I hate fanon-ization of Lily, James, Regulus and Barty (Evan, Dorcas, Marlene etc. are literally only mentioned in the books, there is nothing to mis-characterize)
Lily is side-lined for a non-existent, non-sensical ship (yeah, I hate jegulus), her Muggle origin is overlooked even though it played a MAJOR role in her life (heck the entire Marauders era takes place during the war against a wizard-supremacist, Muggle-hater and his racist followers). Her relationship with Snape and how his words and newly found ideologies affected is completely overlooked when he was her only magical friend during her entire childhood. Her relationship to her son? (yk, that one thing that set the entire series in motion...) - pfft, don't be silly, she is just a surrogate to James and Regulus.
James is portrayed as a ray of sunshine, good boy whose biggest sin was being a bit sarcastic. No, he WAS an arrogant asshole who mercilessly bullied another student simply for his own enjoyment. Yet he was also incredibly loyal man who didn't hesitate to share his home with his friend after he ran away from home and who grew out of his arrogant phase and changed himself for better because of a woman he loved (loved so much he died protecting her and their son later).
Regulus is portrayed as an edgy yet kind-hearted little aristocrat boy whose parents forced him into being a Death Eater - no, he wasn't pressured into becoming anything, Regulus for the longest part of his life WAS a Voldemort supporter. He collected newspaper articles about Voldemort, he talked to Kreacher about how great Voldemort is and how great his ideas were - yes, he realized later he was wrong but it doesn't suddenly mean he was pressured into anything.
Barty is portrayed as a silly little babygirl who has an IQ of goldfish. No, he was one of the smartest characters with multiple talents but was also a mentaly-unstable young man (Azkaban/Dementors have horrific influence on everyone but while other Death Eaters managed to last 10+ years there he was already on his death-bed in a year and started to scream for him mother the same day he was brought in) who went completely insane and evil by the end and craved for father figure so deeply he was ready to become a murderer/torturer to get one. His manipulativeness and sadism? Non-existent in fanon...
In the end... I truly dislike the overall state of "Marauders era" fandom - like, they are a generation impacted by war and ever-changing politics who essentially needed to choose a side while they were still children, some betraying their families and loved ones - and then you try seeing stuff in Marauders fandom and they are turned into edgy teens who all wear crop-tops and black nail polish, listen to Taylor, go to Starbucks and talk in a Tik-Tok slang....
Im in a mood so im just gonna rant about jegulus
(tbh i think it’s cute and i like it as a background ship but I hate how it’s taking over the entire fandom)
Regulus denyed his crush on James, but James always flirts with him. I always see fanart with reg threatening to hex james and james just being like “i want to kiss him”
SOUND FAMILIAR? THIS LITERALLY WAS THE JILY DYNAMIC!?!?!?!
Fanon turn Reg from an awesome complex character into Lily in another font. The sarcastic, book loving personality. The younger sibling who just wants to be enough, but is never seen that way by their older sibling. The person who secretly loved James’s obnoxious flirting. The black cat girlfriend/boyfriend to the golden retriever boyfriend. Oh, and fanon always makes regulus very short- always around what would be lily’s height.
The only reason Jegulus is more popular than Jily, or ships like Dorlene and Nobleflower (Same dynamic as Jegulus) is because Reg is a guy, because of the fandom’s misogyny.
Why are people so delusional when it comes to the hp or marauders era fandom? Every single time I look up jily or jily supremcy in tiktok it's always some jegulily/ jegulus BS like some of y'all are deep in the delusion and headcannons. Why are people trying to replace Lily? Why are ppl making Sirius this super feminine man when he's not that? Why are ppl making Remus super aggressive? And making James the literal devil towards snape and then a people pleaser towards everyone else. And peter non existent? What are y'all doing!?
These are not the same characters any more. Once again the whole theme of hp/ marauders is love. James and Lily loving each other despite the danger that comes with it. They love Harry and Harry loves them. The marauders being best friends in school. The golden trio. The grief that came for Sirus, Remus, and Harry regarding James and Lily . The betrayal of Peter. This story isn't about DE and their "sad, horrendous" back stories. It's about Lily, James and Harry.
Shipping James or Lily with any DE character requires you to ignore their morals and ideologies against the pure blood DE characters to make it work. You would have to change everything about them.
Lily and James died for their son. They most likely knew the risk of having a baby, getting married, staying together but they did it anyway. James, a pure blood wizard put a target on his own back just because he was in love with a muggle born woman. Lily already had a target on her back when she came to Hogwarts.
These DE characters can be down right sadistic and evil and some ppl will still ship these characters. In reality these characters would kill each other on sight. And some will say "it's all fake anyway, let people ship" but that's the problem
Fiction relates to reality. Stories, poems, movies are all related to real situations, people, places and ideas, that's why some people can see themselves in certain stories. And by making these problematic ships, some ppl think it's cool and okay to let these situations happen irl.
It's not just shipping, it's an idea that could turn into action.
Lily and James are so important and ppl that don't like them don't understand them. Like without them Harry wouldn't exist. There literally wouldn't be a story. James and Lily being together went against everything the DE pure bloods believed in. Having a kid together was an act of defiance. James and Lily marrying each other despite a whole war going on is like the bravest thing they could've done. The point is Lily and James are the base, the standard, the originals.
The doe and the stag
Comes from people who don't engage with fanon, so they think of canon James and Regulus and cannot comprehend why or how it became so popular.
The funniest thing about jegulus haters is that they are SO opposed to a completely average ship. like... it's an age-appropriate queer rivals to lovers/best friend's brother, and you're hating on that?
Why don't you go bother snily shippers if you mind the death eater/order member trope? Why don't you go bother james/severus shippers for taking away from jily? Why don't you go hate on Tom/anyone fic for being toxic or ooc? (I do not condone hate on any ship, I am pointing out the principle!!)
As someone who plays around with weird (generally problematic) ships and tropes, I've never got a mean comment, but Jegulus riles you up?
