"um OP i didn't understand a word of this?" that's because it's not for you. it's for the odd women who live in my phone and they're all giggling and hitting the like button and squeezing my shoulders and saying "another perfect post handsome :)" move along
So I really wanted to share another scene I wrote for the novel I'm working on. Anyway, here goes. -------------------------
On the other side of the city a large man with dark brown skin was lounging shirtless on the living room sofa of his tidy apartment. Every aspect of his appearance was his own, whether it was his tall, heavy-set frame that belied the wall of muscle he’d been steadily building each morning, the couple dozen tight thin locs of hair that held large colored beads at the ends, or the two thin scars mirrored on either side of his firm chest, one beneath each of his pecs. A gentle smile tugged at his lips as his hands rest behind his head. Today was going to be a good day, he could feel it in the air. A knock on his door brought him out of his reverie and the hint of a smile became a wide grin.
It took no time at all for him to walk to the door, grab the bag of steaming takeout that had been left for him, and plop back down on the couch. Today was a day for rest and relaxation, a day to celebrate the small joys of a clean apartment, a good workout, and chinese take out for lunch. Today was a day to scroll through the apps on his personal phone and not work on breaking through the security on the half a dozen system-locked phones sitting on his desk in the neat little office he kept next to his room. Today was his day and if he was going to work on any projects it was going to be for himself. With that in mind, he pulled his food from the bag only for an alert to go off on his phone.
Hey Cal, its Alicia, got a new number. Have you heard from Jay recently?
Caleb’s brow furrowed as he read the text, his food already forgotten.
No. When you two split up didn’t really have anything to say to him.
Yeah, fair.
Why, what’s up?
I sent him a message on Concord a couple days ago but he never responded. I’d text him but I don’t have his number. Do you?
Yeah, I can shoot him a text.
He sighed and leaned back as he scrolled through his contacts, pulling up Jay.
Hey man, Alicia said she hadn’t heard from you in a couple of days. You good?
He set his phone on the couch next to him and opened up his food. Two bites later, he got a text back from Jay.
Help!
How? What’s going on?
I don’t know! Its dark and everything is quiet!
Where are you? I’ll pick you up.
Fear and confusion ran through him as the next message came through, GPS coordinates for an apartment complex on the other side of the city. This wasn’t like Jay at all, regardless of what trouble he might be in.
I’m on my way. I’ll be there in 20 minutes.
As it turned out, today was not going to be a day for rest and relaxation.
Hey so I'm pretty new to tumblr but like... is it normal for people/blogs I've never heard of to be DMing me with donation requests? Cause like... I go check out their blog and it looks mostly legitimate but then they're in my DMs asking for money and I don't know if this is a bot or not.
I'm also in this podcast!
I am being so serious when I say: if you have the financial and time privilege to get a group of friends together and make an indie project, PLEASE do. Indie games, indie animations, indie comics etc etc
the art industries are kind of in the shitter. It’s not so much because of AI (though that doesn’t help) but because studios just aren’t hiring people and funding projects anymore. People who’ve been in the industry for decades are finding themselves struggling, and once you have a mortgage or kids it’s harder to do something as risky as making something on your own.
completing projects is hard. it takes a lot of time and effort, and most people can’t afford it. so if you CAN afford to make art, even at the risk of no financial gain, I strongly encourage you to be as resilient as you can. We’re at a point where these industries are not going to turn around by themselves, and waiting for jobs to open up again in order to get experience and portfolio work might not be realistic.
people have been making art and telling stories longgggg before we were getting paid for it, and people aren’t going to stop just because no one has hired them to do so.
for everyone else: support indie artists when you can!!!! That person who made that cool indie game or youtube animation or webcomic might be doing this full time! your support might be the only reason they’re able to keep doing it.
and if you have already started an indie project: you’re so brave and I’m very proud of you!!! in fact, drop a link to it in the reblogs if you want! 👇

found this video at <2000 likes and i NEED more people to see this because. yeah.
Literally sobbing. A judge, a US judge defended us. A judge brought up intersex people, using the term intersex, to *defend* us by not allowing our erasure. I'm having a lot of feelings right now
Since this blew up considerably, if you would like to help a disabled intersex person afford their medications and transportation to appointments, please consider sending a dollar or two via cashapp to $ElJay777 🥰 Absolutely no pressure, no guilt trips here. Just if you have it to spare and would like to help. Truly inspiring and encouranging to see this post reach so many and have so much love shown, thank you all so much for seeing us and supporting us. It really makes a difference ❤️
Mine was a Reuben at the Falling Sky brewery in Eugene, Oregon back in 2013 when I was attending college classes while homeless. It had been raining and I needed somewhere dry, something to eat, and a place to work on homework so I ordered what turned out to be the best sandwich of my life along with a blackberry mead.
this is so real and never leaves me
After brain uploading is invented, besides the obvious it-runs-doom mimicry ("this guy ran their brain on a blender!") there's probably gonna be people transferring their mind around in silly ways.
Like the first person to copy themselves into a new robot body over dial-up.
YouTube video: "Copying my mind onto a new server using only 3.5" floppy disks". The thumbnail is a grey metallic android holding up a big pile of colorful floppy disks.
I'm of the opinion that both candidates should have been disqualified for different reasons on each. (That said, Biden is absolutely better than trump if just because he's less likely to try and abolish our civil rights.) On Trump's side there's literally all of the crime. He's been impeached twice, has connections to a failed insurrection, and is now a convicted felon. He should be disqualified hands down. On the Biden side, putting aside age or mental wellness (cause those are touchy issues and I don't know how I feel there), honestly I don't think former vice presidents or immediate family members of former presidents should be allowed to run for president.
Now... all of that aside what we really need is Ranked Choice Voting and the abolition of the Electoral College. I think those two things would cause a significant positive change in US Politics
We're all fucked.
there have been 774664 studies on basic income and the results of every single one have been “wow! we gave people money and literally everything improved! crime rates are down! the actual sky is bluer! my (the researcher’s) wife decided not to leave me after all!” but these have all been short studies, just a couple years. i think what’s really missing from the field is a proper long form study, with a broader, bolder demographic, to really get us those numbers we need. a truly diverse study pool like, say, everyone. forever
