Walking around an outlet with your arm around Tangerine's bicep was something you've been wishing for since the day he left for work. Which was 3 days ago, but he came back yesterday, had a day off and now you were strolling around the mall. A woman mumbled something, sprayed a tester fragnance on a piece of paper and handed it to you.
"Thank you" You smiled at her as you walked by them. You brought it up to your nose and smelled it, it smelled amazing. You brought it up to Tangerine's nose and he breathed it in and nodded.
"You want it?" He asked looking down at you, you glare at him and shook your head. You passed the paper over your shoulder.
"Oooh it smells great, I'm gonna save it for my girl" Lemon smiled and put it in his little fanny pack.
"Why didn't you bring her along?" You asked as you guys entered a store.
"She has a stupid work thing" Lemon grumbled.
"Oh I know how that feels" You sighed glacing at Tangerine and he rolled his eyes playfully. You looked into a glass case and looked at the rings then looked back at the ring on your left hand. Nothing could beat the huge piece of diamond on the thing. Tangerine followed your vision into the glass case and tried to find the ring you were looking at. You grabbed his bicep and dragged him to the escalator that led to the mens section.
"Time to get you a new suit" You smiled up at him, he looked down at you and furrowed his brows.
"What for?" He asked.
"You absolutely totaled your blue one on your last trip" You shook your head in disbelief.
"Is that really the reason why we're getting me a new suit?" He smirked slightly as you reached the top and hopped off the escalator. You pursed your lips and looked around the store.
"You looked hot in that suit" You shrugged and avoided his gaze.
"Is that so?" He teased as he tried to make you look at him, he grabbed your chin softly and lifted it to look you in the eye. You tried to hide your smile.
"We'll go to Victoria's Secret after this and you can customise me like a Build-a-Bear" You smiled sneakily, his smirked dropped for a second at the thought and came back into a much more mischievous one.
"Deal" He said as he placed his lips on yours, you smiled into the kiss.
"GOD T-M-I GUYS!" Lemon groaned as he started walking -more stomping- the other way towards the luggage section.
"Why is he even with us" Tangerine complained as he watched his brother walk away, he snapped his head back to you when he felt a small slap to his chest.
"Don't say that" You glared at him and grabbed his hand and walked further into the fitting room where there was a tailor waiting for customers.
-
He fixed the cuff links and stared at himself in the mirror as the tailor was fixing the suit from his back. You swung your legs as you eyed him up and down.
"I feel very objectified" Tangerine said looking away from the mirror and at you once the tailor walked away and gave him the clear.
"I was going for that" You smiled at him and got up from your seat and walked towards him, he rolled his eyes and shook his head and his gaze went back to the mirror. You looked at the mirror and saw the both of you. You put a hand on his chest and smooth out his under shirt.
"You look good" You smiled and went on your toes and kissed his cheek. He wrapped his arm around your waist. He turned his head and looked at you, he placed his lips on yours. You pulled away, to which he frowned at.
"We should go find Lemon and get mac n' cheese" You smiled at him innocently. He chuckled.
"Anything for you" he smiled and kissed your forehead.
-
You were smiling at the baby at the table beside you, making a mess of herself as she ate. The thump of a plate hitting the table broke you out of your trance. You smiled at Tangerine as he took his seat beside you and opposite of Lemon who was taking a picture of his food, probably sending it to his girl.
"What were you looking at?" He asked as he wiped his utensiles with a napkin. The man was usually covered in sweat and blood, somehow feels the need to wipe down a utensil that was most definitely washed. You nodded to the baby you were looking at, a faint smile on your lips.
"Dirty little thing isn't it?" He asked as he watched the baby make a mess of herself.
"Messes will always go away" You tusked, still smiling at the baby. He glanced at you and then the baby and hummed and started eating. You turned back and started eating as well.
"What'd you get?" You asked Lemon glancing at the huge bag next to him.
"I got this briefcase for our next job" He explained as he wiped off something from the corner of his mouth with a napkin.
"Sorry, next job?" You asked, slightly raising your voice. Lemon looked up confused and looked at Tangerine who was glaring at him and shaking his head. Lemon made an 'o' shape with his mouth but nothing came out. He glanced at Tangerine, at you, back at Tangerine then back at you then suddenly threw his fork onto the floor.
"Oh look at that, it's dirty now, I better get another one" He laughed nervously and scurried off his seat and walked to the counter, making small talk with the waiter hopefully to buy some time.
"You just got back" You said and turned in your seat to face him.
"I- I know, it's just that they're offering a shit tonne of money, and we... could use it" Tangerine shrugged as if that excuse made sense.
"Oh fuck that, you've got enough money to get your great grandchildren through college" You groaned and glared at him.
"We, you know I hate it when you refer to our money as my money" He said softly.
"Ohh trust me, I know, that's why I said it" You hissed at him.
"Love I'm sorry, Lem just came up to me and told me abo-" He tried to explain
"Tan you just got back, you always do this! Maybe this time don't bother coming back" You whisper yelled at him and got up and picked your bag up.
"Love..." Tangerine sighed as he tried to grab your elbow, but you shoved his hand away.
"I'm going to Victoria's Secret and you're not coming" You said glaring at him and walking away. Tan let out a big sigh and rubbed his face in his hands.
"Tough crowd eh?" Lemon sighed as he sat back down. Tangerine removed his hands from his face and glared at him.
"How was I supposed to know you didn't tell her?" Lemon glared at him and crossed his arms in front of his chest.
-
You were looking at a lace robe when you felt a soft hand on your back. You were gonna turn around and smack the guy but a whiff of an all too familiar cologne flies by your nose and you relax. You purse your lips as you felt him hug you from the back and put his head on your shoulder, looking at your side profile. You didn't acknowledge him.
"You'd look hot in that" Tangerine stated and softly kissed your neck. You didn't answer and slowly walked to the perfume aisle, Tangerine following behind you with his arms around your waist. You grab a tester and spray it onto a piece of paper and bring it up to your nose to smell it. This time you go to throw it away instead of giving it to Tangerine to smell. He softly grabs your hand before you throw it and brings it up to his nose and sniffs it, then lets go of your hand to throw it away.
"You didn't eat" He said as you started walking to the bra section, looking at the new arrivals. Again, no answer. He nuzzled his face into your neck and sighed deeply.
"I'm sorry" He mumbled into your neck. Your lips curved up slightly into a small smirk, barely noticeable. He was always too proud to apologise.
"Hmm?" You hummed as you grabbed a display babydoll lingerie, black, just how he liked it. He sighed again and lifted his head only to see what you were holding. He paused slightly and took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry" He said more clearly now, looking at the lingerie you were holding. You smiled as you felt him hug you closer. Feeling something in his pocket, and it was not his gun.
"What do you think of this?" You asked and turned your head to look at him, referring to the lingerie in your hand. He cleared his throat and subtly thrusts his hips into your back.ย
"It's nice" He answered simply. You hide a smirk.ย
"Hmm" You hummed and bent down to open the drawer to look for your size. You were bent so that your bum was in front of him. It would look like a cute innocent scene to others, but you both knew that cute and innocent went out the window when you walked into the store. You picked your size and stood up properly and he shoved his face into your neck. Trying to hide his flushed face.ย
"Where's Lem?" You asked, completely ignoring his apology and walked around the store to torture him more. He kept his front stuck to your back to save himself the embarrassment.ย
"His bird's meeting ended so he left to get her, she's coming here" He mumbled, trying not to groan as you stopped abruptly making his hard on push into your bum.ย
"At least someone misses their girl" You mumbled to yourself, but he obviously heard because he was close to you. He sighed soflt.y
"Baby of course I miss you when I'm away" He groaned and lifted his head from your neck to look at the side of your face. You walk to the counter seeing that the line was empty and put everything you wanted to buy on the counter and smiled at the lady behind the counter. Tangerine stopped talking so it wouldn't interupt your interaction with the lady.ย
"That's all for today?" She asked and smiled as she took the black lace set and looked for the price tag.ย
"Yes please" You smiled at her and pulled out your wallet from you bag but Tangerine grabbed your hand before you could. He let go of your waist for the first time since he started and went for his back pocket. The lady behind the counter watched the whole interaction, trying not to smile. You slaped Tan's hand off your hand and grabbed your wallet to take your card out.ย
"No stop it" Tangerine glared at you, hurrying to take his card out.ย
"Take this one" You gave your card to the lady with a smile, she catched the huge diamond ring on your finger and understood that you guys were married.ย
"No put that down, take this one" Tangerine said and snatched your card away from the lady and handed her his card. She let out an awkward chuckle and looked at you to see what you said. You groaned and snapped your head toย your husband.
"God Tan, I'm angry at you, let me be angry!" You hissed and glared at him.ย
"Be angry at me by using my card!" He argued back, softly, he never raised his voice at you, which really contrasted with how he was at work.ย
"I- I just need one card for this to get paid" The lady smiled awkwardly. You turned back to her and smiled.
"I'm sorry love, use my card" You smiled at her and slid your card closer to her. She nodded and to grab it but before she could Tangerine snatched it and put it in his wallet.ย
"Now you've got to use mine the whole day" He turned to you and gave a look that screamed that he won. You rolled your eyes at him. The lady looked at you and you gave her a small nod telling her to use his card.ย
"I just won't buy anything for the rest of the day" You shrugged and smiled at the lady as she handed you your victoria's secret bag. She glanced at Tangerine's defeated face and tried not to laugh. He grabbed his credit card from her and his head went back to your neck, arms around your waist.
"I apologise for whatever this was" You smiled at her.
"No it's completely fine" She smiled back at you and you started walked out with Tangerine right behind you, his arms still around you, trying to calm his boner down.ย
"Where's Lem and his girl?" You asked as you took your phone out and checked the time.ย
"I think he said they were meeting at the entrance near the big christmas tree" He murmered into you neck. You nodded and put your phone back into your bag, and started walking towards the entrance, Tangerine following right behind you.
"I've got to use the loo" You said and stopped right in front of the doors that said restroom. You gave him your bag and went in. Tangerine stood there with your bag, he put it on his shoulder and leaned against a wall, picking at his cuticles. You looked at yourself in the mirror of the bathroom. You didn't really have to use the loo, you just needed some space from him to see how you were going to handle the argument.ย
You splashed some water on your face and sighed into your hands. You stared at yourself in the mirror again and leaned closer to get rid of the little pieces of mascara that had falled out. You were wearing waterproof mascara but it still managed to come out. You thought back at Tangerine.ย
You had to be honest with yourself, you hated his job. You knew he was the good guy, but the fact that he was risking his life and one day he might not make it back home to you. That scared you. You couldn't imagine a life without him in it, you didn't even know how you functioned properly before you met him. He was your source of energy, you needed him to breathe. But you couldn't ask him to stop, he already did so much for you, and this job is all he's ever known, well and Lemon.ย
You sighed again and grabbed a paper towel to wipe off your hands. You make your way out.ย
"Ah you're back" Tangerine said, his ehad snapping up right away when he heard the door open, and eyes relaxing when he saw you. You smiled at him softly, it wasn't like you could be angry at him for too long. His eyes alone would make you forgive him even if he had just stabbed a knife into you, in fact you would turn the knife inside of you if that's what he wanted. He puts his elbow out for you and you wrapped your arm around his bicep. You walked around the store, to where Lemon said he would be.ย
"Hi!" You smiled at Lemon's girlfriend, rather new girlfriend. They started dating 3 weeks ago but Lemon didn't want her to meet you and Tangerine, he was scared you would scare her away. She turned to look at you as you greeted her. Lemon turned too and gave you and Tangerine a nervous smile.ย
"Ah, Veda, this is my brother, Tangerine, and this is my sister, Y/n" Lemon introduced, turning his nead to nod at Tangerine then at you. She looked at each of you and smiled.ย
"Guys, this is Veda" He turned to you and his brother and gave the both of you a stern look, but with a smile on his face.ย
"It's nice to meet you Veda" Tangerine smiled at her politely and nodded at her slightly.ย
"Hi Veda! I've been meaning to meet you for so long now" You let go of Tangerine bicep and went to her to hug her, she hugged back and let out a little chuckle.ย
"Let me guess, Lemon went against it?" She joked as you pulled away from the hug.ย
"Oh yeah, but trust me, all this man talks about is you and Thomas the Tank Engine" You joked as you rubbed her arm trying to get her to not think too much about it. She glanced at Lemon and he gave her a sheepish smile.ย
"So I've got competition now huh?" Veda joked as she looked back at you.ย
"Oh yeah, big time" You played along with her and pulled completely away from her and went back to Tangerine.ย
"You guys are brothers?" Veda asked and pointed between Tangerine and Lemon. Probably confused, she probably knew Lemon had a brother named Tangerine, but she probably didn't expect Tangerine.ย
"It's a complicated history" Tangerine said and wrapped an arm around your waist to pull you closer. Your bag and the Victoria's Secret bag on his other arm. Veda made an understanding sound and nodded but then eyed Tangerine's arm around your waist.ย
"Aren't you guys siblings?" She asked suspiciously.ย
"No, God no!" You said, slightly laughing and shaking your head.ย
"But he said sister, and if Lem and Tangerine are brothers then..." She said trying to piece things together.
"Oh! I meant sister-in-law, they're married" Lemon quickly corrected himself.ย
"Ohhh" Veda said and noded. You showed her your left hand and the ring on your finger. her eyes widened and her lips turned upside down in amusement. She looked back up at you and nodded in amusement, aproving of the size of the diamond on the ring.ย
"I'm sorry, I was so confused" She laughed, trying to make it less awkward.ย
"Oh no it's fine, it's Lem's fault anyway" You shrugged it off. Tangerine smiled at her trying to assure her that he wasn't offended and Lemon scrunched his brows at you.ย
"Okay enough blaming, are you guys done shopping?" He said rolling his eyes and turning his head to you and Tangerine. You looked up at him and he looked at you.ย
"I'm done" Tangerine shrugged, you looked at Lemon and nodded.ย
"Aren't you guys gunna shop?" You asked, your eyes going between Veda and Lemon. Lemon looked at Veda and she shook her head.ย
"I'm tired after the suprise visit from a patient at work, I just want to take a nap" She shrugged.ย
"Okay, let's go home then" You said and looked at Tangerine. He opened your bag and searched for the car keys.ย
"Wait! I have to piss" Lemon said and left for the restroom. Tangerine rolled his eyes.
"Why does he always have to take a piss when we're all ready to go" Tangerine groaned softly.ย
"I honestly have to go too, sorry" Veda said awkwardly and hustled into the restroom.ย
"Match made in heaven I guess" You chuckled and watched her figure rush to the restroom. Tangerine chuckled and pulled you closer to him. You looked around the store while Tangerine pulled his phone out because he got a notification. You saw a store filled with baby clothes.ย
"Aww" You hummed and walked towards the store and looked at the tiny clothes on display. You picked one up and it was so tiny it made your heart want to burst into pieces. Tangerine sighed as he read over the email he had gotten, it was about the job he was going to go on. Apparently it postponed. He put his phone back into your bag and looked at your back, seeing you by the baby clothes. He walked up behind you and wrapped his arms around your waist and put his chin on your shoulder, looking at what you were looking through.ย
"Are you trying to tell me something?" He jokingly asked and gave you a weird look. You rolled your eyes with a smile on your face.ย
"I wish" You joked and picked a shirt up. Tangerine's gaze turned from joking to serious.ย
"Look it's you" You said smiling, Tangerine turned his head to look at the onesie you were holding. It had a little orange on it.ย
"That's an orange, love" He said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. You tusked and rolled your eyes.ย
"Tomato, tomato" You rolled your eyes and put the onesie down. You picked another one up and laughed.ย
"Oh look this one actually has a tomato on it. Oh look at that, with a little face too" You laughed as if it was the funniest thing in the world. Tangerine shook his head with a smile on his face as he watched you laugh. The sound of your laugh was better than any other sound he's ever heard. Your laugh was contagious, made him want to laugh too. He chuckled softly and took the onesie away from you and folded it and put it back on the rack. You calmed down and leaned into Tangerine.ย
"I want one" You whispered to him, slightly hoping he wouldn't hear you. He turned slightly to look at your face to see if you were joking or not, but your face was serious. You were staring at the little mannequin of the baby with a suit on.ย
"You guys are matching" You said and pointed at the mannequin. He turned his head to the mannequin. He let out a genuine laugh to see the little tie and the suit. You smacked his bicep softly.
"It's cute" You laughed as well.ย
"Alright I think that's enough, you're hungry and delirious" Tangerine laughed slightly and pulled you away from the store.ย
"Oh please, I'll be fine" You rolled your eyes but let him guide you away from the store, lowkey glad that he did because if you were there any longer you could've sworn your ovaries would have exploded.ย
"You're going home and you're eating" Tangerine said as he started making his way to the doors when he saw both Veda and Lemon make their way out of the restroom. You gasped all of the sudden.ย
"Where's my mac n' cheese?!" You said gasping, now very concerned about your lunch.ย
"It's in the car my love" Tangerine said bluntly and took his car keys out of your bag as you made your way closer to the car. You sighed and turned to Tangerine as you came to a stop.ย
"I love you" You said and looked at him in all seriousness.ย
"Weren't you angry at me a few minutes back?" He asked, teasing you and raised an eyebrow at you as he clicked on the button on his car keys to unlock the car. He opened the car door for you and helped you get in.
