To the anon who asked if the cats at the cafe are adoptable, here's a small demo of how that will work. You can adopt only once/one cat per save file.
But what you can do an infinite amount of times is change your cat's accessory, so if you gave it a collar and later want to have it wear a bow or flower, or change the color of the bow/flower/collar, you can do that any time from your apartment wardrobe.
Before you can adopt a cat you have to get it to a friendly status with you at the cafe, by playing with it (use the laser pointer, I'll probably add a feather toy or something too).
Cat cafe is a key element of boyfriend option Yurei's route; playing with the cats and adopting one will get you points with him. More on that later!
I'm also working on a little special something for people who donate to the game, that will be related to cat cafe.
Unrelated note here, I don't know how many people have been paying attention to the in-game clock in the videos, but some may have noticed that before it was moving like...crazy fast, a second for a minute. I realize that would make crazy pacing in the game and probably be stressful. Right now I have it set to pass in real time, so a minute in the game takes a minute in real life.
BUT you can fast forward time with various in game activities so you're not time-gated (you can skip 8 hours by sleeping, or 2 hours with a nap, as a couple of examples).
Edit: Also, time passage is not tied to your computer's clock or anything like that. Time doesn't pass in the game unless you are actually running the game (it's not like Animal Crossing for example, where time passes in the game whether you are playing or not).
Small demonstration of cooking in 2-Headed Boy. Before you can unlock cooking, you have to get the recipe books for the things you want to cook. You can't just buy them; you'll have to find them playing through the story.
Moreover, produce ingredients are seasonal so some ingredients will only be available for certain times of the year. Ingredients don't expire/decay/"go bad" though, so you can stock up on whatever produce is in season for cooking later!
Recipes are greyed out in the menu if you don't have enough of all the ingredients to cook that thing. If you haven't cooked the recipe before, it will have a weird vague name. After cooking it for the first time it will display the real recipe name.
There are 25 recipes, as shown in the top right of the cooking menu. The top number (here showing 25/25, or 100%) is how many recipes you've collected (in my demo here, I have all of them). The bottom number (starting here at 0/25 or 0%) shows how many unique recipes you have cooked.
I've also entered the favorite and least favorite foods for each of the love interests into the social media menu. These are hidden from the player until you learn what they are while playing the game (you can learn these from various methods, it might be during a conversation, by giving a gift, by cooking something for a love interest, or maybe some other way).
I don't want to limit crafting to just cooking though, I would maybe like to add some other crafty category, something else the player could make for the guys that would be cute, but I'm not sure what yet?
And as I'm looking at this video I'm realizing I need to adjust the lighting for late afternoon/early evening as well. Still a bit too red...
Also added an option to the options menu for changing message speed in the game, in case you want the dialogue/on-screen text to display faster (or slower??) or even instantly (rather than it "scrolling" across the message window). A very basic feature, so basic it should be a given, but it didn't occur to me to add it until now. So...yep
I know I said haunted house was next, but I decided to start the cat cafe first. Working on the haunted house today though. (Also cat cafe isn't done, obviously there has to be more cats etc.)
Since Steam wants a minimum of 5 screenshots, I'm trying to get a little more map variety for that so it doesn't look like the whole game takes place on a handful of maps. After I get something presentable for the haunted house I think that will give me enough to submit my upcoming game page to them for review!
I started adding shops and items beyond just the food court to the Midnight City Mall, plus a few aimlessly wandering NPCs.
There's the book/plushie store and clothing store made so far, planning an electronic store and a shoe store next, along with a little noodle shop. Unfortunately all the items besides food are only gifts for your love interests for now (you can't equip clothing and have your character change outfits). Maybe after I release the game I'll patch that in, but for now I'm trying to mainly focus on features that directly impact gameplay/the storylines (gifts being a mechanic for boosting stats with love interests).
I also have a crafting/cooking system, and those gifts give better stat boosts with the love interests than shopping, but I haven't implemented the recipes/ingredients for those yet.
Also I finally actually put the banking system into the ATMs. Player gets a fixed amount of money every Friday deposited to their account, so you will need to budget somewhat in-game. Will add small ways to make extra money too at some point!
It's h a p p e n i n g
Will probably be up all night working on my Steam page stuff
Worked on the light effects for 2-Headed Boy today. Before, the city lights would only turn on/off when the player loaded into a new map (depending on the in-game time during that map load), but that seemed pretty awkward. I mean, what if you're hanging out on the same map from daytime until it's supposed to be dark?
The map would get dark before, but the city lights wouldn't come on and the open/closed shop signs wouldn't switch without changing what area you're in, which could get confusing. If you were standing outside the mall and the business hours passed, the sign wouldn't light up "closed" instead of "open" unless you went into a building and came back out for example.
But now, light effects are dynamic! Streetlights come on when night falls whether you change map or not. Open/closed signs come on when they're supposed to for your MC's local businesses.
And the window lights for that weird fenced off condemned house.
Probably more important than all of that though, is the game now has a more eye-friendly font! Plus, a handy window in the top corner so you can always know the date, time, and season.
You also might have noticed it says it's October in the video, but the season is winter; I manually changed the season to winter without bothering to match the month, just to show off the winter map. But the game starts in October, and so will start on the fall map :)
See my face when I slide through,
Every place I will find you
Every time we fell apart,
Girl, I see it in the scars
Added another love interest/rival to yandere for my yandere boyfriend RPG. New guy is Shinkiro (black hair), birthday August 24. Unlike Yurei (white haired glasses boy), Shinkiro is more outgoing and shameless. Yurei will try to avoid the yandere, and try to convince the player to also avoid him, pointing out his toxic behaviors. Shinkiro will deliberately antagonize yandere boy by flirting/being openly affectionate with the player in front of him.
Featuring a fully customizable MC for the player (gender, appearance, name, birthday and more). Free to play, WIP.
I am mom's spaghetti palms sweaty right now, was up into the wee hours of the morning with my game after realizing One Drive (Microsoft's "helpful" cloud syncing it pushes) was autosyncing all my game files (and other less important files) while I had them open working on them :')
I'll spare everyone the details of why that's bad but the tldr is it almost corrupted my whole game, but I fixed it and only lost some very basic formatting (in game menu adjustments and the font settings, which I am replacing anyway with something more readable). And a few small edits to some json files which again are easy to redo.
I already back up my game to a flash drive (yeah, I know I need to get Github) so I've banished One Drive from my desktop since there's no reason for it to be there.
Definitely don't recommend allowing One Drive to autosync files while you are actively working in any kind of database. Unfortunate that I didn't realize this was happening until it started giving me all these issues!
You're not a literal nobody, thank you for putting so much time and effort into making such a beautiful game, omg ;-;
Nnng my heart
Thank you everyone who got me to 100 reblogs!
2-Headed Boy is also on YouTube and TikTok! If anyone wants to help me out with getting a little visibility on those (especially YouTube, that one seems extra challenging) give me a follow/a like or 2 on those to help spread the good word!
And here is the TikTok :)
Fixed the sprites for love interest Shinkiro, I accidentally made his skin peach-colored before. Now he's grey, just as God intended. Or y'know, whoever.
