I love and hate the ending because it’s exactly what should happen. Aziraphale has a toxic relationship with heaven and people in those relationships for long time(think like … eternity) can’t just *leave* like that. There’s a mental hold that has you always wanting to please in anyway you can. If there’s a way to make them happy, even when you know the things they’ve done, it’s almost a need to do so. Especially if they make you think you can change something. I can guarantee the self sacrifice he was taught was repeating in his head when he told the Metatron there wasn’t anything and straightened up.

Do you ever think about how they took Newt's body with them on the Berg? They picked him up from where he died, carried him onto the Berg. Minho laid his jacket over Newt like a blanket. After they rescue Thomas from the roof and pull him on board, they place him right next to Newt.

Newt and Thomas lie side by side on the Berg, Newt's hand in Thomas' hand. In his shock he forgot that Newt is dead, can't process it. Thomas wonders how peaceful Newt looks while war and fires are raging around them. That's the last thing he can remember before unconsciousness hits him, wondering why Newt's hand is so cold in all the heat around them