"Yeah you still haven't apologised" You rolled your eyes as you let him fasten your seatbelt for you. He gave you a side eye as he put the seatbelt into the buckle, he leaned back slightly to look at your face and gave you a look. You looked away to the drivers seat to avoid his gaze. He smiled softly and grabbed your chin to make you turn to him.ย
"I'm sorry" He said sincerely and looked deeply into your eyes. His eyes told you everything you needed to know. So blue and clear, every single emotion he felt, it never showed on his face but his eyes would always give it away. You pursed your lips and squinted ur eyes at him.ย
"What exactly are you sorry for?" You tilted your head slightly. He rolled his eyes but the small smile on his lips stayed.ย
"I'm sorry for not telling you about the next job" He said, his hand now on your cheek and his eyes boring onto yours.ย
"I guess I forgive you" You shrugged. He chuckled slightly and shook his head ever so lightly.ย
"I love you" He said softly and put his lips onto yours. You didn't kiss him back, trying to fight the smile off your face.ย
"You know we're gunna stay like this until you kiss me ba-" He started but you cut him off by kissing him back. The smile on your face now very evident and unabashed. He smiled into the kiss. You pulled away when you heard the doors on the car open. His forehead was on yours and you look at him, his eyes were slightly closed.ย
"You better hurry up and drop them off" You whispered slightly, with a small smirk on yourself.ย
"Unless you don't want to see that lingerie on me" You shrugged, talking in a very low voice, making sure the couple in the back didn't hear you. They couldn't because they were talking about something as Lemon opened the door for Veda. His eyes snapped open and he traced his tongue along his cheek. He stood back up and shut the door and quickly got into the drivers seat.ย
"Will you two lovebirds hurry up" He said as he buckled his seat belt and turned the engine on. You leaned back into your seat and smiled to yourself.ย
"Calm your tits" Lemon hissed at him and closed the door for Veda and got to other side of the car and got in.ย
"Who's place first?" Tangerine asked and rotated in his seat slightly and put a hand behind your seat to look behind. You watched his movements and put your right leg on top of your left and squeezed them together slightly. Veda and Lemon looked at each other as if they were talking to each other telapathically.ย
"My place" Lemon anwered Tangerine.ย
"So our place?" Tangerine asked as he put the car in driving mode again and started driving out of the parking lot. We lived in the same building and your apartment was right above Lemon's.ย
"You guys live together?" Veda raised an eyebrow, looking between Tangerine and Lemon only because they were in her view and she was sat right behind you.ย
"No no, same apartment building" Lemon replied. Tangerine let out a small laugh and put a hand on your thigh as he drove with one hand.ย
"Wait you've been dating 3 weeks and he hasn't had you over yet?" You asked and you turned your head slightly to make conversation.ย
"We're taking it slow, unlike you guys, fucking on the first date" Lemon rolled his eyes. Veda's eyes widened and looked at you and Tangerine with an expression.ย
"We did not do that on the first date" You rolled your eyes back at him.ย
"Ehhh..." Tangerine made a sound that disagreed with you, you smacked his forearm that was holding onto your thigh.ย
"We didย not." You hissed at him and then turned back to Veda and shook your head.
"We didn't, we just made out and this one went running to his only best friend to brag about it" You said and nodded towards Tangerine and rolled your eyes. Veda let out a laugh.ย
"I have other friends!" Tangerine glanced at you then quickly back to the road. This was all friendly fire, and you knew he didn't take any offence since his hand was still on your thigh, in fact it was sliding up to where it shouldn't be in public. You slapped his hand hard, but soft enough so that it doesn't make a sound. He slowly pulled away but kept his hand on your thigh.ย
"Yeah? Name one friend, who is not Lemon" You challenged him. He stopped the car at a red light and turned to look at you.ย
"You" He smiled cheekily. You smirk dropped and you gave him a blunt look.ย
"He's got a point" Lemon laughed, making Veda fall into a fit of giggles.ย
"I set you up for success" You glare at him and he just smiled at you.ย
"The light's green" Lemon said calming down from his laughter slightly, Tangerine turned back to the front and started driving again. Once the soft laughter died down, Veda spoke up.ย
"Tangerine, what do you do for a living?" She asked. You scrunched your brows and glanced at him, trying not to turn your head and make it obvious. He glanced at you too and looked at the rearview mirror to see Lemon's face. Lemon shook his head slightly, almost not noticeable.ย
"Um I'm in business" He answered simply, nodding his head slightly. You nodded your head as well to his answer.ย
"Oh so you and Lem are like partners?" She asked looking at Lemon and then back at Tangerine.ย
"Uh yea summat" Tangerine shrugged.ย
"That's cool, what about you Y/n?" She asked and turned her head.ย
"Oh I'm a software architect" You answered and leaned back into your seat.ย
"Oooh" Veda nodded and looked out the window.ย
"What do you do Veda?" You asked, wanting to continue the conversation as Tangerine pulled down the window to tap his card on the gate so he could get into the building.ย
"I'm a dentist" Veda said. You nodded your head but then put things together in your head.
"Wait Lem, so the stupid work thing you said she had, she was attending to a patient?" You asked turning in your seat.ย
"What?! I didn't say stupid work thing, I just said work thing" Lemon defended himself as Tangerine parked in the usual spot. Veda eyed him, and Lemon smiled sheepishly at her. Tangerine turned car off, got out of the car and walked over to the other side to open your door.ย
"Sorry, I mean to be fair, you spend your time looking at teeth" Lemon shrugged, Veda shook her head with a smile.ย
"It's interesting" She shrugged. You let out a laugh as Tangerine unbuckled your seatbelt for you and helped you of the car. Veda tried to open her door but Tangerine softly shut it back before she could open it fully, Lemon walked over and opened Veda's door for her and she gave the twins a weird look. Tangerine grabbed your bag for you and gave it to you.ย
"You guys go into the building, we'll bring the things in" Lemon said and went to the boot of the car and helped Tangerine get the things that was brought today. You walked up to Veda and wrapped your arm around her arm and guided her to the door that was linking the building to the parking lot.
"You look shocked, what's up?" You asked as you dug into your bag for your card to tap on the door to enter.ย
"They're so... they're such gentlemen" She said, as if she's never seen a man act the way they did before. You laughed at her expression and pushed the door open.ย
"Funny to be honest, their childhood was rough" You said smiling to yourself.ย
"We won the jackpot if you ask me" You shrugged and waited by the elevators for them, not clicking on the button so that you could click when they were here.ย
"Rough childhood you say?" She asked raising an eyebrow. You pursed your lips and tilted your head, contemplating if you should tell her. If she was going to be here for a while, she might as well know, but it was not your story to tell.ย
"Lem will tell you when he's ready, might be today, might be a few months from now, but I have no right to say anything" You answered, shrugging slightly. She nodded, understanding where you were coming from.ย
"How long did it take Tangerine to tell you?" She asked and you saw both men walking to the door, they were talking about something as they made their way to the door.ย
"About a year, he is stoic as fuck" You laughed, she laughed as well.ย
"You got the more emotional twin, I got the cold one" You joked as you watched them enter the door, Veda turned her head and watched both of them.ย
"I love him to death" You smiled slightly, she turned her head slightly to look at you, only to see your eyes full of love as you watched your man walk towards you. You looked back to the elevator doors and pushed the button. Right before they walked into your earshot you pulled her closer to you.ย
"Hurt him and Iย willย ruin you" You threatened her softly, but pulled away from her slowly and smiled at her sweetly. She looked at you kind of scared.ย
"He's my brother, and he's been hurt before" You said, justifying your need to threaten her. She nodded.ย
"Trust me, that's the last thing I would do" She reassured you and nodded slightly. You nodded and you eyed her. The elevator door opened and you walked in with her, Tangerine and Lemon rushed in as well. Tangerine had his new suit in a garment bag in his hands, the victorias secret bag and your mac n' cheese. Lemon had the suitcase he brought and a little packet that had something special in it. You pressed on the buttons with the numbers 7 and 8 on them.ย
"What were you guys talking about?" Lemon asked.ย
"Periods" Veda panicked and answered. Lemon gave her a weird look, Tangerine turned to look at you.ย
"What? She said what she said" You shrugged, Tangerine put his hands up in defense.ย
"We didn't say anything" He said defensively. You eyed him, you were so ready to jump him, he looked so delicious with his suit and his gelled back hair which had some curls sticking out. The elevator came to a stop and the doors opened on the 7th floor. Lemon grabbed Veda's hand and guided her out of the elevator.ย
"Bye guys" Veda turned around and smiled at you and Tangerine, mostly at you. Tangerine gave her a soft smile and nodded his head. You smiled back at her.ย
"Bye love" You said and Lemon pulled her away to his apartment. The doors closed and you let out a sigh.ย
"What were you guys actually talking about?" Tangerine asked you as he looked at you up and down. He too couldn't wait to touch you. All he wanted to do was push you against the wall and make you feel good.ย
"Nothing you should worry about" You smiled up at him, you pulled him closer to you and went on your tip toes to kiss his lips. He kissed you back but pulled away.ย
"You're gunna make me drop everything" He rasped, his breath fanning your lips. You grabbed the Victoria's Secret packet and moved away from him and walked out the elevator, you times it perfectly with the elevator door opening and walked to your door and took your key out to unlock it as Tangerine made his way to you. You unlocked the door and opened it and made your way in. Tangerine followed suit and closed it shut quickly, he went up to the sofa to drop everything and placed the mac n' cheese on the coffee table. You bet down to unbuckle the straps on your boot heels, taking your time to tease him. He came up behind you, his front right on your butt, trying to release some type of tension.ย
"Love, please" He groaned slightly as he bucked his hips onto yours softly. You hummed and still took your time.ย
"For fucks sake" He sighed and held your hips and sat you down on the little stool beside the shoe rack, went down on his knees and unbuckled your shoes as quickly as he could for you, once he finally slid both boots off, he grabbed the Victoria's Secret packet and picked you up, throwing you over his shoulder and made his way to the bedroom. You laughed at his neediness. He threw you softly onto the bed and got on top of you, putting his lips onto yours.ย
"Mmm Tan" You mumbled, trying keep up with the peace of his lips. Your hands went to his hair, making his slicked back hair messy. You legs slowly wrapped around his hips, he bucked his hips slightly and you moaned into his mouth.ย
"Baby" You mumbled against his lips, you pulled away slightly, he tried to put his lips back on yours but you pulled back even more. He groaned softly.ย
"Whaaat" He panted, whining almost. You let out a small laugh.ย
"The lingerie?" You asked raising an eyebrow. He groaned, and thought about it, biting his lip. It looked like he was thinking hard as if his life depended on it. You rolled your eyes and rolled so now you were on top of him.ย
"I'll be quick" You smiled cheekily as him and got off, grabbed the bag and made your way to the restroom. He groaned and tried to grab onto you before you left but you were too quick. You quickly stripped and put on the lingerie. It was a simple black lace babydoll and a black thong. You quickly grabbed your perfume and sprayed yourself and some lotion to rub on your legs and arms. You opened the door again and saw Tangerine on the bed, deep in thought again.ย
"What? Are you regretting buying me this lingerie?" You teased as you walked to him, he snapped out of his thoughts and stared at you in awe. The buldge in his pants grew, he visibly swallowed.ย
"You're going to kill me one day" He groaned and softly palmed himself through his pants. You laughed at the state of him, his once slicked back and neat hair all over the place, his face flushed red, the top 4 buttons on his shirt already unbuttoned, and his suit already scattered somewhere. You slowly walked your way to the bed and straddled his lap, leaning forward and putting your lips onto his. He held onto your hips and kissed you back, much softly than before. He shifted slightly and rolled you so he was on top now. You wrapped your legs around his hips and you arms went around his neck, one hand in his hair and the other on his back, rubbing his tense muscles. You furrow your brows and pulled away from the kiss. He let out a loud frustrated sigh and put his forehead onto yours.ย
"Love if you keep edging me on I feel like I'm gunna die" He groaned and exaggerated. You rolled your eyes and the hand that was on his back slid down to his chest.ย
"What's wrong?" You asked him genuinely. He furrowed his brows and eyed you.ย
"What'd'you mea-?" He asked but you cut him off.ย
"Don't play it off like it's nothing. What's bothering you?" You asked and used your elbows to sit up slightly. Tangerine sighed and sat up slightly, still on top of you.ย
"I don't know" He said trying to do exactly what you told him not to do. You raised an eyebrow.
"It's just... were you serious about the whole baby thin' from before?" He asked you genuinely. It caught you off guard. You stammered.ย
"I- um, I mean yeah, we're married, we're very much stable financially, I like where we are relationship wise, unless you don't, do you think we're unstable?" You asked, suddenly overthinking. His eyes widened and he shook his head vicariously.
"No no, God no, I think we're great" He said quickly, trying to reassure you. You nodded slightly.ย
"Well then why not?" You shrugged, looking up at him with big eyes. He let out a breath neither you or he knew he was holding.ย
"Thank fuck" He sighed in relief.ย
"But if you're going to be away half the time, I don't want to" You said, suddenly remembering what he does for a living.ย
"I promise, it'll go down by a half" He reassured you again, you pursed your lips and glared at him but a small smile crept up onto your lips. You put yours lips back onto his and smiled, his lips turned upwards as well.ย
"I love you" You mumbled into the kiss. He pulled away from the kiss softly.ย
"I love you more, but we better get started" He said and started kissing your neck, making his way down your body to where you needed him most. You hands went back to his hair and you lifted your head to look at him.ย
"This is not how you make a baby" You laughed slightly, watching him trace over the lace on your thong. He grabbed the elastic part of it and snapped it against your skin making your jump slightly at the sharp contact.ย
"No, but it's a great way to start" He smirked and bit down on the elastic pulling it down with his teeth.ย

โDavie babyโ You said happily as you jumped onto the sofa next to him while he was playing a video game with two of his best friends on the TV with his gaming console. Daveโs head turned before his eyes got to you.ย
โYes, my loveโ He answered, his attention on you instead of the game now. You smiled,
โI was thinking we watch a movie tonight, tomorrowโs a holiday and we can have a little movie date nightโ You smiled at him as you suggested the idea. He smiled at the enthusiasm in your voice and was about to reply but someone had said something in his headset, making him turn to the TV.ย
He bit his lip softly, and turned back to you with a guilty expression on his face. Your smile faltered slightly and you purse your lips and tilt your head to the side, you knew either Todd or Marty had asked to play a few more rounds.ย
And Dave was a people pleaser, he gave you a guilty look, and opened his mouth to say something but you beat him to it.ย
โIโll heat the popcorn and get the chips ready while you play a few more rounds?โ You asked and shrugged. His eyes held the guilt and his lips turned into a sorry smile.ย
โYou are the bestโ He said simply, pecking your forehead quickly before turning to the TV, you rolled your eyes with a sad smile on your face, got up and walked to the kitchen to get the snacks ready.ย
You understood why he wanted to play a few more rounds with his friends, he had been busy these past few weeks, his engineering internship and with his college classes, he had been booked, but now with thanksgiving break, he had gotten the chance to take a break.ย
He had wasted the first Saturday and Sunday finishing up remaining work and packing his bags, then he spent the next five days at his parents house, visiting them for thanksgiving. You would have gone with him to visit your family too, but your boss didnโt let you.
Especially since restaurants were very busy during Thanksgiving time, and he needed you to work double the shifts โ he did pay you extra and give you free turkey to take home. He was a nice boss, he even let you take home a small bottle of the finest wine in the restaurant for Thanksgiving day.ย
You had spent the holiday alone in your apartment, Dave had called you late at night when he was in bed, ready to go to sleep just to catch up with you, but the call only lasted 5 or 10 minutes before he started snoring through the phone. His snores cut you off, and you ended the call, calling it a night yourself.ย
You had woken up to 5 texts from him apologising for falling asleep and promising to spend all his time with you when he was back. Now that he was back, he wasnโt really doing that. You take the popcorn out of the microwave and pour it into a big bowl for the both of you to share.

Tangerine was going over a few papers in his folder when he felt his phone buzz on the counter. He picked his phone up to see what the notification was.ย
LEMON:
on my way
you better be ready when i get there
Tangerine read the text from his brother and put his phone back down and started packing his papers up to put into his bag. He walked into the living room from the kitchen and sat down the sofa. He pulled his duffel bag in between his legs to check things off his list, making sure he had everything he needed. He suddenly felt two arms on his shoulders and slowly sliding down and interlocking at his check, a chin on his left shoulder.ย
"When are you coming back?" You pouted as you looked at his face. The stressed look on his faceย dissipated. The crease in his forehead, the furrow in his brows, the slight biting on his cheek, all disappearing the second you touched his shoulders.
