"I Can't Do This. My Disability Prevents Me From Doing This"

"I can't do this. my disability prevents me from doing this"

another disabled person: well I have to do this! have you considered just doing it anyways?

"I'm not sure you know what can't means and I also don't think you realize that I, too, have to do those things. I just.. y'know, can't."

being unattractive or physically different/disabled DOES NOT equal being morally bad/evil. there is an atrocious amount of ableism that occurs when someone doesn’t look “normal.” and i am so fucking sick of it.

in media it is (almost) always the villains who are different/disabled. and media is a massive part of how people form their world views.

i want to mention arcane for example, because people seem to be confused about what good representation is. people praise the hell out of that show, and for good reason it has great things about it, but people told me it had good disabled representation. so i watched it. and while parts of the disabled representation is good.. almost all physically different/disabled characters are portrayed as bad/evil/villains at some point in their story (or all of it.) and then by the end of the show most of them are dead.

abled people i need you to understand that is not good representation. please look out for these tropes it happens ALL the time.

good representation includes different/disabled characters who are heroes and morally “good” too.

if you make all your villains physically different and none of them are heroes i hate you. i am so sick of this.

My chronic pain doctor suggested I exercise more

I asked him “how?”

He looked confused. Said I should try a bit every day

I said “not when, how?” I asked what exercises I should do

He suggested half a dozen options that had all been explicitly banned by other doctors. I’m not allowed to run. I’m not allowed to bike. I’m not allowed to use my rowing machine or my punching bag.

I walk my dog whenever I have the energy and when it doesn’t hurt too much

What else can I do?

He told me I should exercise more

And then he changed the subject.

discovering the trend of “dopamine” dressing/decorating was so hilarious to me…

whats the point of doing life any other way??? are people really wearing clothes that dont make them happy?? and decorating their house in a way that doesnt brighten their day?? 😭😭

i was so confused like have i completely misunderstood society. no wonder people call me eccentric and weird.

i just assumed the things that make me happy were different to what makes others happy, not that they just.. were completely not having that as their goal in the first place.

pls surround yourself with things that make life sparkle guys i beg of u its the best way to live

anyone who thinks health issues end with walking out of the hospital doors, massive reality check for ya. there is no clocking out of chronic illness or disability.

surgery does not cure everything, medication does not cure everything. hospital cannot cure everything.

the amount of people in my life who believe that when i go to hospital, i will be discharged cured or symptom free is astonishing to me.

most of these people have known me long enough to have seen me through multiple hospital admissions and every time they come back to this way of thinking even though its never happened.

THIS

If you're a disabled young person, you've most likely been hit with the "pfft you think you're in pain now? Just wait til you're my age" bullshit from older people at least once. Everyone talks about how invalidating it is

But I haven't seen anybody mention how it's terrifying, too. Yes, I know health deteriorates with age. I know that old age is a disability unto itself. I know that the healthiest person alive will start getting aches and pains past the age of 40 and may even need mobility aids

I know all this stuff. And it always makes me think "yeah, if I can't walk without joint pain even while using mobility aids AT AGE 21, how painful will life be for me at the age where it gets painful for everyone?"

And it's hard not to feel like I'm doomed, y'know? Where most people get a period of health that they wish they appreciated more when they start to lose it, my starting point was a body that doesn't work properly and it's only gonna get worse from there. It's worse every fucking year.

TLDR stop telling disabled young people that their pain will only get worse to the point of being unimaginable as they age, WE FUCKING KNOW

physically disabled people who are also fat deserve mobility aids just as much as physically disabled people who are skinny.

we also deserve to have mobility aids that fit us, we shouldn’t have to settle for ones that don’t meet our needs. whether it’s having a high enough weight limit or being wide enough or being sturdy enough, we deserve that.

it doesn’t even matter whether a person is fat because of their disability/ies or if they’re disabled because they’re fat. that person still deserve good mobility aids that meet their needs.

[this is a post about fatness and physical disability, derail and i will steal your mail for three months and two days]

and what i really want is more deformed characters who are GOOD instead of this awful pattern of the deformed characters being evil.

anyways i am currently working on multiple such characters.

Really wish I saw more art of deformed characters. More diversity in bodies. I feel like people are scared to draw us because they’re worried they’ll do it wrong or something. But 1. wrong and trying is better than nothing, and 2. you can always ask somebody for input. There are always people who are willing to answer your questions, you just have to find them. My asks are always open and I know a to of other people who are like that, too.
