I had an idea for a Hanahaki Frans drawing, but it's been growing in my head as I worked on it. So, being my nerodivergent self and unable to let go of an idea, I'm making it an au now!

The basic idea is that Frisk ran a unfinished pacifist route for their final run, deciding they would rather live in the underground with their friends than either die or take Asgore's soul to leave.

It's called HanahakiTale (HanaTale for short)

Frisk was 15 when they fell down and the au takes place 5 years after this.

During these years, Frisk lived with the skeleton brothers in Snowdin. It seemed to be the safest place for them.

Frisk had ran many routes during their time underground, and not all of them were pacifist.

Frisk can remember all the past runs...but so can Sans.

After the last No Mercy run, Sans was understandable untrusting of Frisk. The first Pacifist route, after several unfinished No Mercy, Sans killed Frisk on sight. Who could blame him, though?

The fourth time Frisk exited the ruins, he let them approach. A short check of their LV showed that they hadn't hurt anyone. Still, Sans wasn't as friendly as he had been in the past.

And Frisk was notably more wary of Sans, not letting themselves be alone with him.

One day, Frisk realized some complex feelings they harbored towards the shorter skeleton. However, they knew soon after this realization that Sans could never have the same feelings towards them.

As the years passed, the anxiety and pessimism between Frisk and Sans started to fade, but nightmares were still a frequent occurrence for them both. Frisk occasionally had days when they couldn't be near Sans..and sometimes Sans hand trembled when Frisk would make dinner with Papyrus, a knife in their hand.

They felt a dull ache in their chest.

As days passed, the ache grew and they gained a slight cough...and then a petal came up with the coughing

When Sans felt the dull pain turn sharper, he already knew what was happening. The coughing only confirmed it..and looking through his ribcage , he saw a bright red tulip sprouting from his soul.

Alternatively, Sans had also gained feelings for the human over time. When he realized this, his soul sank. How could Frisk ever feel anything but deep-seated fear towards him?

The loss of love could be fatal to a monster. It was far worse than falling down. It was long and painful as flowers created by magic would consume the monster from the inside out. The flowers differed from case to case, but the end result was all the same.

By the end, all you would be was a dusty flower bed.