"I'll be back in three days, love" He answered, turning his head slightly to look at you. Your pout deepened.ย
"That's too loooong uh" You groaned, dragging out the word 'long'. He chuckled and shook his head. He held your hand that was on his chest.ย
"Come here" He said and motioned you to stand in front of him. You unwrapped your hand from his chest, your right hand still in his as you walked around the couch to stand in front of him. He leaned back slightly and patted his lap. You sat down on his lap, both legs on one side, your butt on one of his laps. He put the hand that he was holding around his neck, your mindlessly do the same with your other arm. His hands went to your waist.ย
"I'll be back before you can miss me" He smiled softly at you.ย
"I miss you already, does that mean you're not goin'ta leave?" You asked, your pout still prominent. He laughed and shook his head at your antiques. His heart aching at the thought of leaving you. Sure, he was away a lot and for long periods of time, but that doesn't make him feel better.ย
"I might as well pack you in my bag" He half-joked, if he were to stay true to his checklist of needs, you would be the first thing on it. You rolled your eyes and laid your head on his shoulder.ย
"You were gone for a whole week last week, now that you're finally back, you're leaving again" You mumbled, feeling neglected slightly. Tangerine sighed and ran a hand through your hair.ย
"Last one baby, then you'll have me for two whole months. Maybe we can go on a vacation? The beach?" He said, understanding how you felt. He didn't mean to be away all that much, but their handler was getting a lot of jobs, and they were the only ones available.ย
"That'd be nice" You smiled into his shoulder. He placed a hand on your cheek and you raised your head from his shoulder. He cupped your face with both his hands, a soft smile on his lips, one only reserved for you. He tilted your head slightly and pressed his lips onto your forehead.
"You deserve the world my love" He mumbled against the skin of your forehead. He pulled away and gave you another smile, you reciprocate the smile.ย
"Now give me a goodbye kiss before Lem gets here" He said, you leaned in and put your lips onto his. A slow passionate kiss, a kiss sayingย i love you.ย
"Where's my goodbye kiss?" A booming voice said as the front door opened. You pulled away, making Tangerine frown. You turned your head to look at the front door to see Lemon at the door with his duffle bag. He dropped it to the floor and opened his arms, motioning for a hug. You eagerly got off of Tangerine's lap and made your way to Lemon and hugged him, letting him engulf you in his arms. It was a warm and platonic hug, made you feel safe. Tangerine got up from his position and bent down to grab his bag.ย
"Alright let's get going" He said as he glanced over the apartment one more time, as if checking if he was missing anything. You pulled away from Lemon's hug and he gave your a small peck to your temple. You leaned against the wall near the door as they both got ready to leave. They shared a look and then nodded.ย
"Hope you guys get there safe, and come back to me in one piece please, we don't want another bullet train level injury" You said as you wrapped your arm around Tangerine, giving him one last hug.ย
"No promises" Lemon joked and picked his duffle bag up again, and started walking out of the house standing outside the door waiting for Tangerine. As you loosened your arm around Tangerine, an idea popped into your head.
"Wait!" You said quickly, putting your hand on Tangerine's chest to stop him before he left. Both Lemon and Tangerine turned to you.ย
"I need to give you something, wait a sec" You said and hurried to the bedroom, closing the door behind you slightly. The twins watched you make it to the room and close the door behind you, they then looked at each other.ย
"I'll go downstairs first and start the car" Lemon said nodding towards the elevators at the end of the hallway. Tangerine nodded and handed him his duffle bag. Lemon left for the elevators as you made your way out of the room. You walked up to Tangerine and stuffed something into the pocket on his pants, secretively.ย
"For when you're alone" You said suggestively and gave him a teasing smile. He raised an eyebrow and eyed you.ย
"What are you up to?" He asked, a smile tugging at his lips.ย
"Find out when you're alonee" You said in a teasing tone and shrugged. He opened his mouth to say something but you cut him off.ย
"Okay go! Lem's waiting" You said and hit his chest softly, pushing him out the door.ย
"I love you" You said as you watch him walk down the hallway, ever so confused.
"I love you!" He called back walking rather slowly, when he heard the door shut and heard the lock click, he started walking faster to catch up to Lemon, dying to know what it was that you slipped into his pocket.
-ย
Lemon let out a huge sigh as he plopped onto the bed, throwing his diffle bag onto the armchair. The twins had just reached their hotel room and they were exhausted from all the travelling and it was currently 12 in the morning. Tangerine was dying to know what was in his pocket, and also take a shower.ย
"Lem I'm gunna hop 'nta the shower yea?" Tangerine said as he opened his duffle bag and looked for clothes to change into. When he got a snore for an answer, he knew Lemon wouldn't be taking a shower. He grabbed his clothes and head into the bathroom. He set his clothes on the counter and grabbed one of the folded towels on top of the rack and hung it on the wall hook near the shower. He set his phone on top of his nicely folded clothes.ย
He unbuttoned his shirt, unbuckled his belt, but before he slipped out of his pants he reached into his pocket to pull out whatever it was that you placed inside.ย
"For fucks sake" He let out a slight groan as he saw his, therefore your, favourite black lace thong. He shut his eyes and licked his lips for a second, trying to contain himself, but his urges were too strong for his morality. He stripped himself of his clothes instantly and let out a small sigh as he brought the pathetic excuse of a pantie to his nose, taking your scent in.ย
His dick was upright, the tip leaking and red. He bit his lip at the faint smell of you on the thong. He tongue escaping his mouth and softly kitten licking the thong, to get some form of taste. The slight taste of your pussy made him groan into the fabric.ย
All he wanted to do was have you on the bed, legs on his shoulder, his head buried between your legs. Until you were squirting on his face. To the point where it could be four days later and he would still be able to taste you on his mustache.ย
He brought the thong away from his face and wrapped it around his dick. Trying to think about you, the way your eyes would look up at him as you suck him off, the way your hand felt around him, the way your tongue would perfectly wrap around his cock. You knew him like the back of your hand, you knew exactly how to suck him off so that he crumbled into your fingertips.
He let out a small moan as he rubbed himself, quickly biting into the back of his hand to muffle his sounds, wishing that he was biting into your skin instead. He threw his head back slightly, his gaze on the ceiling. All his brain could think about was you.ย
Your scent, your taste, your moans, your skin, your tongue.ย
He shut his eyes and swallowed hard as he rubbed himself faster. He imagined you on your knees in front of him, your soft hand rubbing him as you looked up at him with your big beautiful eyes. His hand could never compare to yours. So soft and delicate. He let out a shaky sigh as he felt a familiar pressure in his abdomen. He groaned softly.
The effect you had on him was chimeric, like something conjured from a dream.ย
The feeling of his rough hands in contrast to your soft one, his hands running through your body, touching every part of you. If he had blue paint in his hands and touched you, you would be covered head to toe, by blue paint.ย
He thought of the way your tits bounced with every thrust into you. The way you arched your back, the way you eyes rolled back, the way you bit your lip, and the way your legs shook around him as you came on his cock.ย
Everything about you was so perfect, so proportionate. As if your hand was designed the way it is just for you to hold his hand. Your tits the size they are so they could fit perfectly in his hands. You lips hand-sculpted by Michelangelo himself. Each and every curve on your body, designed just for him, and only him.ย
With that thought in his mind, the thought of you belonging to him, that you were made for him to love and cherish, for him to pleasure and ruin โ he came.ย
He came hard. Making sure to cum into your pantie so that he didn't have to clean up a mess on the floor afterwards. He let out a big sigh and his knees bucked slightly. He leaned against the wall, the cool wall constrasting the hotness of the skin on his back. He licked his lips and swallowed as he looked down to see the mess he made.
Absolutely ruined your thong. The white cum juxtaposing the black fabric of the thong. Making it seem like the night sky, filled with stars. He got off the wall and reached for his phone, snapping and picture of his semi-hard dick and the ruined thong. He threw the thong into the sink, to wash after his shower, and opened his messages app on his phone.ย
Looking at the two pinned numbers at the top, he clicked on your picture and clicked to add an image.ย

Tangerine pulled his cuff links downward and looked at himself in the mirror, his brother was in the bathroom probably spraying himself with cologne. He fixed his tie and leaned into the mirror to fix his mustache.
They were getting ready for a fancy party. Well it was for work anyway, they were getting paid to grab information off of a computer and into a hard drive.ย
"Ready to go?" Tangerine called out from the mirror. There were some rustling sounds coming from the bathroom.ย
"Yeah" Lemon sighed and turned the bathroom lights off and closed the door behind him. He walked up his bed and licked his lips and rubbed his hands together, deciding which weapons to take as if they were toys.ย
"Which one?" Lemon asked his brother as he watched Tangerine pick up a small pistol.ย
"It's an in and out job, don't overthink it" Tangerine shrugged put the gun in his holster that hid perfectly under his suit.ย
"You're gunna regret saying that" Lemon called after him as Tangerine head to the door. Tangerine rolled his eyes and pulled out of the hotel key card out of its holder so the room went dark and Lemon let out a little scream and scurried out the room as he quickly put the gun he picked out into his holster.
The man who has killed mutiple people all at once, was scared of the dark.
"You've got a kill count of over a hundred and you still sleep with a nightlight" Tangerine shook his head as they started walking to the elevator.ย
"The darkness is scary, never underestimate it" Lemon glared at his brother and pressed the elevator button.ย
-
The sound of chatter, glass clinking and rich laughs filled the huge ballroom. Tangerine and Lemon looked around the room and then at each other, sharing a look. Lemon gave the person at the door his car keys.ย
"Walk around and observe for now, I'll signal you when it's time to bag it" Lemon said and started walking towards people, trying to fit in and converse with people. Tangerine nodded more to himself and spotted the bar, he made his way there.ย
"A skinny margarita please" He heard a woman say. Something about the voice made him turn his head to find the source. He saw a woman with her back facing him, she was facing the bar.
She was in a backless dress, not too low, just low enough to want others see more, elegant. She had black elbow length gloves and a silky dark red dress with spaghetti straps that hugged her body perfectly. Her hair in a messy-neat updo with small pearls in between each tangled up curl.ย
"May I?" Tangerine asked, more like said, as he slid money to the bartender and stood beside the woman. You turned your head to look at the generous man. You smiled at him softly. Your face held a sense of innocence.ย
"You may" You said turning your body slightly to see him, even though the bartender had already taken his money and was already making your drink for you.ย
"Is there a reason you're buying me a drink or do you just do that to every woman you see?" You asked teasingly and smirked at him. A small smirk fell on his lips.ย
"Just the women who are beautifully dressed tonight" He joked and leaned against the bar. You raised an eyebrow at him and properly sat in your seat to face him.ย
"Is that right?" You asked, tilting your head to the other side.
"Always been like that" He shrugged, the smirk on his face not leaving his face.ย
"Hmm" You hummed and took him in. His suit, his gel backed hair, his bracelets on his wrists, the necklace around his neck, the smell of his cologne. He looked very well dressed... and hot.
"What brings you here?" You asked as the bartender brought you your drink and placed in in front of you on the table. You turned to the bartender, smiled at him and picked the glass up. bringing it up to your lips to take a sip. Looking up at him, with big eyes.ย
"Business" He simply said and shrugged and brought his drink up to his lip. You didn't remember him ordering a drink.ย
"You?" He asked as he put his drink down, you put your drink down too.
"I work with the man hosting all this" You answered, tracing your finger on the brim of your glass.ย
"Aaah and he invited you here, how generous" He smirked slightly, knowing how the man hosting this party was, and he wasย notย generous.
"Bit of a pain in the arse really" You mumbled only for him to hear.ย
"Oh yeah? What makes you say that?" He asked, hiding a laugh.ย
"Have you met the man, looks like a pain in the arse too" You rolled your eyes and brought your glass to your crimson coloured lips again. He let out a little laugh,
"Is that how you judge people? With their looks" He chuckled and smiled at you.ย
"Ohhh yeah, big time" You smiled and nodded, not even trying to defend yourself with the argument because you completely agree.ย
"Uhhuh and what can you say about me" He asked and stood up properly, no longer leaning onto the bar. You bit your lips slightly and leaned in, so your cleavage was more visible. It was obvious that he was trying to be a gentleman and tried not to look.ย
"You're cocky, you think you're sooo hot and that you can get away with anything with that stupid mustache of yours" You whispered to him, your minty citrusy breath fanning his face.
His smile faltering and turning into a smug one. He traced his tongue on the inside of his cheek and smirked.ย
"Is that so?" He teased and came closer to you.ย
"I must admit though, you seem like you're humble about it" You shrugged, making his raise his eyebrows, at how forward you were being. He liked it.ย
"Where the fuck are you, something's happening, meet me in the ballroom" A familliar voice ringed in Tangerine's ear through his ear piece. He tried not to react to it because it was rather loud.
"Well darling, I want to say I am, but I'd rather you find out yourself" He smiled at you.ย
"I best be going" He stood up properly once more, did a little bow before turning, but stopped in his tracks when he felt an hand on his bicep.ย
"I never got your name" You asked and tilted your head to the side.ย
"Tangerine" He answered. You scrunched your brows and a small smile played on your lips, a glint of something on your eyes, the look of being right?
"Did you just say that because my drink has citrus in it?" You asked, tilting your head. He shook his head with a soft smile and rolled his eyes,
"And yours?" He asked. You pretended to think, you weren't really though.ย
"Let's say it's Rogue" You smiled at him mischievously. He sucked his teeth and shook his head.
"Are you only saying that because you're wearing red?" He asked, the same way you asked him. You shrugged innocently and brought your glass to your lips again.
"Tangerine!" A voice hissed into his earpiece and he tried not to flinch. He bowed slightly again and turned around and started walking away, finding the ballroom.
"Why the fuck are you screaming into the earpiece, I can hear you just fine" He hissed into his earpiece as he replied to his brother and made his way to the ballroom, finding his brother.
"You weren't replying, the fuck was I supposed to do?" Lemon argued back as he started walking next to his brother.ย
"What's happpening?" Tangerine asked as he looked around the fully packed ballroom and spotted you in the corner of the room, leaning against the wall with a bored look on your face.
It was hard not to notice you, you were wearing red, made you stand out. He had a soft smile on his lips as he looked at you but was snapped out of his trance when he felt his brother smack him.ย
"What?!" He hissed and rubbed his shoulder.
"You weren't listening fuck face" Lemon glared at him.ย
"I'm listening now, tell me" Tangerine rolled his eyes.ย
"There's going to be dancing going on, we'll stay for about 3 dances then we'll bag it and get the fuck out of here" Lemon explained the plan, Tangerine nodded and fixed his cuff links, slowly turning his head to where he last saw you, only to see that you weren't there anymore.
-
"Holy fuck can we just go right now, I want to get this done" Tangerine complained and rubbed his face in his hands as Lemon joined him where he was seating.
He had just finished dancing with some random lady because the host was eyeing them and he wanted to play it off.ย
"It's not that bad, maybe dance with someone, it's kind of fun" Lemon said and sighed as he sat down.ย
"Fuck that" Tangerine rolled his eyes and sat up in his seat, looking around the room. 1 dance had just ended and they were going to have to wait through 2 more. His eyes landed on a woman wearing red, sitting down with a bored look on her face, staring off to space. He stood up and kept looking at her.ย
"Maybe I will" He told Lemon and tried making his way through all the people to get to her.ย
"He's so fucking bipolar" Lemon shook his head with a smile. He made his way to you and you were zoned out so you didn't notice him standing right in front of you until he held his hand out to you.
You jumped slightly and looked up to see who it was, the confused look slowly turning into a small smile.ย
"Why hello to you too Tangerine" You smiled at him.ย
"May I have this dance?" He asked politely. You hid a smile and looked to the ceiling to think.ย
"I guess" You rolled your eyes and took his hand to get up. He brought you to the middle of the floor and put a hand on your hip and you put a hand on his shoulder, the other hand holding onto each other.ย
"So Rouge, why are you really here?" He sparked a conversation. The song had yet to start, it was just a little waiting time with a soft piano playing in the background as everyone got a partner to dance with. You squint your eyes at him as you both sway softly.
"Like I said, I work with the bloke" You shrugged, looking up at him with big eyes. You looked like a lost doe.ย
"Lies, no man would ever invite a woman this beautiful and not offer her a dance" He flirted and smirked slightly at you. Your heart started beating faster and your face turned as red as your dress.ย
"Aren't you a flirt" You smiled at him, and shook your head. The music started and he pulled your closer with the hand that was on your hip.ย
"Only sometimes" He shrugged and twirled you around. A huge smile on your face, a subtle smile on his, but he smiled with his eyes, which was rare. His hand went back on your hips and yours on his shoulder as you stopped spinning and started moving in sync with the music.ย
-
The music ended and he softly let you down, he had lifted you by the waist and turned you around. Everyone bowed to their partner. You stood back up from your courtsy and smiled at him. He held his hand out for you to hold and lead you off of the floor.ย
"That was fun" You smiled at him and leaned against a pillar. Tangerine laughed.ย
"Yeah it was, I don't dance much so please forgive me if it was horrid" He laughed, more to himself, confused as to what made him want to dance with you. He never liked dancing, given his past.
"Well you are forgiven" You smiled at him. He smiled back, and there was a silence where you stared at him and he stared at you. Both looking at each others lips and then back to the eyes.
You broke out of the trance when you realised the both of you were leaning closer. You put a hand on his chest and bit your lips.
