Maybe that’s why Hadestown paints Orpheus in the way it does, because he can’t help but think of how his distraction pushed Eurydice down that path. And that’s why Hermes sings it, because he thinks that maybe even if the story stays the same, he’s still fulfilling Orpheus’ wish for people to know Eurydice.
