The Perfect Blend

The scent of chocolate and anticipation hung heavy in the air, a stark contrast to the usual sterile atmosphere of Hope's Peak Academy. Valentine's Day had descended upon the once-dreary halls, transforming them into a pastel-colored battlefield of sugary treats and nervous confessions. Hajime Hinata, despite his proclaimed disinterest in such frivolous occasions, found himself inexplicably caught in its undertow. He fidgeted with the small, meticulously wrapped box in his pocket, a swirl of anxiety and something akin to excitement bubbling in his chest.

He’d spent the better part of the week agonizing over what to get Makoto Naegi. Chocolates felt cliché, flowers too flamboyant. He’d even considered a set of high-quality tools, a nod to Makoto’s surprising talent for fixing anything mechanical, but ultimately decided against it. He’d finally settled on a collection of rare coffee beans, knowing Makoto’s love for a good brew. He just hoped it was… enough.

He spotted Makoto near the courtyard’s cherry blossom tree, a splash of vibrant green amidst the pale pink petals. He was surrounded by a small group of girls, each vying for his attention with brightly wrapped gifts and blushing smiles. Hajime sighed internally. Of course. Makoto, with his earnest charm and unwavering optimism, was a magnet for affection. Hajime felt a pang of something akin to jealousy, a feeling he quickly shoved down. He wasn’t entitled to Makoto’s attention, not really. They were friends, close friends, but nothing more. Or at least, that’s what Hajime told himself.

He watched as Makoto politely accepted the gifts, his face flushed and a little overwhelmed. He navigated the situation with his usual grace, thanking each girl profusely and making sure everyone felt appreciated. Hajime admired that about him. Makoto had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued. It was one of the many things Hajime admired, and maybe, just maybe, one of the things that made his heart flutter a little faster.

As the group dispersed, Makoto turned, his eyes landing on Hajime. A wide, genuine smile spread across his face, chasing away the slight tension from the earlier interaction.

“Hinata perfect timing!” Makoto called out, waving him over. “I was just thinking about you.”

Hajime’s heart did a little flip. He forced himself to walk casually towards Makoto, trying to suppress the nervous flutter in his stomach.

“Hey,” he mumbled, shoving his hands into his pockets. “What’s up?”

“I just got a mountain of chocolates,” Makoto chuckled, gesturing to the overflowing bag at his feet. “I’m going to be sugared up for weeks! I was hoping I could share some with you later.”

“Sure,” Hajime replied, trying to sound nonchalant. He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, suddenly feeling incredibly awkward. He pulled the small box from his pocket, holding it out to Makoto.

“Happy Valentine’s Day,” he said, his voice a little rough.

Makoto’s eyes widened in surprise. He took the box, his fingers brushing against Hajime’s. A jolt of electricity shot through Hajime, making him jump slightly.

“Wow, Hinata! You got me something?” Makoto’s eyes sparkled with excitement. He carefully unwrapped the box, revealing the collection of coffee beans nestled inside. “These look amazing! Where did you even find these?”

“A little specialty shop downtown,” Hajime explained, feeling a wave of relief wash over him. He was glad Makoto liked them. “I know you’re a coffee fanatic.”

Makoto’s smile widened. “This is perfect, Hajime! Thank you so much. You really shouldn’t have.”

“It’s nothing,” Hajime mumbled, his cheeks flushing slightly.

“It’s not nothing,” Makoto insisted. “It’s really thoughtful. I really appreciate it.”

He held the box close to his chest, his eyes filled with warmth. Hajime’s heart did another somersault. He couldn’t help but stare at Makoto’s smile, the way it lit up his entire face.

“I… I wanted to get you something you’d actually use,” Hajime stammered. “Something you’d enjoy.”

“I will,” Makoto assured him. “I’ll think of you every time I brew a cup.”

Hajime’s blush deepened. He didn’t know what to say. He was suddenly acutely aware of how close they were standing, the scent of Makoto’s shampoo – a subtle blend of citrus and something warm and comforting – filling his senses.

“Hey,” Makoto said softly, breaking the silence. He reached into his own bag, pulling out a small, clumsily wrapped package. “I got you something too.”

Hajime’s eyes widened in surprise. He hadn’t expected anything in return. He took the gift, his fingers trembling slightly.

“I… you didn’t have to,” he said.

“I wanted to,” Makoto replied, his smile gentle. “Open it.”

Hajime carefully unwrapped the gift, revealing a small, hand-painted ceramic mug. It was a simple design, a pale blue background with a single, stylized sunflower in the center.

“I saw it and it reminded me of you,” Makoto explained, his voice a little shy. “Sunflowers always seem so… hopeful.”