"Well I best be going" You smiled at him, repeating what he had told you before. His eyes lost a small gleam to it when you said it.ย
"Uh yeah" He said, his voice was raspy. He cleared his throat. You smiled up at him, your heart warming at his shyness all of the sudden.ย
"I'll um see you after the dances?" He said, more like asked. You pursed your lips and nodded your head, even though you knew that you wouldn't.ย
"Goodbye Tangerine" You smiled at him and put a hand on his cheek. You started moving away from him, heading the other way, walking out of the ballroom.ย
"Bye" He whispered and sighed. He shook his head and head back to where his brother was sat. Lemon smiled at him when he came back and sat down.
"One more song, then we go." Lemon reminded and Tangerine nodded, trying to focus on the job and not some mysterious lady in red that had apparently taken up much more of his attention than he intended for you to take up.
-
"I'll be here, you go into the room and get the data" Tangerine mumbled and peeked over the wall to see if there was anyone as they made their way upstairs. Lemon pulled out a thumbdrive from his pocket and made his way into the room, trying to make sure he wasn't seen by anyone.
Tangerine stood up normally and put his gun back into his holster and started walking to check if there were people around. He heard noises coming from the end of the hallway.
"Fuck" He hissed and turned to the nearest door and pretended to just come out of the room. The man and woman who walked into his sight looked at him and gave him a confused.
"Well that's not the washroom" He chuckled and walked past them but then ducked into a hallway and watched where they were going. The man held the woman's hand and kissed her softly then pushed her against a wall. The kiss getting deeper and more passionate.
Tangerine rolled his eyes and let out an annoyed sigh. They then slowly made their way into a room that was a room away from the room Lemon was in.ย
"Tan-!" He heard his brother say through the earpiece before there was a huge bang and then a thud. The sound made him scrunch his brows in confusion. He made his way to the door, holding the knob and turning it.
"You didn't give me the fucking signal Lem, I thought we were gunna... what the fuck" Tangerine ranted but stopped when he saw what was playing out in the room with the computer. The last thing he'd expect to see was his brother laying on the floor unconscious and you behind the computer.
"Oh Tangerine! Hello!" You smiled at him and clicked on enter on the keyboard.ย
"What the fuck?" He said, more asked, very confused as to why his little crush was behind the computer and his brother was on the floor unconcious.ย
"I thought I had more time before they came up what the fuck Rose?" You hissed into you earpiece. It was obvious you were talking to someone. Tangerine stared at you flabbergasted. You gave him a sheepish smile and held up a finger signaling him that you needed a minute.
"Oh yeah I'll just wait here" Tangerine sarcastically rolled his eyes. You rolled your eyes.ย
"I thought you'd know about me, you know I got a file on you and Lemon here" You said and nodded your head towards the very knocked out Lemon on the floor.ย
"Well I obviously fucking didn't, now get your thumb drive out of the computer" Tangerine glared and started walking towards you. You looked around the table and grabbed the ceramic vase you used to knock Lemon out.ย
"I knocked your brother out, I can knock you out too" You threatened and showed him the vase, he stopped in his track trying to thing of a strategic way to get to you without getting hit in the face. You glanced at the computer only to see 50% of the data was uploaded into the hard drive.ย
"For fucks sake can you go any faster" You groaned into your earpiece.ย
"I'm trying as hard as I can, asshole" A females voice rang back to you.ย
"You're partner?" Tangerine asked nodding towards you, mentioning the earpiece, he somehow hadn't noticed before, probably because it was disguised as an earing.ย
"Yea sum'n like that" You shrugged and glanced back at the computer but when you did Tangerine snatched the vase from your hands, you snapped your head back to him and glared at him.ย
"I don't hit women, so just hand over the hard drive" Tangerine said calmly and put the vase down on the table.
"I would once it's at 100%, but honestly I don't feel like it, and I'm getting a shit tonne of money" You shrugged and took a step back as you saw Tangerine make his way closer to you.ย
"How much are you getting paid?" He asked genuinely.ย
"50 grand" You explained and turned around to be on the opposite side of him, with the table in between you guys. Tangerine's eyes went wide in disbelief.ย
"What?! I'm getting half of that! Who the fuck is your supplier" He gasped and glanced down at the computer. It was rather slow.
"I'm not telling you" You squinted your eyes at him. He was trying to buy some time by distracting you but you knew better than that, you slipped your toes into a little hole in a slipper that was just stranded on the floor and kicked up to your hands and threw it at his head. It hit his forehead and he groaned and leaned his head back.
"Fuck!" He hissed and held onto his forehead. You let out a little laugh.ย
"It's gonna take about 6 more minutes, you think you can handle that?"ย A voice came from your earpiece.
"Childs play" You smirked as you watched him glare at you. He let out a breath through is nose and swiftly walked to you, and you backed up against the door. He lifted you over his shoulder but before he could throw you across the room you grabbed onto the little pull up bar on top of the door frame and held onto it tight. When he realised that you weren't budging his grip on your waist loosed to look up but he was only met by you swinging back and using your momentum to kick him in the ribs.
He fell backwards onto his back with a groan. You swung back and then forth and landed on your feet and was about to get up from a bent position to check on how much data was transfered but a hand grabbed your ankle and pulled you down.ย
"Ow hey!" You groaned as you hit your chin on the floor and Tangerine went to get up but you lifted your body up slightly and grabbed his belt and pulled him down as he tried to run past you.ย
"That was not very gentleman like!" You glared at him and crawled on top of him to keep him in place. Both your legs on either sides of him as you kept him grounded. He rubbed the back of his head.
"Gentleman me jumped out the window the second you hit my brother unconscious" He hissed at you and opened his eyes to see you on top of him. If he were to be honest, it turned him on a lot more than it was supposed to.
A spaghetti strap falling off your shoulder, the slit in your dress rising up slightly, you panting, it was just enough to make him hard. You reached for his gun holster and threw his gun across the room, and it just so happened to land on Lemon's head again. You winced.ย
"I am so sorry, I did not mean to aim it there" You winced and looked at Lemon, Tangerine took this oppurtunity to buck his hips upwards and throw you onto the floor beside him, his hands on your hips. You let out a yelp as he does.
He was now on top of you, pinning you down to the floor with his hands on your hips. Those were surely going to be bruised up in the morning. The collision with the floor made your ear piece fall out.ย
"Fuck" You mumbled as you stared at it on the floor. Your hand quickly went up to grab it, but he was faster. He grabbed your wrists and pinned them to the floor. His face merely centimetres away from yours.ย
"You're going to be a good girl, and you're going to give me that hard drive" He panted on top of you, his minty breathe fanning your face. His accent, his face, his use of the nickname, made you want to wrap your legs around his hips and let him have his way with you. But not everyone gets what they want.ย
"What? Without a proper fight?" You asked in a teasing way, tilting your head slightly. You bent your leg slightly and used your knee to kick him in the stomach. He sucked in his stomach and groaned, his face in your neck now.
You took this opportunity to slip out from underneath him. Once you got out from under him you got on your knees to try crawl to your earpiece but he grabbed you ankled and dragged you back to him.ย
"Rouge? The hell is going on there? You okay?"ย The same voice spoke from the earpiece, now Tangerine could hear because it wasn't stuck to your ear yet.ย
"Do I need to go in there? Because I will!"ย She threatened, her voice wavering slightly.ย
"No I'm fine, and you wouldn't last a minute, how much longer?" You winced as Tangerine pulled you by the ankle towards him. He placed it so he was on top of you again, caging you underneath him. You punched him in the chest but since you had no space to rewind your punch it didn't hurt him at all.ย
"A minute"ย She answered back. Tangerine looked up to the computer and got up from the floor quickly but you grabbed his wrist before he could fully get up, you wrapped your legs around his waist and rotated your hips so he would flip and fall onto his side beside you. This made your dress slide up and your hold up's show to him, where there was a knife on your left leg and a gun holster on the right.
You got up and stood in front of the computer and the second Tangerine stood up and making his way to you, it turned a 100%. He was about to grab it but you beat him to it, you closed the attatched cap to it and shoved it in your bra.
Tangerine's eyes went from your hand to your breasts and then looked up to your face with a 'Are you fucking kidding me?' look. You laughed at his face.
"You should see your face right now" You giggled and licked your still red lips. The lipstick was surprisingly still on. He let out a slight growl and walked closer to you, you stopped laughing.
He held your hips and picked you up like you weighed nothing and sat you down on the table and stood between your legs, with his hands still on your hips so you couldn't move. You winced at the impact of his slamming you onto the table.
"Ow what the hell" You hissed at him and rubbed your back, near your butt.ย
"Give me the damn hard drive" He threatened. You smirked and leaned back, your hands behind you as they supported you, you tilted your head to the side.ย
"Why don't you get it?" You smirked, you knew he would never do that. He respected women too much to do so.ย
"Fuck you" He glared at you and his gaze went down to your cleavage, you were breathing heavy from all the 'fighting' you guys were doing.ย
"Oh I bet you'd love to" You whispered, smirking. You saw the goosbumps on his neck and his adams apple bobbing. You just wanted him to take you right then and there.
Am I ovulating?ย
Your thought was cut off when there was noise from outside the door. Tangerine looked up from you and faced forward to look at the door and you turned your head to look at the door.
"Fuck" The both of you whispered and looked at each other.
"Babe we should just leave it alone" A woman's voice came from outside the door.
"There's a lot of noise coming from here, what if someone's getting killed!" A man's voice responded to the female's voice in a hushed tone.ย
"That's the couple that was shagging in the next room" Tangerine whispered to you. You scrunched your face and turned to look at him in confusion. He looked at you and rolled his eyes,
"I saw them go in together" He said defensively. You saw the doorknob move and you had to think fast. You grabbed Tangerine's face and smashed your lips onto his. He made a surprised sound but soon closed his eyes and melted into the kiss, his hands on your hips loosening.
You moaned softly as he started to slowly lie you do onto the table. You wrapped your leg around his hips, and softly moved against his crotch area. He groaned into your mouth and slightly bit onto your bottom lip. He shoved his tongue into your mouth, your tongue fought for dominance but he won. The only fight he won tonight. The door opened slightly and the man peeked in.ย
"Oh shit" He cussed softly and closed it right back up. There were hushed yells from the couple outside the door and then hurried footsteps leaving. He couldn't see Lemon's body because of how small the door was opened, luck was on your side.
You pulled away slightly, panting on his lips. He groaned and softly bucked his hips as you stopped grinding on him. He slowly opened his eyes.ย
"Do you always kiss the people against you?" He whispered against your lips, a small string of saliva connecting them.ย
"Only sometimes" You whispered back, copying what he said earlier, a smug but shy smirk on your face. He smiled at your answer and opened his eyes fully but before he could comprehend what was happening, you hit him in the back of his head with the vase.
The vase was somehow indestructible because it had hit two people in the head and still did not break.ย
"I'm sorry, love" You whispered, genuinely feeling bad as his body fell to the ground. You got off the table and stood on top of his body, he still had a bit of consciousness because he could see you reach for his pocket, very much ignoring the buldge in his pants and going for his phone.ย
"What the fuck are you doing?" He managed to rasp out as his vision blurred and all he could see was your figure on top of him, well a woman in red on top of him.ย
"Call me when you're out of here" You smiled at him sweetly as if you hadn't just hit his head with a vase and probably gave him a concussion.
You leaned down and kissed his cheek, a light imprint of your red lipstick on his cheek. You put his phone back into his pocket and stand back up. You walk around the desk and grab your earpiece.ย
"Rose you there?" You panted as you checked for the hard drive in your bra, it was still there. You were just going to keep it there.
"Holy fuck! Thank God you're alive" The woman on the other side sighed in relief.ย
"Yeah I am, I'm coming down" You said and stretched your back.ย
"Alright, the car's waiting outside- wait you said down?" She asked confused. You walked up to the window and looked down, you saw the car she was waiting in with her little computer. You opened the window and stood on the ledge.ย
"Yea down and out the window" You said as if were the most obvious thing in the world.ย
"รtes-vous fou?! Rouge! Stop it, go out the normal way!" The woman in the car, Rose looked out the car window and saw her partner on the window ledge.ย
"Can't really do that" You said sheepishly and looked back at the two unconcious men on the floor. If you went out the normal way, people would be suspicious and check to see the room and that wouldn't leave the twins much time to leave.ย
"Rouge don't you fucking dare- Rouge!" Rose yelled through the ear piece as she watched from the window. You put a hand on the pillar that was right next to the window. You saw a rope attatched to it that went to the street light, that the car was parked right under. You grabbed the edge of your red dress and tore a long piece, hoping it would be strong enough to carry your weight.
You walked closer to the pillar and put the cloth around the rope. You took a deep breath and jumped off the ledge. Rose shut her eyes and held her breath. You slid down the rope but while it was heading towards the car, the fabric started to rip slightly.
The cloth ripped and you fell on top of the car roof, hitting the side of your body on it. Rose jumped at the noise and her eyes shot open. She looked outside the car and quickly unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car.ย
"Rouge!?" She yelled looking around the road to see where you were.
"I'm here" You groaned and sat up, a hand on your rib cage. She turned around quickly to the source of your voice and glared at you.ย
"Oh mon diue" She sighed and glared at you while pursing her lips.
You slowly slid down and panted and leaned against the car. Leaning your head back. She stared at you and didn't say anything. You opened your eyes and looked at her. She was glaring at you, you smiled sheepishly at her.
"Heeeeeeeyyy..." You said and gave her a toothy smile.
"Get in the car." She said strictly.
"Yup" You said and walked to the other side of the car and got in. You buckled in your seatbelt and she go in and started driving. You leaned against the window and relaxed your body.ย
"The hard drive?" She asked, her eyes on the road.ย
"Oh" You said suddenly remembering the hard drive in your bra, you grabbed it out and put it in the laptop she had in the backseat where she was working.
There was a silence between the two of you, a comfortable silence, you've known each other for so long now, there was no such thing as awkward silence.
"I see you had fun" She said, slightly smirking. You turned to her.
"What are you on about?" You asked shaking your head.
"Look in the mirror chรฉrie" She smirked and glanced at you. You scrunched your brows and pulled down the shade and moved the slide to the other side to reveal the mirror.
Your lipstick was smudged all over your chin. Your face turned red and you pursed your lips and melted into your seat. She laughed at your reaction.ย
"So chips and soda?" She asked and looked at the in built GPS in the car.
"Yes please." You whispered and grabbed a wet tissue from the glove compartment and started wiping the red lipstick and your make up off.ย
-
"Wake the fuck up" Lemon groaned and shook his brother. Tangerine shot his eyes open and looked around, he didn't know what or who he was looking for.ย
"How long were we out for?" Tangerine asked as he put a hand where you had hit him.ย
"Enough time for her to get away" Lemon said and sighed as he glanced at the computer and saw that the hard drive was gone. Tangerine rubbed his forehead when he suddenly remembered you with his phone. He quickly grabbed his phone from his pocket and unlocked it to see the first thing was your contact info.ย
'Rogue'ย with a red lip next to it. He caught himself smiling slightly.ย
"Looks like she jumped out the window, why didn't she just go out normally?" Lemon asked as he looked out the open window and the red fabric on the rope hanging there. Tangerine got up and walked up to Lemon to see what he was talking about.
He saw the red fabric and scoffed and shook his head with a smile on his face. He knew why you went out through the window. He looked down at his phone again.ย
"What're you smilin' 'bout?" Lemon asked, scrunching his brows at his twin. Tangerine locked his phone and out it back in his pocket.ย
"Nothing, let's get out of here" He said and started to tidy the room up before they left so it wouldn't look like someone fought in the room. Lemon eyed him and crossed his arms in front of his chest. He grew up with Tangerine, he knew him inside out.ย
"Did you guys fuck while I was unconscious?" He asked seriously. Tangerine turned around quickly and glared at his brother.
"What?! No! Why would I sleep with the person who's against us?" Tangerine scoffed and rolled his eyes. Lemon raised his eyebrows and gave Tangerine a look. Tangerine sighed.ย
"We made out" He admitted, very softly, so Lemon wouldn't hear it properly.ย
"Well obviously, there's lipstick stains on your cheek and lips" Lemon rolled his eyes and picked up the chair that was on the floor. Tangerine put his hand on his cheek, he felt warm in the inside. Warm and bubbly.ย
"I think I love her, Lem" Tangerine admitted.ย
"Oh fuck off and clean up" Lemon rolled his eyes and threw the same sandal you threw at him, but this time he caught it.

The train moved through the vast whiteness, cutting through the snow like a pioneer in unknown lands. The rhythmic sound of the wheels against the tracks filled the silence of the cabin as you gazed at the landscape through the window. Snowflakes gathered on the glass, creating ephemeral patterns that quickly disappeared with the warmth of the cabin. The winter was always harsh, but there was something poetically beautiful in the monotony of the icy horizon.
You pressed the small bundle of letters against your chest, feeling the rough paper in your hands. Alexei's words echoed in your mind, the familiar phrases you'd read and reread countless times over the past three months. "I hope the snow is gentle with you," he had written in the last letter. "Natasha misses you, and so do I. Come back to us soon."
