“Public Libraries Are Such Important, Lovely Places!” Yes But Do You GO There. Do You STUDY There.

“Public libraries are such important, lovely places!” Yes but do you GO there. Do you STUDY there. Do you meet friends and get coffee there. Do you borrow the FREE, ZERO SUBSCRIPTION, ZERO TRACKING books, audiobooks, ebooks, and films. Have you checked out their events and schemes. Do you sign up for the low cost courses in ASL or knitting or programming or writing your CV that they probably run. Do you know they probably have myriad of schemes to help low income families. Do you hire their low cost rooms if you need them. Have you joined their social groups. Do you use the FREE COMPUTERS. Do you even know what your library is trying to offer you. Listen, the library shouldn’t just exist for you as a nice idea. That’s why more libraries shut every year

i need people to understand that when a person with a chronic illness talks about the fatigue that comes with it, we're not talking about the tiredness that comes from a 10 hour shift at work, we're talking about the inherent exhausting heavy malaise that hangs on your entire body like a weighted blanket from the time you wake up in the morning and doesn't get any lighter as the day goes on.

fatigue doesn't come from exertion. it's just innate- and when it does come from exertion, it's been worse than the innate fatigue that was already there in the first place, and it adds on top of it, not replaces it.

just because my aac device is a phone, doesn't mean it is any less crucial that i have it with me.

just because you understand what it is like to have your phone die. and understand that you've lost access to important text and call communication, as well as photos, bank stuff, social media etc, does NOT mean you get to say you know what it's like when my phone dies.

yeah, your phone has emotional and functional significance to you,

🌹but this is my fucking voice.

“glued to his phone” “so much screen time” "get off your phone and have a real conversation for once"

🌹this is my voice.

Ok

Pov: you are autistic

You got your headphones on. You're playing loud soundtracks from anime/video games/movies etc, you're vibing out, you pretend you're running at bad guys, dragons, monsters, whatever, ready for battle!

BUT!

Somebody WALKS into the same room as you WHILE you are having this vibing stimming moment and you see them, and you feel SO embarrassed like you got caught with your hand stuck in the cookie jar.

Like

Fucking RUDE!!

I was in the MIDDLE of something.

DO

YOU

MIND?!!!!

I don’t know if it’s my autism, but I struggle to understand what they mean because they aren’t actively saying what the word is. Most of the time there are a lot of words that could fit there so how do I actively know which one they mean? I rather people just say what it is so I’m not left guessing.

hot take but censoring words with asterisks and slashes and other non-letter characters is not only useless but in fact actively counterproductive to its goal of preventing ppl from being triggered (also ableist)

Hello world!!

Hello!! I hope to make a lot of friends on this blog and make memories worth sharing.

A little about me:

I'm an old soul, I cherish the little things and believe to be true to one's self. I love and care about everyone, must be why I get hurt easy and a lot. Everything to me is black and white. I am very passionate about motorcycles and art. I love science and health related things, and soon to be double majoring in Biology and Paleontology to attend medical school. I've only had 2 art classes my whole life, other than that I taught myself. I hope to get to know people on here and have a few tumblr best friends.

Much love~

This blog is not participating in the Tumblr "Blackout"

Why? It's the start of Disability Pride month. Much of the systems in society are deliberately hostile to disabled folk, even the ones that are supposed to "help" them. Pride last month around the world held events that weren't accessible for disabled queers. These people are routinely cut out from society, assaulted, harrassed, and treated less than second class. People will physically move people in wheelchairs out of their way, cut them off, and stand in front of them as they try to move. They're shamed, insulted, laughed at, and mocked.

I know many are upset about Tumblrs recent changes, but if you truly want to help increase the accessibility of this site, especially for the sight or hearing impared or those who need to use third party applications to help them navigate the site, then a blackout isn't the way to do it. What you can do is add disability tags to your liked tags, or search up disability tags and see what disabled folk are saying they need from the site and either pay to blaze or come together as a community to amplify their voices and drown out ableists that constantly put them down. Disabled people face unique bigotry and deserve to have their needs blasted to the crowd and actions taken by abled folk to help them in the way they ask to be helped. One of the biggest issues I commonly see is abled folk assuming they know whats best for someone with a disability. If you're not disabled in the way someone else is, never assume you know what their needs are; always ask and listen closely.

This is a link to the proposed blackout and further reasons at the bottom why you shouldn't join this attempt, largely because Tumblr is set up in such a way that a blackout would do nothing but silence disabled voices:

Tumblr
tumblr mobile has seadily become near unusable these past few updates. not just from a user experience perspective (which is important enoug

Do not join the blackout. Go support disabled folk instead. Sit down and listen to them. They've a lot to be angry about, and it's damn time people listened.

put spikes on your wheelchair's handles. wrap barbed wire around your cane or crutch so it'll hurt like a motherfucker if someone kicks or grabs it from under your hand. wear a personal alarm and pull the pin every time someone moves you without your consent, leans on your chair, takes a seat on your rollator, taps your hearing aid, steals your AAC device. scream for help when you're abducted. wail like you're in agony when people trip you up or knock into you. take pepper spray to the grocery store. take a knife to the club. leave cards that say "fuck you" under the wipers of inconsiderately parked cars and scratch access codes for bathrooms on the outside of the door. we are not begging for mercy, we're fighting dirty. we have to.