Hajime’s heart swelled. He stared at the mug, a wave of emotion washing over him. He didn’t know what to say. He was touched, deeply touched, by Makoto’s thoughtfulness.

“It’s… it’s perfect,” he finally managed to say, his voice thick with emotion. He looked up at Makoto, his eyes meeting his. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” Makoto whispered, his gaze lingering on Hajime’s.

The air between them crackled with unspoken feelings. The cherry blossoms fluttered around them, a gentle snowfall of pink petals. For a moment, the world seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them, standing beneath the cherry blossom tree, surrounded by the sweet scent of spring and the quiet hum of unspoken love.

Hajime took a deep breath, gathering his courage. He knew he had to say something, anything. He couldn’t let this moment pass by.

“Makoto,” he began, his voice barely a whisper. “There’s something I… something I’ve been wanting to tell you for a while now.”

Makoto’s eyes widened, his breath catching in his throat. He waited, his gaze fixed on Hajime’s.

Hajime’s heart pounded in his chest. He took another deep breath, trying to calm his nerves.

“I…” he started, then hesitated. He looked at Makoto’s gentle eyes, his earnest expression. He knew he couldn’t mess this up.

“I really like you, Makoto,” he blurted out, the words tumbling out in a rush. “More than a friend. I… I think I’m in love with you.”

A moment of silence hung in the air, thick with anticipation. Hajime’s heart pounded in his ears, he could barely breathe. He waited, his eyes searching Makoto’s face for any sign of his reaction.

Makoto’s eyes widened, his cheeks flushing a delicate pink. He opened his mouth to speak, then closed it again, as if searching for the right words.

Finally, he spoke, his voice soft and hesitant.

“Hinata,” he began, “I… I like you too.”

Hajime’s breath hitched. He stared at Makoto, his eyes filled with disbelief.

“You… you do?” he whispered.

Makoto nodded, his cheeks flushing even brighter. “Yes,” he said softly. “I do.”

A wave of relief washed over Hajime, so intense it almost made him weak. He couldn’t stop the smile that spread across his face.

“I… I don’t know what to say,” he stammered.

“You don’t have to say anything,” Makoto replied, his smile warm and genuine. He reached out, his hand gently taking Hajime’s. “Just… be with me.”

Hajime squeezed Makoto’s hand, his heart overflowing with happiness. He looked at Makoto, his eyes filled with love and affection.

“I will,” he whispered. “I promise.”

They stood there, hand in hand, beneath the cherry blossom tree, the gentle breeze carrying the sweet scent of spring. The world around them seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them, bathed in the soft glow of the afternoon sun. It was a perfect Valentine’s Day, a day that Hajime would never forget. A day that marked the beginning of something beautiful, something special, something that Hajime knew would last a lifetime. He had found his hope, not in some grand, world-saving event, but in the gentle smile of the boy standing beside him, his hand warm in his.

Voice Actor Comments: Danganronpa 1

Short comments from the voice actors of characters in Danganronpa THH. Jack and Junko do not have one, but they share VAs with Toko and Mukuro respectively. Monokuma doesn’t have one for the first game, but will for the second. VA names and names in quotes are written surname first.

Aoi Asahina VA: Saitou Chiwa (斎藤 千和)

“She’s so cute!” was my first impression of “Asahina Aoi”. She was a straightforward, refreshing, and pleasant girl. Particularly in Chapter 4, where she becomes friends with Oogami Sakura, the relationship between the two is clearly shown and memorable. In the class trial scene, it was difficult to find the balance in “speaking quickly” and “speaking clearly”. “Danganronpa” is a work I personally really like, and Asahina is my favorite character. I would be happy if you could continue to support us for a long time to come.

Byakuya Togami VA: Ishida Akira (石田 彰)

"Togami Byakuya" is a very intelligent character, whose qualities are different from those of ordinary people. He understands that himself, and doesn’t try to use his intelligence to reduce feuding with those around him, so he comes across as a very sarcastic guy (laugh). It will be even more rewarding if you uncover mysteries or clues, please keep this in mind. As for the “sequel”, your imagination may be put to the test...

Celestia Ludenberg VA: Shiina Hekiru (椎名 へきる)

“Celes” is a girl who is mysterious yet cute, with an enigmatic atmosphere. One chapter reveals a different side of her, with lines I had never spoken before, and I found the amplitude of range and integrity of this style to be cool and endearing. The surreal and stylish design of the entire main story, along with the wonderful cast are also highlights. Everyone please support us by publishing a “doujinshi (!)” at an event! I look forward to seeing you again.