Alexei's handwriting had always been precise, almost meticulous, but it seemed to have lost something. Perhaps a fluidity, or the warmth with which he used to end each message with affectionate declarations. Not that he had been cold; far from it. But there was a restraint in the words, as if he were trying to hide something. You shook your head, pushing the thoughts away. There was no room for doubt. Alexei was your husband, and your nearly three years together had been surprisingly harmonious for an arranged marriage. You had built something real, something that seemed unshakable.
The longing tightened like a knot in your chest. It was almost impossible to be away from Natasha, your daughter, who was under two years old and already the light of your days. You could imagine her now, perhaps playing with the blonde curls she had inherited from Alexei or dragging some toy across the floor of the hall. Alexei would surely be close by, attentive, although not the type to show excessive affection. He had a magnetic calm, a charisma that drew looks and trust from everyone around him.
You closed your eyes for a moment, remembering his face. The sharp features, the hair he always kept immaculate, but which seemed to rebel against control in the most intimate moments. His eyes, as clear as ice melting under the sun, held a depth that disarmed anyone who looked at them long enough. And yet, there was gentleness there, a softness he reserved only for you and Natasha.
The train made a turn, shaking lightly. You held your purse at your side and glanced at the clock. Only a few hours remained until you reached the station, and the thought quickened your heartbeat. What would the reunion be like? You felt your hands anxious, the words you might say to him forming and dissipating in your mind.
You opened the last letter again, your eyes following the familiar words. "The house is emptier without you. Natasha calls for you every night. Iโve been distracting myself with... events, but itโs not enough. Please come back to us soon." Something in the sentence felt hesitant, as though there was more he hadnโt said. But before you could reflect further, the train gave a final jolt, announcing the approach of the destination.
You took a deep breath, putting the letter away and straightening your posture. Soon, very soon, you would be home.
The station was alive with the sound of carriage wheels on the pavement, hurried footsteps, and voices muffled by the steam of the trains coming and going. The air was heavy with the smell of burning coal and the biting cold of winter. You gripped your suitcase tightly, your heart pounding in your chest as you stepped off the train. It had been almost three months away from home, away from him, away from Natasha.
Your gaze swept over the crowd, searching for a familiar figure. Men in top hats and heavy coats hurried past, women wrapped in shawls shielded their faces from the cold, but it wasnโt any of them you were looking for. Then, you saw him.
Alexei stood near a cast-iron column, his imposing stature setting him apart from the chaos around him. He wore a dark gray overcoat that accentuated his broad shoulders, and a black hat partially shaded his face. But it was impossible not to recognize those eyesโclear as ice in the sun, watching you with intensity, as though the world had stopped.
You paused for a moment, unable to breathe, unable to believe that you were finally here. He took a step forward, removing his hat with an elegant gesture, revealing his perfectly styled blonde hair, though a stubborn lock fell over his forehead. Time seemed to freeze around him, the bustling station blurring into an indistinct haze. All that remained was him.
"Alexei," you whispered, your voice choked with the emotion rising to the surface.
He didnโt respond immediately. Instead, he walked toward you with long, determined strides, his face controlled, but his eyes betraying a storm of feelings. When he stopped just inches from you, the silence between the two of you seemed to speak louder than any words.
"Youโre back," he finally said, his deep voice heavy with something you couldnโt name. He seemed so calm, so restrained, but the way his eyes traced every line of your face, as if making sure you were real, betrayed how much he had missed you.
You let the suitcase fall to the ground and took a step toward him, unable to hold back. The distance between you vanished when you threw yourself into his arms, your fingers gripping the heavy fabric of his overcoat as you buried your face in his chest. He seemed stiff at first, as though the moment had caught him by surprise, but in seconds, his arms closed around you, strong, protective, as if he never wanted to let go.
"Alexei," you murmured again, the sound muffled against him. The words failed, but it didnโt matter. The way he held you, with an almost desperate firmness, said everything he couldnโt express.
He tilted his head, his face buried in your hair. You felt the warmth of his breath on the top of your head, the subtle touch of his lips against your strands. "I was counting the days," he murmured, his voice so low you almost didnโt hear it. "Every damn day."
You pulled away just enough to look at him, your eyes full of the tears youโd tried to hold back. "Me too. I counted them too, Alexei."
He raised one of his hands, his broad, strong fingers sliding along the side of your face, wiping away a lone tear that had escaped. "Youโve lost weight," he observed, concern evident in the softness of his voice. "But still beautiful." The corner of his lips curved into a brief smile, a shadow of the charisma you knew so well, but still devastating.
You laughed, even though the emotion still tightened your throat. "And you look... more tired. Is everything okay? And Natasha? Is she okay?"
"She misses you. We both do," he replied, the smile fading as seriousness returned to his face. "Sheโs at home, waiting for you. She kept looking at the door every day, asking when youโd come back."
Your heart squeezed at the words, at the image of your daughter so small and eager for your presence. "I need to see her," you said, the urgency growing.
"Letโs go home," Alexei said, effortlessly taking your suitcase and holding your hand with the other. "Weโve waited long enough."
As he guided you through the station, his hand firm on your back, you felt that despite the chaos around you, there was something solid in being next to him again. The connection between you both seemed to have withstood time and distance, but deep down in your heart, you still felt a shadow, something you couldnโt name. Something hiding in the corners of your thoughts and in the glances that Alexei, as loving as they were, couldnโt completely mask.
The carriage jolted gently as it moved through the icy streets of St. Petersburg. Outside, the sky was painted a dark gray, and the snow covered everything like a white blanket. Inside, warm and cozy, you couldnโt stop looking at Alexei. He was sitting beside you, one hand holding yours, his gaze fixed on the window as if he were lost in thought. The silence between you was only filled by the sound of the horsesโ hooves on the road.
"So," you began, your voice breaking the silence, "what happened while I was gone? How is Natasha? Is she eating well? Is she sleeping properly? And you? Alexei, is everything okay?"
He turned his face slowly, his clear eyes landing on you with an intensity that almost made you shrink. "Natasha is fine," he replied, his voice low and controlled. "She missed you, but sheโs strong. I... Iโm fine. Donโt worry about me."
"Of course I worry," you retorted, narrowing your eyes. "Three months, Alexei. Almost three months without seeing her. Without seeing you. Donโt tell me not to worry."
He sighed, his free hand rising to loosen his tie. "It was... a busy time," he admitted, looking away. "But now youโre here. Thatโs what matters."
Busy. The word hung in the air, heavy and vague. You studied him in silence, noticing small details that hadnโt been there before. The stiffness in his shoulders, the subtle dark circles under his eyes that the soft light of the carriage couldnโt quite hide, and something in his eyes โ a shadow, a weight that seemed to have settled in during your absence.
"Busy how?" you insisted, feeling an increasing need to understand.
"Society matters," he said, evasive. "Ball after ball, endless appointments... nothing worth mentioning now. Weโre almost home. Natashaโs waiting for you."
His words were like a barrier, a calculated response to end the subject. You wanted to insist, wanted to ask what exactly had been consuming him, but something in his tone โ and maybe something in you โ made you pull back. It wasnโt the time, not yet.
When the carriage finally stopped in front of your house, your heart raced. Alexei stepped down first, extending his hand to help you down, the gesture so natural and courteous it seemed like an extension of who he was. You accepted, stepping down carefully and looking at the familiar facade of the residence. Everything was the same, yet at the same time, something felt different.
Inside the house, the warmth of the fire in the hearth and the scent of burning wood wrapped around you in a feeling of comfort. Your eyes scanned the space, searching for her โ your daughter, your Natasha. And then you saw her.
She was in the arms of a nanny, sitting near the fireplace. Her blonde hair shimmered in the warm light of the fire, and her rosy cheeks were rounder than you remembered. She turned her head when she heard your steps and blinked, as if trying to confirm that it was really you.
"Natasha," you called, your voice thick.
The little girl blinked again before a wide smile lit up her face. "Mommy!" she cried, squirming in the nannyโs arms until she was placed on the floor.
You couldnโt wait. You knelt on the rug and opened your arms, barely believing youโd finally have her in your arms again. Natasha ran towards you with hurried, awkward steps, stumbling slightly but not stopping until she threw herself into you.
"My girl," you murmured, holding her against your chest and burying your face in her soft hair. She smelled of soap and something sweet, something you could only describe as her.
Natasha began to speak excitedly, her words tumbling over each other as she told you about things that, to her, were grand adventures โ the new toys, the walks in the garden, the stories her father had told her before bed. You laughed and cried at the same time, absorbing every detail, every word, as if you needed to make up for all the lost time.
"You're so big now," you said, holding her face in your hands. "My big girl. I missed you so much."
"I missed you too, Mommy," she replied, her words coming out a little jumbled, but still clear enough to warm your heart.
For a moment, you forgot everything โ the station, the unanswered questions, the subtle changes in Alexei. All that mattered was the comforting weight of your daughter in your arms and the feeling of finally being where you were meant to be.
You lifted your eyes to Alexei, who was leaning against the doorframe, watching the scene with an expression that was impossible to decipher. "We're together again," you said, your voice soft and full of emotion. "Finally together."
Something passed through his eyes, something that made him look away for a brief moment before he replied. "Yes," he said, but the word seemed to carry more weight than it should have. He took a step forward, kneeling beside you.
"Natasha," he called gently, and the little girl turned to him with a radiant smile. "Are you happy now? Mommy is home."
"Happy," Natasha replied, laughing and grabbing one of his hands while still holding yours.
The moment was perfect, almost. But the way Alexei looked at you โ as if there was something he wanted to say, but couldnโt โ left a small shadow lingering over your heart. You pushed the thought aside, determined to enjoy the reunion. After all, you were home. With them.
Dinner went by in a mix of light conversations and moments of pure joy. Natasha, always chatty, monopolized much of the attention with her stories and childish laughter, and you could hardly contain your smile seeing her so excited. Sitting at the table with your family again felt like a balm for your heart, something you had longed for through endless weeks. Alexei, in turn, remained a bit quieter than usual, but still participated with occasional comments, always attentive, always directed to you or your daughter.
After dinner, you took on the task of putting Natasha to bed, refusing any help. It was a moment you wanted for yourself, a ritual you had missed so much during your absence. In the little oneโs room, you dressed her in a soft cotton pajama, decorated with tiny flower designs, and sat by her bed while she snuggled under the covers.
"Sing to me, Mommy," Natasha asked, her sleepy eyes already blinking slowly.
"Of course, my little flower," you replied, stroking her hair before you began to sing a soft lullaby, one that your own mother used to sing to you.
When Natasha finally fell asleep, breathing softly against her pillow, you stayed for a few more minutes in the room, just watching her. Her chest rose and fell in a peaceful rhythm, and her little face, lit by the dim light of the lamp, seemed like the perfect picture of peace. Your heart filled with an almost overwhelming love, so intense that it was hard to put into words.
As you left the room, you made your way to the master bedroom. The house was quiet, and the hallways seemed bathed in a cozy dimness. When you opened the door, you found Alexei sitting in an armchair near the fireplace, a glass of wine balanced in his hand. He had changed out of his formal dinner clothes into a white linen shirt, unbuttoned at the collar, and lighter pants. His golden hair was a bit messy, as if he had run his fingers through it several times. The fire cast soft shadows on his face, highlighting his strong jawline and marked cheekbones.
You paused for a moment in the doorway, watching him without saying anything. He seemed lost in thought, his clear eyes fixed on the fire. There was something about him that always made him seem a bit younger and yet filled with a maturity that made him irresistible โ a mix of vulnerability and strength that seemed uniquely his.
"Youโre very thoughtful," you said, finally breaking the silence as you closed the door behind you.
Alexei lifted his eyes, and his expression softened when he saw you. "Just thinking about how much I missed you," he replied, his voice low and filled with sincerity.
You walked over to him, feeling the warmth of the fire as you drew closer. "Three months," you murmured, stopping beside the armchair. "It felt like an eternity."
He set his wine glass aside and reached out his hand, pulling you gently into his lap. You let yourself be guided, snuggling against him as his strong arms closed around you. His scent โ a mix of wood and something subtly citrusy โ was so familiar that it made your eyes close for a moment.
"Youโve lost weight," you said, a touch of concern in your voice as you traced your fingers along his collar. "Havenโt been eating well?"
"Do you think food tastes the same when you're not here?" Alexei replied, a slight smile curving his lips. He tilted his head, his clear eyes searching yours. "Youโre the heart of this house. Nothing feels right without you."
His words, so simple and direct, made your heart race. You lifted one hand to touch his face, your fingers brushing the line of his jaw. "You have a way of saying things that completely unravels me, Alexei," you admitted, your voice barely a whisper.
He smiled, the kind of smile that seemed to carry so much affection it almost hurt. "Just being honest," he replied, leaning in to brush his lips against yours. The kiss was soft at first, almost hesitant, but it quickly deepened, becoming more intense, filled with longing and need.
When his lips finally pulled away, he rested his forehead against yours, his warmth surrounding you completely. "Promise me youโll never stay away for so long again," he asked, his tone more vulnerable than you were used to.
"I promise," you replied, feeling a lump form in your throat. "But you have to promise me something too."
Alexei tilted his head, his clear eyes fixed on you with an intensity that made your heart race. "Anything," he said, his voice low and deep, filled with sincerity.
"If something is wrong, if something is weighing on you, I want you to tell me," you continued, holding his gaze. "Weโre a team, Alexei. We always have been."
For a moment, he didnโt respond, just watched you as if trying to memorize every detail of your expression. Then he slid one of his hands to your face, holding it with a gentleness that contrasted with the evident strength in his fingers.
"I promise," he murmured, but the way he said the words โ slow and measured โ suggested something deeper, something he wasnโt ready to share yet.
Before you could respond, Alexei leaned in to kiss you again, and this time, there was no hesitation. The kiss was a fusion of longing and need, filled with everything that had gone unsaid during the three months you had been apart. You felt his arms wrap around your waist, pulling you closer, as if he needed to prove to himself that you were there, real and present.
"You have no idea how much I missed you," he said against your lips, his voice rough and broken.
You closed your eyes, absorbing the warmth of his confession as your fingers slid into his hair, messing up the golden strands even more. "I know," you whispered, your heart tight with the weight of lost time. "I missed you too... everything about you."
Alexei didnโt respond with words. Instead, he rose from the armchair with you still in his arms and walked toward the bed. The movement was so natural, so full of intention, that you found yourself unable to look away from him.
"Three months," he murmured as he gently laid you down on the sheets, his eyes roaming over your face as if he were trying to memorize every detail. "It was the longest three months of my life."
You reached up to touch his face, tracing the line of his strong jaw and the contour of his lips, now curved into an almost imperceptible smile. "Then letโs not waste another moment," you replied, your voice soft but filled with conviction.
He didnโt need any more encouragement. Alexei leaned down, his lips finding yours again, but this time with a passion that was both raw and controlled. His hands explored every familiar curve, as if he needed to remember every part of you.
The night unfolded in a mix of whispers, touches, and moments of pure connection. He was gentle, as always, but there was a new intensity, something that spoke of lost time and how much he had longed for you. Every gesture, every word whispered in your ear seemed to carry the weight of everything you both hadnโt been able to express during the months of separation.
In the end, you found yourself nestled against his chest, your heart still racing while his fingers traced lazy patterns on your back. His breath was deep and steady, and you closed your eyes, allowing yourself to relax completely for the first time in months.
"Promise me you wonโt leave again," he whispered, breaking the silence.
"I promise," you replied, your voice thick with exhaustion and the overwhelming love you felt for him.
And while the world outside continued with its concerns and challenges, there, in Alexeiโs arms, you finally found the peace you had longed for.
The following days brought a routine that you embraced with more joy than you expected. After three months apart, every detail of life at home seemed more significant. The familiar scent of the freshly tended garden, the soft laughter of your daughter echoing through the halls, the sound of Alexei talking with the servants โ all of it formed a comforting mosaic, bringing back the feeling of belonging.
Still, there was something different.
Alexei remained attentive and engaged, but you noticed moments when he seemed lost in thought. His eyes, so expressive, carried a restlessness that he masked well. It wasnโt anything glaring, but you noticed. A lingering stare into nothing, slightly delayed responses, a subtle change in tone by the end of the day. It was subtle, but you could feel the difference, as only someone who knew him so deeply could. Still, you decided not to press him. The reunion was still recent; maybe time would erase any shadow that was troubling him.
It was in this context that the first big event since your return took place: a ball.
The night arrived with a light chill, which seemed to accentuate the elegance of the event. The mansion hosting the ball gleamed like a jewel under the starry sky, with torches lighting the path flanked by snow-covered trees. Carriages arrived one after another, unloading elegantly dressed guests, while servants hurried to collect coats and organize the entrance.
Inside the hall, the atmosphere was even more breathtaking. Crystal chandeliers reflected the candlelight in a sparkling display, casting golden and silver patterns on the ornate walls. A string quintet played softly, filling the air with elegant music, while the scent of fresh flowers and wine lingered in the atmosphere. Guests in luxurious dresses and impeccable suits moved gracefully through the space, their voices in animated murmurs, interspersed with restrained laughter.
You entered the ballroom alongside Alexei, his arm firmly resting on yours, a gesture that seemed natural and yet carefully displayed for society. He looked impeccable in his formal uniform, with golden details accentuating his broad shoulders and proud posture. His hair, always carefully styled, reflected the light as if it were made of golden strands, and his light eyes scanned the room with a gaze that was both warm and vigilant.
