Jihye'll be honest: she's a serial 'we've got to meet up soon!'er. God only knows how many unanswered messages on Kakao she has, inbox full of unread plans asking when she's free so they can finally meet up. She doesn't feel much, if any, guilt. Chances are, they're just like her and asking for the sake of asking.
It's not like that with Eunchae, though.
Their friendship thus far's been more support coffee trucks, Kakaotalk messages and Music Bank interviews than real face-to-face time, but they'd finally found a serendipitous spot of overlapping free time to finally meet up. There'd been this perfume-making workshop Jihye'd seen on SNS, and with a minimum 2 pax for a solo class; she'd decided to extend an invite to Eunchae.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry! We ended way later than I thought we would, but luckily traffic wasn't too bad on the way over. Did you wait for long?" Her apologies are profuse and endless, as she makes an impressive hop out of a still-moving taxi.
WE CAN GO WHEREVER YOU LIKE. with ♡, for @sunshinechae's eunchae.
Day blends into night when Jihye's in the studio, with hours passing by in the blink of an eye. She drags herself home when she's physically unable to keep her eyes open, waking up for school and practice hours later, absolutely nothing outside of it in her life.
It's the kind of life she's happy living, though. A pep in her step uncharacteristic of someone as seriously sleep-deprived as her, but that might just be the concerning amount of caffeine she's consuming on the daily.
So of course, she's there before him. Nothing else to live for.
Dance practice lets out early, and she's been in his studio for the past 40 minutes working on the song they'd been slaving over during the night before. Legs crossed on the office chair, blanket over her shoulders, she's quickly gotten comfortable in the space over the past month.
She doesn't even turn to greet him when she hears the door open, just throwing a hand up in greeting. Same hand drops to slide the coffee cup closer to herself, and she raises her eyebrows in surprise when she hears their to-do list for the day. "I'm recording the demo?" Serendipitous, since she'd been working on the toplining.
"I'll send you my bank account details after this, then." Jihye simpers, taking a sip of the coffee in an exaggeratedly cute manner. She's not being serious, of course, considering how much food he's bought them over the course of album prep. Definitely more than enough to cover whatever the demo fee was.
❝ even if everything falls apart don’t lose yourself ‘cause i’ll be there to save you i’ll be there to save you @idlingworship sometime late november, 2018
jihoon feels like he is babysitting. like culture creative just signed him and somewhere between the lines of the contract babysitting was written and he just happened to miss it. at least that was the initial thought that would just come and go whenever he would walk into his studio and see jihye sat on the second chair. the company had promised him his own studio, well.. jihoon insisted his own studio if he was going to be working with them, and if he old lousy company could comply with that, so could culture fucking creative. however, it was still bland, still missed any touch of personality. unless you counted the takeaway boxes and empty coffee cups scattered around.
it does take a while for jihoon to actually open up and be a good senior, a mentor, a friend if you would like. he feels bad that jihye had to witness him this stressed and anxious, swear and yell a few times. it was a big move in his career. a break or make it comeback album. he thinks she understands, but he doesn’t understand why culture creative thought it would be a good idea for this to be a thing now, and not when he has his next comeback or project.
“we are recording a demo today.” jihoon says as he drops a few sheets of paper onto the desk, followed by two coffee’s “this one is with oat milk.” he clarifies by tapping onto the said coffee cup, before turning his attention to one of the desk drawers picking out some coloured pens. “actually, i lied.” he corrects himself “you are recording part of the demo for the feature.” he clarifies as he finally sits down on the chair next to jihye. they had been working on save u for a while now, it was very different from the whole album, but was a great song never the less. so what better way than teach jihye how it’s like to record a demo before sending it out to people who might actually feature the song.
Maybe she's less mysterious than she thinks. Jihye's jaw drops as the second message comes through, feeling strange at how accurate the read was. She spins around to check that the wall behind them's still up, keeping her identity anonymous, and her partner isn't peeking.
[TO: lucky charm] how... did you know....!
[TO: lucky charm] do Es know Is the moment they see them..?!
[TO: lucky charm] mbti at first sight
She's so immersed in the conversation, it takes their desperate waving for Jihye to notice the PDs holding up their sketchbook with the next prompt on it. "Oh, I actually..." She grins. "On the way here I made a playlist of the songs I've been listening to recently." Half of which belong to her. Is it chart fraud if she streams her own songs?
Deciding to look at her partner's playlist before she shows her own, she studies the songs on there carefully and hazards a guess. "I don't know why, but I feel like... it's a girl."
[TO: lucky charm] do you listen to music a lot?
yebin has to stop herself from screaming when her phone lights up with the notification of a text. when she was first told of this shoot, she didn't think much of it, but it was a lot more fun than she expected.
[to: spring breeze] i am an E! [to: spring breeze] what about you? my hunch tells me you're an I because most E's i know don't jump to mbti for a conversation starterㅋㅋㅋ
she didn't even know who was on the other side of the wall, but yebin was already having so much fun. when the producer in front of her asks her if her text is true, she nods. "it's what i've noticed! like i don't think i would have asked this person's mbti right off the bat," she confesses with another chuckle.
the producer puts up her sketchbook with the message show each other your playlists, and so she quickly goes into youtube music and screenshots the last few songs she's listened to. "okay, thankfully, i haven't listened to my own music."
there's a track from her former groupmate as well as other idols. it's a mix and match of a lot of songs, but anybody could tell that she mostly listens to fun, energetic music and kpop.
getting back to all ims and replies now 🫡 but please like this for a pre-plotted starter (if we've plotted enough, i'll get one up! if not, i'll drop into your ims to plot w u!), or reply with a setting/prompt for a quick starter ♡
Hi, Reddit!