Chihiro Fujisaki VA: Miyata Kouki (宮田 幸季)

"Fujisaki Chihiro" was a very difficult role, and every scene was memorable. In the class trial part, I put a lot of emphasis on capturing the sense of urgency, and was especially conscious of this in the serious scenes. Those who have already played the game will know that it's a really crazy story, with some parts that will make you go "Huh!?". If you haven't yet, please check it out! I hope that with everyone's support, the media mix will continue to expand in a variety of ways.

Hifumi Yamada VA: Yamaguchi Kappei (山口 勝平)

"Yamada Hifumi" is a character type I haven't played until now, I was particularly overwhelmed by the design, and thought I would be more confused, but I had fun acting. In his case, I think it's more interesting to just go with the flow and energy of the moment, rather than formulating a performance. I hope you enjoy the story to the fullest.

Kiyotaka Ishimaru VA: Toriumi Kousuke (鳥海 浩輔)

My impression of "Ishimaru Kiyotaka" can be summed up in one word "hot”. Rather than a specific scene, what was most memorable was the fact that he was screaming throughout. He is always “Ishimaru-kun”, no matter the situation. To all the users who play, please enjoy it.

Kyoko Kirigiri VA: Hikasa Youko (日笠 陽子)

At first, I had the impression that "Kyoko Kirigiri" was a cool, calm and collected character, but as I played the role, I felt the passion that was hidden within her. Specifically, the scene where she was suspected of being the culprit was quite memorable. When I act, I try to be careful to make sure my words have a sharpness that stabs the other person. I hope that the “Danganronpa” world continues!

Leon Kuwata VA: Sakurai Takahiro (櫻井 孝宏)

“Kuwata Leon” is a flashy, fun character. He's stupid, but charming... that's what I think (laugh). Dubbing him is like a sport, and I sweat profusely every time I perform it. Everyone, I hope you enjoy this work and feel the sweat put into it.

Makoto Naegi VA: Ogata Megumi (緒方 恵美)

"Danganronpa" was able to come this far thanks to everyone's support, thank you very much. For those who are playing for the first time, did you enjoy this game, full of unique characters and lines? I hope that after fully enjoying the main story, you will also enjoy the various media mix developments.

Mondo Owada VA: Nakai Kazuya (中井 和哉)

My impression of “Oowada Mondo” was “intense!”. Even if you just look at the visual impact, he’s clearly a bad guy, not seen in many modern games. I wondered if he would stand out from the crowd, but the other members are just as intense. That's why it feels good no matter how many times I perform it. I love "lovable idiots" (laugh). This series has been well received by everyone, so please look forward to future developments!

Mukuro Ikusaba VA: Toyoguchi Megumi (豊口 めぐみ)

Since I was playing the role of a "gal," I was able to relax and play the role in a good way (laugh). Considering her character, I thought she would be the type who speaks before thinking, so she would act intensely in the class trial. However, she had fewer lines than expected in the main story due to certain circumstances... I worked hard on the performance, including the media mix development, so I hope you enjoy it.

Sakura Ogami VA: Kujira (くじら)

My impression of playing "Ogami Sakura" was “cool high school girl...interesting”! The "suicide note scene" was particularly memorable. Did you pay attention to the tempo in the class trial scenes? I would like Naegi-kun to refute many things. I think "Danganronpa" is quite rewarding.

Sayaka Maizono VA: Oomoto Makiko (大本 眞基子)

My impression of “Maizono Sayaka” is that she is a very honest, gentle, and cute girl. You feel like you want to protect her, her excitement in being Naegi-kun’s assistant is the most memorable part. Enjoy the pleasure of debating, and have fun playing the main story ♪ We look forward to your continued support of “Danganronpa”. Even so, being lively makes me feel at peace (laugh).

Toko Fukawa VA: Sawashiro Miyuki (沢城 みゆき)

"Fukawa Touko" uses a lot of curse words and abusive language, and she is more memorable as a whole than as any individual scene. However, I get the sense that she is also a normal 16-year-old high school girl who is filled with love and an inferiority complex. Since the persona that comes out on the surface is so venomous, she comes across as a very depressed character, but I had fun playing her (laugh).

Yasuhiro Hagakure VA: Matsukaze Masaya (松風 雅也)

When I looked at the materials beforehand, I thought it would be a cheerful and relaxed style, but in the main story I was like, “This is not the time to be that relaxed!” I won't say the specific chapter, but the scene where he was at the center of the incident, or rather, caught up in it, was the most rewarding to act. The class trial is played with consideration given to the tempo and the lines before and after, so please enjoy it. We look forward to your continued support in the future!