You had also prepared carefully for the occasion. Your deep blue dress contrasted with the lighter tones around you, the silver embroidery seeming to capture the light with every movement. The elegant neckline and long sleeves accentuated your silhouette, and you felt the gazes following you as you walked past him.
"Everyoneโs watching you," Alexei murmured in your ear, his tone both protective and proud.
You smiled, not looking directly at him. "Maybe theyโre watching you."
He tilted his head slightly, as if considering your response, but the playful gleam in his eyes revealed that he liked the idea.
However, as the evening went on, something changed.
As you conversed with some acquaintances, you noticed diverted glances, muffled whispers, and a growing discomfort began to settle in. It wasnโt paranoia; people were definitely talking about something. Their polished smiles and courteous greetings barely masked the tension on the faces of those you knew well.
It was during a pause in the music that you saw it.
Alexei was on the other side of the room, speaking to someone you immediately recognized: Anna.
She looked stunning in a red dress, her dark hair perfectly arranged, and a smile that seemed to enchant everyone around her. Alexei was slightly leaned toward her, which in itself wasnโt unusualโhe had always been attentive in conversations. But there was something in the way he looked at her, an intensity you had never seen before.
Your heart tightened, and you felt the world around you slow down for a moment.
You quickly averted your gaze, pretending to be interested in a glass of champagne that a servant offered. Your face betrayed nothing; you knew how to control your emotions in public. But inside, questions began to form, each one more difficult than the last.
Alexander approached with a cordial smile, his imposing figure standing out in the already rich environment of ornaments and luxurious dresses. His suit was impeccable, a deep gray that contrasted with his brown eyes, so different from Alexeiโs. Despite the physical and personality distinctions, there was something about him that inspired the same aura of confidence and power as his brother.
"Allow me to steal you for a walk, my dear sister-in-law," he said, his voice low and polite, but still carrying the warmth that always made you feel welcomed.
You accepted without hesitation, offering him a smile that didnโt reach your eyes. "It would be a pleasure."
Alexander extended his arm, and you took it, allowing him to guide you away from the conversation circle you were in. The murmurs and laughter from the ballroom seemed to grow in the background as you moved at a slow pace, wandering between the marble columns and the glow of the chandeliers.
"How has your return been so far?" he asked, the conversation casual, but his observant eyes betrayed something deeper.
"Tiring," you replied, with a practiced lightness. "But Iโm relieved to finally be back."
Alexander let out a soft, almost imperceptible laugh. "I imagine it wasnโt easy to leave everything behind for so long."
"It wasnโt," you admitted, turning your face to watch the guests dancing in the center of the ballroom. "But some things canโt be ignored, as you well know."
He nodded, but didnโt say anything for a moment. Then you felt it: the looks he gave you, longer than they shouldโve been, almost condescending. There was no judgment in them, but a kind of compassion that made you feel an increasing discomfort.
"Does something about my appearance seem off?" you asked, trying to hide your unease with a light joke.
"Not at all," he replied quickly. "You look stunning tonight."
You knew he wasnโt just being polite, but the weight behind his words was hard to ignore. Alexander wasnโt one to speak too much, but his ability to convey the unspoken was almost unbearable.
"Did Alexei mention anything about my absence?" you asked, finally gathering the courage to address the matter that had been on your mind since you entered the ballroom.
"Alexei..." Alexander began, but then stopped, his eyes fixed on somethingโor someone.
You followed his gaze. There was Alexei, still by Anna Kareninaโs side. She was laughing at something Alexei had said, her head slightly tilted toward him. And Alexeiโฆ He had that look in his eyes. Something soft, something captivating. Something you rarely saw when he looked at anyone else.
The world around you seemed to slow down, every sound muffled, as if the entire ballroom had fallen silent. You felt Alexanderโs arm move slightly beneath your hand, bringing your attention back to him.
"Anna is a remarkable lady," Alexander said, his voice low and controlled.
"I know who she is," you replied, almost not realizing you had spoken out loud.
"Of course you do," he murmured, but there was something in his tone that suggested more than mere confirmation.
You continued walking, but your attention kept drifting back to the sight of Alexei and Anna. The way he leaned slightly toward her, his smileโnot forced, but genuine.
"Alexander," you began, your voice sounding more hesitant than you wouldโve liked. "Is there something I should know?"
He hesitated, just enough for the tension in the air to rise. "You know Alexei has a restless heart. Heโs like a bird who sees an open window and canโt resist the curiosity."
"That doesnโt answer my question," you retorted, your hand tightening slightly on his arm.
"Because some questions donโt need to be answered," he said, giving you a look that was both understanding and protective.
There was a latent pain in his words, as if he understood perfectly what you were feeling, but knew that no explanation could ease the weight in your chest.
You glanced at Alexei again, and this time, you met his gaze. He saw you, and for a moment, something in his expression changed. It was as if the magic of that moment with Anna had been broken, as if he were a boy caught in a forbidden act.
You adjusted your dress with an automatic gesture, while the muffled sound of the orchestra seemed like a distant soundtrack to the turmoil inside you. Alexander stepped away after a brief farewell. Each step he took toward Alexei and Anna was a decision that reverberated in your chest like the echo of a heavy bell. The distance between you seemed like an abyss, but still, you kept going. There was no turning back now.
Alexei straightened up, adjusting his suit as if that could somehow protect him from the intensity of your gaze. Beside him, Anna turned, offering a calculated smile that didnโt reach her eyes.
"Darling," Alexei began, his voice sounding controlled, but without the familiarity you so longed for. "We were just talking aboutโ"
"Donโt worry," you interrupted softly, your tone impeccable but with a hint of ice. "I donโt want to interrupt."
Anna tilted her head, as if analyzing every word you said. "Itโs always nice to meet such a courteous soul," she said, the smile remaining but with something sharp hidden in her expression. "I was just commenting to Alexei how charming this ballroom is. Itโs no wonder so many important events happen here."
"Ah, yes," you replied, keeping your tone polite but feeling the lump in your throat grow. "This is the kind of place where people meet, isnโt it? But I must say, I havenโt had the pleasure of meeting your husband, Anna. Isnโt he joining you?"
Her smile faltered for a moment, but quickly recovered. "Unfortunately, he couldnโt come today. Business, you understand."
"Certainly," you murmured, letting the word hang in the air, laden with meanings that no one dared mention. "I imagine itโs difficult to keep up with all the engagements when one is so busy. Iโve felt the same since I returned. It seems thereโs so much Iโve missed."
Alexei cleared his throat, his unease evident. He shot you a quick, almost pleading look, but you ignored it, keeping your eyes fixed on Anna. "But itโs good to know that Alexei has been in good company while Iโve been away," you added, a soft, almost imperceptible smile touching your lips.
Anna responded with a polite laugh, but you noticed the slight tension in her shoulders. "Ah, of course, Alexei is a gentleman. He was just telling me about someโฆ society matters."
"Heโs truly very helpful," you said, tilting your head, as if reflecting. "Always so thoughtful."
Alexei intervened, his voice low but firm. "Darling, Iโm sure Anna doesnโt want to monopolize our evening. Perhaps we should..."
"Donโt worry," you cut in, your voice as sweet as it was sharp. "Iโm just catching up. Three months is, after all, quite a long time to be away."
The words fell like stones on a glass surface. The ballroom around you seemed to grow quieter, or perhaps it was just your perception, distorted by the growing pain inside you. Your fingers trembled slightly, but you hid them between the folds of your dress, struggling to maintain the flawless appearance.
Anna smiled, but this time the gesture seemed more like a mask than anything else. "Well, I wonโt steal any more of your time. It was a pleasure, as always."
"Certainly," you replied, nodding your head in farewell, but the look you cast at Alexei was not one of farewell. It was something deeper, something you knew he would understand.
As she walked away, the silence between you was deafening. Alexei reached out to touch your arm, but you took a step back, keeping your gaze fixed on him.
"Not here," you murmured, your voice low and controlled, though the tremor in your hands betrayed the chaos inside you.
He hesitated, as if wanting to argue, but the weariness in his eyes seemed to silence him. You turned on your heel, head held high, and began to walk away, but the weight in your chest was overwhelming.
As you moved through the ballroom, the noise around you slowly returned, but it felt distant, as if it came from a world you no longer belonged to. With each step, you felt the pieces of the puzzle falling into place, and each one pierced your soul like a sharp blade.
As you walked between the guests, your dress impeccably adjusted and your smile carefully positioned, the emptiness in your chest seemed to expand with each passing moment. The conversation with Alexei and Anna had revealed more than words could express; it was as if a veil had been torn, exposing something you had suspected, but refused to accept.
The glances that always seemed to last a second longer than necessary, the muffled whispers when you passed... now it all clicked. It wasnโt just your imagination, it wasnโt just the insecurities of a wife who had been away too long. It was something tangible, something that everyone there knew and that you were just beginning to understand.
You moved between the groups, smiling and waving mechanically, refusing to stop long enough for anyone to notice the crack growing in your mask. Alexei, for his part, kept his distance, respecting the space you clearly required, but still, you felt his gaze on you, heavy and silent, as if each time your eyes met, he was trying to say something.
The dinner table was a lavish sight, filled with delicacies that would have been irresistible on any other occasion. But now, just looking at the dishes made you feel nauseous. The last thing you could bear was pretending to have an appetite. You grabbed a glass of wine, more out of a need for something to hold than a desire to drink.
You tried to engage in the conversations, but the words of the others reached you like indistinct echoes. It was as if everyone in the room spoke a language you no longer understood. When someone mentioned Alexei, even casually, you felt the weight of the words, as if they were stones thrown at you.
The night seemed to drag on endlessly, each minute a silent torture. You deliberately avoided Alexei, moving from group to group.
When the moment to leave finally arrived, relief mixed with anguish, as if leaving the ballroom could ease the pain, even if only for a moment. Alexei waited for you by the entrance, as he always did, but this time there was something different about him. He didnโt try to touch your hand, didnโt make any casual remarks to break the silence. He simply opened the carriage door, and you stepped in without looking at him.
The ride back home was enveloped in an almost unbearable silence. The carriage swayed gently along the road, but every movement seemed to intensify the tension in the air. You kept your eyes fixed on the window, watching the passing lights and trying, in vain, to find some sense of normalcy in what had once been so familiar.
Alexei tried to speak once. "I..." he started, but his voice died the moment you turned to him, your gaze firm yet silent, saying everything that needed to be said. He sighed, leaning back in his seat, and didnโt try anything further.
The ride home was a blur, and when the door to the bedroom clicked shut behind you, echoing in the heavy silence of the house, it felt like an inevitable trigger. What had once been carefully controlledโthe expressionless face, the calculated steps, the impeccable postureโcrumbled as soon as you found yourself alone.
The first tear slipped silently down your cheek, warm and heavy, followed by another, then another. You tried desperately to stifle the sound rising in your throat, but the sob came, breaking the silence like a desperate wail.
Your legs gave way, and you leaned against the edge of the bed, your hands trembling as they gripped the fabric of your dress. All the weight of what you felt seemed to collapse at onceโthe pain of betrayal, the humiliation of the glances in the ballroom, the emptiness growing inside you.
Then, without warning, you heard footsteps behind you. Alexei. He must have heard the muffled sound of your crying or simply knew he couldn't leave you alone in that moment. He entered the room, and upon seeing you like this, his eyes filled with something impossible to describe โ regret, pain, perhaps even desperation.
"No," you managed to say, your voice choked, your teary eyes meeting his. "Don't come closer."
But he didnโt stop. He ignored the warning in your voice, the protests in your expression. His large, firm hands gently landed on yours, which were still trembling, trying to push him away, but he didnโt give in.
"Donโt do this, Alexei," you whispered, your voice breaking. "No... I canโt..."
He didnโt respond with words. He simply pulled you close, wrapping you in his arms, the firmness of his touch contrasting with the gentleness with which he held you, as though you were something precious and fragile he feared breaking even more.
"Why?" you asked, your voice desperate, almost a muffled scream against his chest. "Why wasnโt I enough? Why, Alexei? I tried... I always tried..."
Your hands pushed against him, or at least tried to, but he remained still, his own hands holding you tighter, as if fearing you would escape. You struggled, but it was futile. He was stronger, and you didnโt have the energy to fight against his grip or the storm of emotions consuming you.
"I loved you," you continued, the words coming out in broken sobs. "I still love... And that wasnโt enough, was it? I gave up everything for you, and you... you..."
But the words were lost in the crying. Your voice disappeared, but the tears kept coming, hot and relentless, soaking the fabric of his shirt as you collapsed. Alexei still hadnโt said anything. He didnโt try to explain, didnโt try to justify. He just held you, pressing your face against the top of your head, his lips touching your forehead in a gesture that seemed desperate.
"Why donโt you say anything?" you murmured, your voice weak and hesitant, mixed with the sobs. "Say something, Alexei... Please..."
But he couldnโt. His hands held you as if he could keep you whole with just his touch. His breathing was irregular, almost as frantic as yours. He seemed as lost as you, as incapable of dealing with what was happening as you were.
Eventually, his strength gave out. The crying subsided, the sobs becoming more spaced out until exhaustion overtook you. You stopped trying to pull away, stopped fighting against his grip. Your body went limp in his arms, exhausted, defeated.
Alexei remained there, holding you as if he could rebuild everything with the strength of his embrace, as if he could erase the pain with his closeness. But the space between you, invisible and overwhelming, seemed to grow with each passing second. Your breath, once broken by crying, was now just a tired whisper against his chest.
He finally loosened his grip, just enough to look at you. His eyes, so familiar, were now filled with a weight you had never seen before โ something almost unbearable to face. He raised one hand, hesitantly, to touch your face, but you turned away slightly, pulling back in a way almost imperceptible. It was enough for him to freeze.
"Please," you whispered, your voice hoarse and broken, barely more than a thread of sound. "Please, Alexei, go away."
His eyes widened slightly, as if your words had hit him hard. He opened his mouth, perhaps to say something, to protest, but the silence in the room seemed to swallow any attempt.
"I can't..." He stopped, his voice faltering. "I can't leave you like this."
You turned your gaze away, unable to bear the way he looked so desperate, so lost. "I can't sleep with you here tonight. Not like this," you admitted, feeling each word tear at you like glass as it left your mouth. "Please, Alexei. Just... just go."
He took a step back, as if the words had physically pushed him away. The pain on his face was evident, as if you had taken something essential from him. He looked at you with a mix of disbelief and anguish, before slowly shaking his head.
"You can't push me away like this," he murmured, his eyes shining with torment he couldnโt hide. "We never... we never sleep apart."
You closed your eyes tightly, trying to ignore the tremor in his voice, the weight of the memories those words brought. "I know," you replied, your voice barely audible. "But tonight... I need it. I need space, Alexei."
For a moment, he seemed about to argue, to take another step toward you. But then he saw something in your eyes โ something that made him stop. The pain you were feeling was there, raw and open, impossible to ignore. And seeing it, something inside him seemed to break.
He stepped closer one last time, hesitantly, as if each movement was a battle. "I..." His voice faltered, and he swallowed hard. "I never meant to hurt you. Never."
You didnโt respond. Not because you had nothing to say, but because you were too broken to find the words.
When he raised his hand, this time to touch your cheek, you instinctively pulled back. It was subtle, but enough for him to notice. The pain in his eyes turned into something deeper โ pure despair, as if that small gesture had taken away any ground he still had left.
"I will," he finally said, his voice low and rough, each word weighed down with something that felt like a ton. "But that doesnโt mean Iโm not here. I... Iโm not going anywhere, understood?"
You just nodded, not meeting his eyes, your body still tense with the weight of everything that had happened that night.
Alexei stood still for another moment, as if trying to memorize the moment, or perhaps gathering the courage to leave. When he finally turned, the sound of the door opening and closing behind him was both a relief and a final blow.
You stayed there, alone in the room, the silence once again filled only by the sound of your irregular breathing. And for the first time in a long time, the bed felt immense, cold, and empty.
The night was an endless torment. The silence of the room felt larger than any physical space, filled only by the echo of what had happened. You stayed sitting at the edge of the bed, staring into the emptiness, unable to lie down on the surface that still held his warmth. The feeling of Alexeiโs absence was suffocating, but the thought of sharing the same space with him again so soon was even more unbearable.
The minutes dragged on until they became hours. Every sound in the house seemed amplified: the distant creaking of wood, the rustling of the wind against the windows, the occasional footsteps of someone downstairs.
When morning finally began to break the sky, painting the room with a gray, hesitant light, you heard the unmistakable sound of footsteps in the hallway. Slowly, almost hesitantly, they approached the door. The knock was soft, almost restrained, but still it echoed like thunder in your chest.
"I'm leaving," his voice came through the wood, low and hoarse, carrying a weight that seemed to suffocate every word. "Please... take care of yourself."
You remained silent. Every part of you screamed to respond, to open the door, but the pain weighed heavier. Silence became your only answer. On the other side, you heard a nearly imperceptible sigh, and then the footsteps receded. When the front door closed, the sound reverberated through the house like a final warning, leaving everything even emptier.