I'm Huh Jihye, a member of K-pop group FUTURE/FEMME under Culture Creative. We just made our comeback with 'Kitsch', and I'll be here to answer a few of your questions about what it's like to be a member of FUTURE/FEMME and about K-pop!
How do you keep your head high? Idols often have to deal with lots of criticism, and I can't imagine it's easy dealing with that day in and day out.
good question! i'm extremely lucky to have wonderful people around me, such as my group members, that act as my support system. i don't get hurt easily, so i like to see if it's constructive, then i'll take the criticism and work on myself. if not, then i don't care! if i'm secure in myself and believe i'm the best version of me, then it doesn't matter what others think of me. it only matters what i think of me! you're you, and i'm me!
jihye girl i love u!!! i'm such a big fan of f/f!!! can you share more about 'kitsch' and how you came up with the song? love u miss producer huh x
thank you! i feel like when i was creating it, i wanted it to be really representative of what future/femme's whole message & what we stand for, so a very carefree, youthful, 'i don't care' vibe! there are lots of references to social media platforms and what it's probably like to just be existing in the now as a gen-z. i wanted everyone who listened to be able to feel like they're a cheerful, confident main character in a high-teen movie with no worries! if you're walking down the street and listening to kitsch, you really have to become the main character!
What does a typical day for FUTURE/FEMME look like?
there really is no one typical day! even if we're preparing for a comeback, we all have different schedules and things to work on outside of it, and come together for practice after. for me, it's working in the studio 24/7!
what's your birth time queen
i'll never reveal this.
what's your favourite song you've ever written?
this is so hard to answer... but i have a special soft spot for love u twice! it's sooo personal to me, and so many of you guys have said you relate to it which makes it extra special!💖 i find it so wonderful when you make my songs yours :) it's why i also love good parts, because i want to encourage self-love!
what's your favourite taylor swift era?
off the top of my head, midnights!
what's a song you like to listen to to get your energy up?
antifragile!
top 3 must-haves in your bag? and a tmi!
probably... my phone! that's really a must-have! my headphones, and chocolate! for my tmi, i stayed up til 5am yesterday/today!
[sliding $20 note] any new music in the works...
;) forever n always
your favourite lyric you've ever written, and why?
omggg so many. probably: the bridge of impurities, 'power stronger in adversity, i'm not afraid of the overwhelming shadow, i'll have it all what i desire' good parts' 'i don't wanna blame my weakness, i'll love myself the way i am'! polaroid's entire verse 2. that's it that's the tweet
what's something you'd like to say to you 5 years ago, and you 5 years in the future?
keep going because you'll be glad you did! i hope the 26-year-old jihye will be happy, too.
thanks for all your questions & support, reddit! this has been so much fun, but unfortunately, this is all the time i have. please give lots of support to future/femme's latest comeback, 'kitsch'! 💖
432 words on jihye's thoughts about the antifragile album.
the hydra: starting off very strong, it's a challenge from the very first line. 'do you think i'm fragile?', jihye's credited as the sole producer & lyricist on the track. in line with the theme of the album, 'antifragile', she borrows the title from the greek myth of the lernaean hydra. for every head cut off, the hydra'll grow two more heads in its place. a very direct message to those trying to cut them down for the feminist message of 'tomboy', it's a bold declaration that future/femme are here to stay.
antifragile: their title track! for their first-ever comeback, jihye wanted to cement their voice and message and let everyone know f/f are the ones to watch. with partial production credits, it's a thrilling, upbeat earworm instrumental that sticks around in your head even if you just pass by a store playing it. the lyrics, which jihye co-wrote, are also unabashedly confident, with lines like 'i'll climb higher' showing her greed for success. even if they've been hurt in the past, it's only strengthened them.
impurities: and look, they're not perfect. they've never claimed to be- even if jihye'd like everyone in the world to think otherwise. she co-wrote this one, and for the bridge, possibly one of her favourite lyrics she's ever written, are the lines 'power stronger in adversity / i'm not afraid of the overwhelming shadow / i'll have it all, what i desire / just because it's what i am.' she's the most honest when she makes her art, and this is very much who huh jihye is.
no celestial: very, very special song to her! it's the first full song she's released that's ever been totally hers, in term of both production and lyrics. a little bit contradictory to her actual self/image, the song talks about being imperfect and embracing that, using celestial imagery. cutting off your wings, and falling down to earth with no fear, jihye personally thinks it's the song that describes f/f's the best. whenever asked what her favourite track is, it's this! no competition.
good parts: easy listening, with very straightforward lyrics. jihye's a cowriter, and one of the lines she wrote, 'everything's so blurry, but i hope it's polaroid' is a callback to one of their previous songs off i never die. self-love is easy to write about for her, because jihye loooooves herself, even the less-than-ideal parts. is it a good or bad thing if she's aware that she's not a good person all the time but chooses to keep those bad traits? who knows. she'll love herself regardless.
