

Morgana: I crave murder.

Gwaine: I've concocted a drink that lets you go for five full days without sleep!

Elyan: Or so he claims. It has coffee, three different energy drinks, and five shots of espresso.

Merlin, twitching violently: I'VE TESTED IT. IT WORKS.

Gaius: I'm recording the progress of Merlin's slow but inevitable death.

Arthur: I don't really know how to do Christmas. I throw snowballs at the ice skaters down at the lake.

Elyan: That was you?! I almost died!

Gaius: Where's Merlin?

Leon: Doing stuff.

Gaius: I don't like the sound of that. Where's Lancelot, then?

Leon: Trying to stop Merlin from doing the stuff.

Gaius: What? Well, then, where's Gwaine?

Leon: Trying to stop Lancelot from stopping Merlin from doing stuff.

Gaius: And what are YOU doing??

Leon: Stopping you from stopping Gwaine from stopping Lancelot from stopping Merlin from doing the stuff.

Uther: Am I in hell?

Gaius: No, Uther. If you were in hell, you'd be on a throne and the devil would be packing.