When you finally found the strength to leave the room, the sun was higher, casting a soft glow over the halls of the house, but you didnโt feel any warmth. The cold seemed to have settled inside you, a constant weight that made each movement feel like a Herculean task.
Little Natasha was in the living room, playing with a set of dolls, her face illuminated by the innocence you knew you should protect at all costs. But at that moment, even before she looked up at you, something changed in her expression.
"Good morning, Mommy," she said, her sweet, hesitant little voice.
You forced a smile, but it felt as if every muscle in your face was being pulled against your will. "Good morning, my love."
She put down the dolls and ran to you, her small arms wrapping around your legs. It was such a simple, genuine gesture that it made something inside you break again. You bent down and held her, squeezing her to your chest as if she were your anchor.
"Are you sad?" Natasha asked, her voice muffled against your shoulder.
"No, my angel," you replied, but the hoarseness in your voice was deceitful. "Mommy is just a little tired."
Natasha pulled away slightly, her blue eyes โ so incredibly similar to Alexeiโs โ locking onto yours. They were curious, deep in a way that seemed impossible for someone so small.
"You look sad," she insisted, her little fingers reaching up to touch your face, as if she could wipe away a tear that hadnโt even fallen yet.
You held her tiny hand, squeezing it gently. "Mommy is fine, I promise," you said, but the lie was so fragile that it felt like it could shatter at any moment.
She didnโt respond, only nestling back into your arms. You closed your eyes, inhaling the soft scent of her hair, and allowed yourself to simply feel the moment. But even in that tenderness, there was a throbbing pain.
Natasha was a living reminder of Alexei. Every feature of hers โ the eyes, the soft hair, the curious expression โ was a painful reflection of the man you loved, but who now seemed so distant. With each glance at her, you were reminded of what was at risk, of what seemed to be crumbling beneath your feet.
You held your daughter a little tighter, trying to find comfort in that closeness. But the pain was there, persistent and unbearable, like a shadow you couldnโt shake off.
The attraction to Anna had been as unexpected as it was unsettling. It wasnโt something Alexei had sought or even desired, but there was something about her that seemed to challenge every fiber of his sensibility. She was enigmatic in a way that eluded him, a vibrant presence amid the salons and social gatherings that otherwise seemed so monotonous. Her beauty was undeniable, but that wasnโt what fascinated him. It was the way she seemed to exist in her own world, as if she were always one step ahead of the expectations society imposed on them.
In the early casual encounters, he had thought it was just a passing curiosity, an innocuous distraction. But as the months dragged on and the absence of his wife was felt more acutely, Anna became a beacon of something undefinable, something he couldnโt ignore. They never crossed any lines. Not a touch, not a kiss. But the long conversations, the glances that lasted a second longer than allowed, were enough to create a chasm of doubt within him.
Now, looking back, Alexei hated himself for letting it happen. It was a betrayal not only to his wife but to everything they had built together. He couldnโt deny that the distance between them during her absence had fed something dark. With her gone, the days had become unbearably empty. Her absence was a constant echo that resonated in every corner of the house, and he, in his weakness, had sought comfort in a presence that should have meant nothing.
But Anna wasnโt his wife. She wasnโt the woman who had shared his fears, his dreams, his life. She wasnโt the mother of his daughter, the companion he had sworn to protect above all. And now, in the present, the price of that weakness was almost unbearable.
The days since the ball had been torture. She avoided him with an almost supernatural skill, and he couldnโt blame her for that. All he knew about her came from the servants, who neutrally mentioned the places she was or the hours she spent with Natasha. He didnโt see her, and it was killing him.
That morning, while holding his daughter in his arms, Alexei felt an almost suffocating despair. Natasha, with her silky hair and eyes so incredibly like his, was a reminder of everything he could lose. She nestled against his chest with unwavering trust, her small fingers clutching his collar as she murmured something about playing in the garden. He ran his fingers through her hair, trying to find some peace in that moment, but the guilt was overwhelming.
โHow could I do this?โ he whispered, more to himself than to anyone else. His wifeโs face came to mind, not the hardened look from the ball, but the way she used to smile at him when she thought no one was watching. The memory was so painful it almost made him lose his balance.
His mother had warned him countless times, her words as sharp as they were precise. He still remembered her stern tone during a recent argument, one of the few moments when she had truly lost her patience with him.
โAnna is not for you, Alexei,โ she had said, her eyes flashing with something bordering on disdain. โYour wife deserves more. Your daughter deserves more. And you... you should be ashamed.โ
He had stormed out of that conversation furious, but now he understood the weight of her words. He was ashamed. Deeply. And the worst part was knowing that, no matter how hard he tried, there was no way to go back in time and undo the damage he had caused.
Natasha, sensing the tension in his body, lifted her face to look at him, and her innocent gaze completely disarmed him. She was so small, so confident that her father was the best man in the world. He felt a sharp pang of desperation as he realized that, if he continued like this, he might lose that too.
Alexei couldnโt take it anymore. The silence that once was an almost invisible wall between you two now felt like an impenetrable barrier. He saw the servants walking through the halls, casting furtive glances of pity and caution, bringing scarce news about you. โSheโs still in the room, sir,โ they would say. โShe hasnโt eaten anything again today.โ Every word was a stab, and that morning was no different. When the maid returned with the untouched tray, Alexei felt something inside him break.
Without a word, he took the tray from her hands and climbed the stairs, his heavy footsteps echoing through the house. The door to the room you used to share was closed, and for a moment, he hesitated. Since that night, he hadnโt crossed that threshold. He hadnโt dared. But now, he had no choice.
Pushing the door open, he found you sitting in front of the vanity, impeccable as always, but so different. The dress perfectly aligned, your hair styled with perfection. Not a strand out of place. But what hit him the most was the absence. The absence of color in your face. The absence of the sparkle in your eyes. And the absence of any trace of the love he used to feel, even without you needing to say it.
โYou need to eat.โ His voice came out harsher than he intended. He placed the tray on the small table next to the bed, watching you through the reflection in the mirror. โIf you keep going like this, youโll end up sick.โ
You didnโt respond, your fingers busy with a small brooch pinning your collar. The silence that followed was suffocating, until your voice cut through the air like a blade: โAlexei, I want a divorce.โ
โPlease,โ he said, his voice hoarse, almost inaudible at first. Then, stronger, more desperate. โPlease, donโt do this. Donโt say that. Noโฆโ
You remained firm, your eyes fixed on him, but the trembling line of your lips betrayed the colossal effort you were making to keep your composure.
โAlexeiโฆโ your voice was low, almost a whisper, but the weight of what you said was like a direct blow. โI canโt anymoreโฆ I just canโt.โ
โBut you love me.โ He said it like a prayer, as if repeating those words could undo everything that was happening. He stepped forward, his eyes pleading, shining with a desperation he could barely contain. โYou said you loved me. You still love me.โ
โI love you.โ Your confession came quickly, but as harsh as a blade. โAnd you know that. But it wasnโt enough, Alexei. It was never enough.โ
He fell to his knees in front of you, his chin trembling, his hands outstretched toward you as if begging for his very life. โThen what do I do?โ He asked, his voice breaking. โTell me what to do. Tell me how to fix this. Iโll do anything, anything you ask. But donโt ask me to let you go. Please, I canโtโฆโ
You turned your gaze away, but he saw the tears threatening to spill, even as you held them back with all your might. โI donโt know if thereโs anything to fix.โ Your voice faltered, but you quickly regained composure, lifting your chin. โI donโt know who we are anymore, Alexei.โ
โWe are us.โ He almost shouted, desperation taking over him. โWe are us! No matter what happens, we are us. I canโt... I canโt imagine my life without you. Without Natasha. I canโt bear that.โ
โAnd I canโt bear being with someone who destroyed me like this.โ Your tone was firm, but the pain you felt was as evident as his. You saw him close his eyes tightly, as if trying to push away the weight of your words, but they had already lodged themselves in him like splinters.
"Please." He reached out again, this time gently holding your arm, his touch trembling, almost reverent. "Please, don't do this. Tell me what I need to do to fix this. Tell me... anything."
You finally looked at him, and his eyes were so full of desperation that for a moment, something inside you wavered. "I need time." Your voice broke, and you hated how much saying that hurt. "I need time, Alexei. I can't even think straight with you like this. With us like this."
He slowly shook his head, as if he didnโt want to accept it. "Time?" He asked, the word coming out like a sentence. "I can give you time, but... what if you decide you donโt want to come back to me? What if you decide that... it's over?"
You took a deep breath, the tears you were trying to hold back finally streaming silently down your face. "I donโt know, Alexei. I donโt know."
The room fell into unbearable silence, broken only by the uneven sound of his breathing and your stifled sobs. Finally, he stood up, his hands trembling, his eyes red. "Iโll wait." His declaration was low, but carried a firmness that seemed impossible given his state. "Iโll wait as long as it takes. But donโt give up on us."
You didnโt answer, unable to find the words. And as he left the room, the door closing softly behind him, you collapsed to the floor, feeling as if every part of you was falling apart.
In the days that followed, Alexeiโs absence in the room was like a constant shadow, a gap you didnโt know how to fill. He had respected your decision for space, yes, but he wasnโt truly absent. It was impossible to ignore the small gestures that betrayed him: a tray of tea and biscuits appearing on your table, accompanied by a short but warm note. โAt least this,โ the latest one said, with slanted handwriting and a palpable care.
The servants didnโt comment, but you knew. You knew he asked about your meals, about your health, about anything that could ease the guilt he carried. He was present in a discreet way, almost invisible, but so tangible that you couldnโt shake the feeling that he was always near, still caring, still watching.
Alexeiโs motherโs visit came without warning, on a gray morning, when the heavy clouds outside mirrored the weight you carried in your chest. The maid announced her presence, and you felt your stomach churn. Though there was respect between you two, Mrs. Vronskaya had always been an imposing figure, surrounded by a natural authority that seemed to demand reverence.
You hesitated before going downstairs to meet her, but you didnโt have the strength to refuse. Deep down, you knew this conversation was inevitable.
When you entered the room, Alexeiโs mother was already there, sitting impeccably in one of the armchairs, her heavy coat carefully folded beside her. She raised her gaze as soon as you entered, and for a moment, something in her eyes seemed to soften.
โYouโre so thin,โ was the first thing she said, instead of a greeting, her tone direct but filled with concern.
โIโm fine,โ you replied, your voice soft but firm.
โNo, youโre not.โ Her response was immediate, with no room for debate. She gestured for you to sit, and when you did, the silence that followed was as thick as the cold morning air.
Mrs. Vronskaya wasnโt a woman who minced words, and you knew she was there for a reason. Still, it was you who broke the silence. โWhy are you here?โ
โFor you,โ she said simply, her eyes fixed on yours. โAnd for Alexei.โ
You clenched your hands in your lap, trying to maintain composure. โIf you came to defend him, know that you donโt have to. Heโs already done that on his own.โ
His mother slightly tilted her head, as if weighing her words before responding. โI didnโt come to defend him. I came to listen to you. Do you think I donโt know whatโs going on in this house? That I donโt see the pain in both of your eyes?โ
The mention of pain stung like a sharp needle. You looked away, staring at the floor, but her voice continued, firm and soft. โI never supported Alexeiโs involvement with Anna. I made that clear from the start. Not because sheโs married, but because I knew something like this wouldnโt end well. My son has always had this weakness... this tendency to be captivated by the new, the different. Itโs part of who he is. But I also know heโs a man who loves deeply. When he loves, he gives himself completely.โ
You raised your eyes to her, and there was something there, a mixture of hope and desperation that you couldnโt hide. โAnd what guarantees me that this love will be enough?โ
โI canโt guarantee,โ she admitted, her words direct but without cruelty. โBut I can say that, since you entered his life, Alexei has changed. He found balance in you. I saw it with my own eyes. And I know that, even with the mistakes heโs made, the love he feels for you is real. I know that you still love him.โ
Your heart tightened, and for a moment, you almost wanted to deny it. But what would be the point? โLoving doesnโt seem like enough,โ you murmured, more to yourself than to her.
โMaybe itโs not,โ Alexeiโs mother replied, leaning slightly forward, her hands resting on her knees. โBut sometimes, love is what gives you the strength to find a way, even if itโs painful. Iโm not here to ask you to forgive my son. Iโm here to tell you that, whatever your decision is, you wonโt be alone.โ
The sincerity in her words hit you like an unexpected blow, and you felt your eyes burn. But no tear fell. โI donโt know if I can get over this. Sometimes, it feels like the distance between us is insurmountable.โ
โThe distance is great,โ she agreed. โBut youโre speaking as if heโs on the other side of an abyss. Heโs not. Alexei is trying to reach you, even if awkwardly. Donโt you see that?โ
You closed your eyes for a moment, trying to control the emotions threatening to overflow. โI see. But every gesture of his just reminds me of everything thatโs been lost.โ
Alexeiโs mother nodded, her gaze softer than youโd ever seen. โThatโs natural. But I also want you to know that youโre important to me. Not just as my sonโs wife, but as the woman who made his life better. If you decide that you canโt continue, Iโll understand. And even then, youโll still be part of my family. Always.โ
Those words broke something inside you, but they also brought a small relief. You stood up, and she did the same, holding your hand firmly for a moment before letting it go.
โThank you,โ was all you could say.
โTake care of yourself,โ she replied, her voice carrying an unexpected gentleness.
Later, as you walked down the hallway, you heard Natashaโs laughter echoing through the house. Peeking through the slightly open door, you saw Alexei sitting on the floor, holding the little one in his arms, her golden hair shining in the light coming through the window. Your chest tightened painfully. It was impossible to deny how much Natasha looked like her father โ in her features, her smile, even in the way she seemed to light up the room.
You stayed there for a few seconds, watching. Alexei could hardly believe it when he lifted his eyes and saw you standing there, at the door, your gaze fixed on him and little Natasha. For a moment, he froze, as if any movement could shatter that fragile moment. The weight in your eyes hit him like a punch, and for a second, he wondered if he should call you, ask you to join them.
But before he could even open his mouth, you looked away and disappeared, leaving the door slightly ajar. The absence was an immediate emptiness, a cold that spread through him even with Natasha still nestled in his arms.
โDaddy?โ The sweet, small voice of his daughter broke the silence. Natasha tilted her head to look at him, her golden curls falling over her forehead. โWho was there? Was it Mommy?โ
Alexei swallowed hard, trying to hide the tightness in his chest. He adjusted Natasha in his arms, snuggling her close. โIt was, my little one. But... Mommy had to go.โ
โDoesnโt she want to play with us?โ Natasha asked, her big, bright eyes searching for an explanation.
Alexei closed his eyes for a moment, trying to gather his strength. How could he explain something that he himself didnโt fully understand? How could he justify the choices that had led them to this point?
โItโs not that, sweetheart. Mommy is... tired. And sometimes, when weโre tired, we need some time to rest alone.โ
Natasha furrowed her brow, clearly thinking about the answer. โBut Mommy told me she loves us. She still loves you, doesnโt she?โ
Those words, so simple and direct, pierced Alexei. He took a deep breath, feeling the weight of it all on his shoulders. โYes,โ he finally replied, his voice low and hoarse. โMommy loves you very much. And Iโm sure she still loves Daddy too.โ
โThen why donโt you stay together? Grandma said that love makes everything better.โ
He felt his stomach twist when he heard the mention of his mother. Her visit was still fresh in his mind, a reminder of how much he had failed โ not just with you, but with himself. She hadnโt spared any words, and the silent disapproval in her gaze still burned in his memory.
โBecause Daddy made a mistake,โ Alexei finally said, choosing his words carefully. โAnd sometimes, even when you love someone, you need to show that you can get better before things get better.โ
โWill you get better, Daddy?โ Natasha asked, her little fingers touching his face as if she wanted to make sure he was paying attention.
โI will,โ Alexei replied, his tone now firm. โI promise you, Natasha, that I will fix things. Iโll do everything I can to bring Mommy back to us.โ
โCan I help?โ Natasha smiled, as if the simple thought of being helpful could solve any problem.
Alexei chuckled softly, kissing her forehead. โYour help already means everything to me, little one. Just having you here with me gives me strength.โ
He hugged her tighter, letting that moment between father and daughter carve itself into his memory. Meanwhile, behind the affection he shared with Natasha, Alexei felt the weight of a decision solidifying. He knew he couldnโt allow himself to fail again. He couldnโt disappoint you, or himself, or that little creature who looked at him with so much love and trust.
When Natasha finally got distracted with one of her toys, Alexei stayed there, silently watching her. His conversation with his mother echoed in his mind, every word heavy with meaning. He felt ashamed, crushed by the realization that he had ignored advice and gut feelings that could have prevented all this pain.
But the shame wasnโt enough to paralyze him. It was a flame, something he would use to fuel his determination. Alexei knew the road to you would be difficult, painful. But looking at Natasha, so much like you and so full of life, he found a new resolution.
He didnโt just want to fix things โ he needed to. And he would do it, no matter how much time or effort it took.
The change didnโt happen all at once, but it was like spring after a long winter. Alexei didnโt let a single day pass without trying, without showing how much he was willing to repair the mistakes that had brought so much pain.
He started with simple gestures. A fresh rose picked from the garden, carefully placed in your room. He would stop in front of closed doors, hesitating, but not knocking, respecting the space you had asked for, yet unable to stop leaving something, no matter how small, to let you know he was there.
Over time, he began to include Natasha in his attempts, inviting both of you to join him for a walk in the garden or for a special snack. And although you still didnโt join him, he noticed that the coldness from before was fading, replaced by something more neutral. More human.
The maids would mention that you were starting to eat normally again, that the pallor that marked your face had begun to give way to its natural color. Alexei saw this too, in brief glimpses โ a soft curve at the corner of your lips when Natasha said something funny, a distant look, but less painful, when you thought no one was watching.
And then, that night, fate brought the opportunity he had been waiting for.
The storm had started earlier, with thunder echoing in the distance and gusts of wind blowing through the windows. Alexei was in the living room when he heard the door open, and before he even turned around, he knew it was you.
You entered the hall, your hair drenched and stuck to your face, the dress weighed down with water. He immediately got up, his heart racing at the sight of you like that.
"My God, you're completely soaked." His voice was low but full of urgency as he approached. You hesitated for a moment, as if considering pulling back, but eventually allowed him to come closer.
Alexei grabbed a wool shawl from a nearby chair and gently wrapped it around your shoulders. "Come. Letโs get these clothes off before you get sick."
His tone was practical, almost automatic, but there was something in his movements โ the way his fingers trembled slightly as he adjusted the fabric over you, the care he took to avoid looking directly into your eyes โ that betrayed the depth of his feelings.
You followed him to the bedroom, your steps light and almost silent on the carpet. The tension was palpable, an almost visible thread between you both. He gestured for you to sit in the chair near the fireplace. You did, your eyes fixed on the flames as he moved around the room, grabbing clean towels.
Without saying a word, he knelt before you, gently removing the pins that held your hair with firm, yet tender fingers. Each pin made a soft metallic sound as it fell onto the towel he had spread across his lap. You didnโt pull away.
Alexei then stood up, hesitating for a moment before reaching for the ties on your dress. He paused, looking at you for permission. You nodded slightly, enough for him to continue.
The knots loosened slowly, and the sound of the wet fabric coming undone seemed to fill the room. He helped you stand and wrapped a dry robe around your shoulders before stepping back, giving you space to sit again.
When he finally spoke, his voice was almost a whisper. "Iโm so sorry."
You lifted your eyes to him, something shining there that he couldnโt decipher. โWhat about her?โ
Alexei froze. For a moment, it seemed as if all the air had been sucked out of the room. โAnna?โ
You nodded, your expression still unshaken, but the tension in your shoulders betrayed the effort you were making to stay strong.
โIt was nothing,โ he said finally, his eyes searching yours as if he wanted to beg you to believe him. โNothing that justified... nothing that was worth this.โ
โAnd why?โ Your voice was soft, but cutting, like a blade piercing straight through his heart. โWhy her? What did she have that I didnโt?โ
Alexei ran a hand through his hair, clearly distressed. โI donโt know. She was... different. Something new, something I had never known. But it wasnโt love, it wasnโt... you.โ He knelt in front of you again, his hands gripping yours tightly, but without hurting you. โNothing ever came close to you. I was a fool for letting this come so close.โ
You looked at him, your face still unreadable, but your eyes starting to shine. โWhat if I had stayed away longer? What if it were someone else, Alexei? How can I trust that this wonโt happen again?โ
Alexei remained kneeling in front of you, his eyes glowing with a desperation that seemed to suck the air out of the room. He didnโt move, neither closer nor farther, as if even the slightest shift could break the fragile connection that still existed between you.
โYou are everything to me,โ he repeated, his voice heavy with raw vulnerability. โBut I know that just saying that isnโt enough. I know I canโt erase what I did, the pain I caused.โ
You didnโt answer immediately. Your mind was in turmoil, each of his words crashing against the walls of your own pain, echoing. Finally, almost in a whisper, you asked, โDid you... did you two ever...โ
Your voice faltered before you could finish the sentence, but the meaning was clear. Alexeiโs eyes widened, as if the question had cut deeper than anything else. He shook his head quickly, almost frantic.
โNo,โ he said firmly, his voice a little louder, but still choked. โNever. I never did that. I never even kissed her.โ He swallowed hard, lowering his gaze for a moment before meeting your eyes again. โI was a fool, a complete idiot for letting her occupy so much space in my head, but it wasnโt... physical. It wasnโt love. It was... it was a weakness of mine, a fascination with something I didnโt even know I was seeking. And I hate myself for it. I hate myself for hurting you this way.โ
You felt the weight of every word, the warmth of his sincerity reaching something deep within you, but the pain was still there, alive and pulsing.
Alexei leaned in slightly, his hands still holding yours, but loosely, as if preparing for the inevitable moment when you would pull away. โIโd give anything to go back in time, to make the right choices from the start. To never have allowed anything to come between us. But all I can do now is this. Ask, beg for a chance to be better for you.โ
His eyes shone, tears threatening to fall, but he didnโt look away, as if he couldnโt allow himself to hide anything from you. When he finally moved, it was to wrap his arms around your waist, a hesitant, almost fearful gesture.
โPlease,โ he whispered against the fabric of the robe you were wearing. โPlease, tell me thereโs still something in your heart that will let me fix this.โ
You stood still, your body rigid as if you were trying to decide what to do. He didnโt dare move any further, his face hidden against you, breathing deeply as if it were the last time he could do so.
And then, almost imperceptibly, you raised your hand, your fingers hesitantly touching his hair. It was a small gesture, but to Alexei, it felt as though the whole world had stopped. He lifted his face, surprised, but didnโt say anything.
Your fingers threaded through his blonde hair, the touch soft, but steady, and something in him gave way. He closed his eyes, resting his forehead against your stomach as he let out a sigh that sounded almost like a sob.
โI donโt know what to do,โ you admitted, your voice low but filled with emotion. โI donโt know how to get past this, Alexei. But... I canโt stop loving you.โ
He lifted his gaze to you, his eyes misty, but with a spark of hope. โI donโt need you to know right now,โ he said, his voice trembling. โI just need you to let me try. Let me prove that I will never disappoint you again.โ
The silence that followed was thick, but not empty. It was full of all the unspoken things, all the emotions that still needed room to exist between you.
Finally, you nodded slightly, the gesture almost imperceptible, but enough for him to understand. He didnโt smile, as if he knew there was still no room for joy, but the tension in his shoulders eased, and he held you more firmly in his arms without hurting you.
โThank you,โ he murmured, so softly that you almost didnโt hear it, but the weight of that word hung in the air between you, carrying all the love, regret, and promise he had to offer.
The night was calm, wrapped in a stillness broken only by the soft sound of rain against the windows. You were in Natashaโs room, the little oneโs hair illuminated by the warm light of the lamp. She was lying on the bed, hugging the battered teddy bear she insisted on carrying everywhere.
โNow close your eyes, my love,โ you said, your voice low and gentle as you adjusted the blanket around her small body. โItโs time to sleep.โ
โWill you sing for me?โ she asked, her eyes, identical to Alexeiโs, shining with expectation.
You smiled, a small but genuine smile, as you began to hum a melody your mother used to sing to you. Her little hand held yours, as if that gesture were essential to the moment.
The door creaked softly as it opened, and Alexei stopped in the doorway, his tall figure illuminated by the hallway light. He hesitated when he saw her there, his eyes resting on the scene with an expression of tenderness so raw that it seemed to contradict the strength of his presence.
For a moment, he considered turning back, letting that moment belong only to the two of you. But then Natasha turned her head, her sleep-messy hair spreading across the pillow.
โDaddy,โ she called, a sleepy smile lighting up her face. โAre you going to put me to sleep too?โ
Her request was an unexpected bridge between the two of you. Alexei looked at you, a silent question in his clear eyes, the same ones Natasha had inherited. There was something so vulnerable in his gaze that the air seemed to grow a little heavier.
You nodded almost imperceptibly, making space beside the bed. He stepped into the room, each movement carrying a rare hesitation from him. When he approached, Natasha reached out her arms, and he leaned in to kiss her forehead before sitting beside the bed, opposite you.
โNow weโre all here,โ she said, content, holding both of your hands.
โDoes that mean youโre going to sleep for real now?โ Alexei asked, his tone soft but tinged with amusement.
She shook her head, a mischievous smile appearing. โBut I like when youโre both here with me. Daddy, mommy...โ
The sound of that word hit him like a sweet blow. Mommy. It was simple, but hearing it from his daughterโs lips, in the context of that intimate scene, felt like a reminder of everything he was trying to protect.
Natasha shifted between you, her eyes slowly closing as she mumbled random words about the day. โI want a brother,โ she murmured suddenly, her eyes blinking lazily before closing again.
Alexei let out a soft laugh, surprised, and looked at you. โA brother, huh?โ
โYes,โ Natasha answered with a yawn, her eyes already closed. โTo play with me.โ
You and Alexei exchanged a glance, his expression softening in a way that rarely happened. When she finally fell asleep, her breath light and steady, he carefully adjusted her in the bed, leaving a kiss on the top of her head before standing up.
He moved closer to you, extending his hand to help you rise. You accepted, and he didnโt immediately release your hand, holding it between his as if afraid that the moment might slip away.
โSheโs just like you,โ you commented, your voice low as you looked at Natasha.
โNo,โ he replied, his eyes fixed on the small, sleeping face. โSheโs the best of both of us.โ
There was a comfortable silence between you, the usual tension replaced by something softer, more hopeful. He looked at you, his clear eyes carrying a tenderness that seemed almost shy.
โAbout what she saidโฆโ he started, hesitating for a moment.
โAlexei,โ you interrupted, your tone almost exasperated but with a small smile.
โI know, I know,โ he said, raising his hands in surrender, but his smile was back, something rare and so genuine that it made your heart ache.
The door to Natashaโs room closed softly, muffling the sound of her calm breathing. You and Alexei stayed in the hallway for a moment, as if the moment required silence, a reverence for the scene you had just shared. He seemed to hesitate, his hands sliding into the pockets of his suit jacket, a nervous gesture you knew well.
โSheโs always known how to disarm us,โ you commented, breaking the silence, your voice low but full of tenderness.
He looked at you, the corners of his lips curving into a nearly shy smile. โItโs an innate talent. I donโt think she got that from me.โ
โMaybe from me, then,โ you replied, your tone playful, something he hadnโt heard in a long time.
His smile widened, but there was something deeper in his eyes, something that kept him quiet for too long. You were about to ask what he was thinking when he turned slightly, his body leaning as though about to leave.
โAlexei.โ
He stopped immediately, turning to face you again. You took a deep breath, gathering the words you wanted to say.
โYou donโt have to go back to the other room,โ you said, your voice soft but carrying something more. โIf you want... you can come back to our room.โ
The words came out before you could reconsider, and for a moment, the silence in the hallway seemed absolute. Alexei blinked, disbelief written on his face, as if he wasnโt sure heโd heard you correctly.
โIs that what you want?โ he asked, his voice so low it was barely a whisper.
You looked at him for a moment, your eyes searching his, which seemed to scan every nuance of your expression. โItโs a step, Alexei,โ you replied, sincere. โI think weโre ready to take a step.โ
He let out a breath that seemed to have been held for a long time, his shoulders relaxing a bit. โI...โ He stopped, shaking his head as if the words were too difficult.
โAnd besides,โ you continued, your voice light but carrying something almost mischievous, โif we really want to give Natasha a sibling, I think it makes more sense for us to be in the same room, donโt you think?โ
His eyes widened, surprised, and for a moment, he stood completely still, as if the words had been a shock he hadnโt expected.
โYou...โ He started but didnโt finish, his gaze fixed on your face as if trying to process the subtle, but significant change.
You raised an eyebrow, the playful look returning to your expression, something he immediately recognized. โItโs just a practical matter,โ you finished, your voice slightly provocative.
He stepped forward, the hesitation giving way to something more determined, his gaze intense and fixed on yours. โPractical,โ he repeated, as if testing the word.
The air around you seemed to carry a familiar tension, something that had always been there but now felt more tangible, more urgent. You saw the shadow of a smile play at the corners of his lips, and you couldnโt resist.
โYouโre taking this very seriously, Alexei,โ you teased, your voice lower now, only to be interrupted.
He leaned in, his lips meeting yours with an intensity that made your heart race. The kiss was both tender and desperate, as if he were pouring everything he couldnโt say into words. Your hands went to his shoulders, a gesture to steady yourself, but instead of pushing him away, you pulled him closer, allowing yourself to finally give in to the moment.
When you pulled apart, your breaths were shallow, and Alexei kept his forehead pressed to yours. โYou have no idea how long Iโve waited for this,โ he murmured, his voice hoarse, full of emotion.
The night seemed silent, the kind of silence that embraced the house like a heavy blanket, protecting the sounds that belonged only to that space. The room you once shared was almost exactly as before, but something felt different now. It was the same space, but it carried the weight of everything you had lived throughโand survived.
Alexei was sitting at the edge of the bed, his elbows resting on his knees, watching you as you took off your robe and prepared to lie down. His gaze was intense, but not unsettling. It was a gaze of reverence, as if he couldnโt believe he was here again.
โItโs strange, isnโt it?โ you asked, breaking the silence, your voice soft but full of emotion.
He looked up at you, a small smile appearing on his lips. โStrange... and familiar at the same time.โ
You moved closer slowly, feeling the warmth radiating from him even before you sat down beside him. For a moment, you stayed there, side by side, your hands almost touching. The small space between you seemed heavy, but also filled with something newโhope.
โI thought about this so much,โ he murmured, turning slightly to face you. โAbout what it would be like... having you here again. Being with you like this.โ
โAnd how is it?โ you asked, your playful tone trying to mask the vulnerability behind the question.
He chuckled softly, but there was a gleam in his eyes, something deeply sincere. โItโs better than I allowed myself to imagine.โ
You felt your heart tighten, but it was a different kind of tightness now, something less painful and closer to healing. You reached out to him, your fingers touching his gently. He intertwined his fingers with yours, the gesture so familiar it brought tears to your eyes.
โAlexei...โ you started, but he interrupted you, his eyes fixed on yours.
โI know,โ he said, his voice soft but firm. โI know it will take time. That this is just the beginning. But please, tell me thereโs a beginning.โ
You nodded, feeling your throat tighten with emotion. โThereโs a beginning,โ you replied, your voice almost a whisper.
He leaned forward, his forehead touching yours, and the world seemed to shrink to that moment, to that touch. โI wonโt fail you again,โ he promised, his voice heavy with something so deep that it made your eyes well up with tears.
โI know,โ you said, the sincerity of your voice making him close his eyes for a moment, as if he were absorbing it.
You both moved together to lie down, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. When Alexei pulled the covers over you, he did it with the same care as always, as if every small gesture had meaning. You curled up next to him, his body fitting to yours as if it had never stopped being like that.
He ran his fingers through your hair, untangling the strands that had come loose throughout the day, the movements slow and almost reverent. โI feel like Iโm holding a piece of the future in my hands,โ he murmured, almost to himself.
โAnd what do you see in that future, Alexei?โ you asked, lifting your gaze to meet his.
He smiled, the kind of smile that made your heart tighten with both longing and hope at the same time. โI see us. Natasha... maybe a little brother for her, if you still want,โ he added, his tone lightly teasing, but his eyes shining with tenderness.
You laughed, a light and almost new sound. โMaybe,โ you replied, teasing. โBut one step at a time, right?โ
He leaned in, his lips brushing your forehead in a gesture that seemed to carry all the promises in the world. โRight,โ he agreed, his voice soft and full of emotion.
Silence fell again, but it was a different silence now. It was a silence of peace, of new beginnings. And as you curled even closer, your hearts beating in a slow, synchronized rhythm, you knew you were finally finding your way back to each other.

my names aurora, but you can call me rora .แ
some things to note before you venture into my blog even more;
i go by she/her; but im not that sensitive about it โ call me whatever. i may write under dark theme but please note that this is all fiction, none of it is real (sadly i know).
i do take requests but i will pick and choose to my liking โ if it is under themes that i quite literally cannot bring myself to write, i won't write it.
somethings im not comfortable with:
piss kinks
necrophilia
maschalagnia
misogyny
rape kinks
by all means, this is an open space, feel free to ask me anything you want. comments, reblogs, and likes, are very much appreciated. i love it so much, i might even print your comment out and paste them on my walls.
and please do note, some of my works are directed to mature audiences, i am not responsible for whatever it is that you read, but i will warn you before you continue any further.
if you see me doing asks anywhere, you did not. you were just overthinking it.
& that's pretty much it... have fun .แ

marauders as things my friends and i have said
James [getting his essay back from Remus]: So what do you think?
Remus: It's good, the evidence you used was pretty good, but your argument itself was a bit vague
James [frustrated]: Why do we have to argue? Why can't we all just be friends!
it was moony, WORMTAIL, padfoot and prongs, and i'm sick of people pretending it wasn't.
They wouldn't have put peter's name second in the list if he wasn't as much a part of the group as the other three. peter wasn't an afterthought, the marauders weren't a trio. yes, he betrayed them, but not until years later. years after the map had been made and years after they'd shared a dorm. they were just four best friends against the world - moony, WORMTAIL, padfoot and prongs.
