I've been practicing bone-reading for about five years now, and through that I've picked up on a few things that I don't regularly see people talking about, so I decided to put together a list that I would have personally found helpful at the beginning of my divination practice. Please be advised that I come at bone-reading from a very animistic perspective, so if that's not a viewpoint that you believe in, most of these tips probably won't be helpful to you.
The method of bone-reading I use is to ask a specific question and toss the bones to read. This is a common method, but there are also alternate practices, such as tossing bones in the fire and reading them based on the burns and heat cracking.
Choose your bones carefully. Pick ones that want to be worked with, and ones that you're personally able to resonate with. Bones that don't want to be read can't be used effectively from my experience.
Feed your bones. This is the practice of giving your bones offerings to maintain their willingness to work with you and to build your relationship with them. I find divinatory herbs and blood to be a great offering, though blood should not be used without experience and caution. Food the animal would have eaten while alive can also be effective (for example, if your set is made primarily of fox bones, a small offering of meat might be appreciated).
Listen to your gut. Bone-reading is an incredibly instinctual and personalized form of divination. Don't try too hard to logically assign meanings to your bones - from my experience, they will usually let you know. If you can tell a bone would like to be used for a reading but can't tell what the bone might mean, add it to your set. It will let you know once you start doing readings with it.
Use a mat. This is partially a mundane recommendation; if you throw your bones straight onto the floor, they're eventually going to break. This also makes it easier to tell when a bone breaking is significant to the reading. A mat can also serve as a center of the reading; the bones in the middle may be more significant, whereas the bones that fall off the mat may be irrelevant to the reading. This isn't a format one has to use, but it can be helpful, especially to beginners.
Just start bone-reading. Obviously you should go into it having done research, and with a cautious and respectful attitude. However, at a certain point, doing research and preparation isn't helpful. Because bone-reading is so personalized and instinctual, there is so much you can only learn once you start. During your first few readings, pay close attention to each bone, where they fall next to each other, and what they may be telling you about their meaning.
Ingredients:
½ cup Riesling wine (German white wine) 1 egg 2/3 cup flour 1 cup honey 2 tbs sugar 1/8 tsp cinnamon 1/8 tsp nutmeg Dash of salt
Beat the egg together with the wine. In another mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cinnamon, sugar and salt. Add the flour mixture to the egg mixture. Stir until blended through. Let sit for 30 minutes. In another small bowl, mix the honey and nutmeg. In a skillet, heat up about a ½ inch of oil. Drop a tablespoon of batter into the oil and fry until golden brown. Drain off the oil, and dip into the honey mixture.Â

Feel free to check out my master post for more information!
You will need: a room and yourself.
Directions:
Go sit in a corner
Think about what youâve done.Â
Many people will do tarot readings on you, whether you know about them or not. So lets throw off some salty hoes and confuse the ever loving fuck out of them! This spell is similar to a decoy jar, and it is used to create confusion and misdirection in any sort of divination that is being done about you without your consent.Â
What you will need:Â
Jar or container of choice
Yarrow - Banishing (properties : banishing, death, courage, psychic powers)
cloves: banishes hostility/negativity, used for protection.
black peppercorn: banishing negativity, protection from evil.Â
Paper with sigils correlating to your intention
Some sort of reflective object to bounce the reading off of you
Teeth for defenseÂ
Any sort of baneful ingredients you enjoy to give them a little punishment for trying to divine about youÂ
Black salt(regular works fine) to protect you from prying eyes.Â
Process
Cleanse your jar with your preferred methodÂ
Fill it with the physical ingredientsÂ
Write on a piece of paper, or say this out loud whichever you prefer
âCuriosity will kill the cat and no amount of satisfaction can bring it back. Anyone who tries to divine me in hopes of an upper hand will get back only nonsense and a prick back. Your tarot will turn against you, your bones will break, your runes will never fall into place. Your scrying and divination will only show your own ugliness. May this spell confuse and blind those who wish to spy on me
Write your sigils on the back of this paper, activate it by dabbing oil onto it, i used yarrow oilÂ
Seal your jar with black wax and string
So, uh, everyone makes mistakes, and sometimes those mistake are putting the audiobook copy of an item on hold instead of the book itself. ⨠Whoops
Anyway, yeah. I really like the content of these kinds of books. Itâs not intended to be a âbabyâs first spellbookâ. Itâs a comprehensive look at taking care of yourself that is based witchcraft as the central medium. There are a lot of great self-regulating and self-reflecting exercises in here that really break down the specifics of a task so itâs not just âhave you tried journaling? đđźââď¸â , which is rarely helpful on its own.
And itâs got recipes.
On one hand, I like a lot of the content. It breaks down a lot of hands-on-craft ideas, like cooking, journaling, preparing bath products, so that theyâre easily accessible, and Iâm honestly very happy the author does so. The modern world really relies so heavily on thought-heavy and digital processes that hands-on work is undervalued, even when itâs an essential part of stimulating the human brain. On the other hand, I really dislike the amount of essential oils pushed around in the bath product recipes. If youâve missed out on every post about essential oilsâŚtheyâre not safe to pick up at the store and just dabble with. Safe dosages are tricky to calculate and deliberate disinformation about the safety of their use is rife across the internet. It was disappointing to see essential oils so prevalent here.
Still, I donât have any concrete memory of seeing any specific cultural appropriation (but I might have misheard. Audiobooks are hard đ ) and over all I found it extremely effective in delivering an effective dissection on what self care is, why it helps you, and how to try it out in different aspects of your routine. I give it a solid nine out of ten; I really, really recommend it!
Blessings! đ
As the title states, this is what Iâve learned. It is all based on my experiences, opinions, and personal knowledge. Most of it comes from my grimoire. What Is A Curse? A curse is a type of spell a person can cast on you. It can cause misfortune, health issues, financial issues, relationship issues, even in some cases death. What About Hexes & Jinxes? I also want to define hexes & jinxes before we get too into this. ⢠Jinxes ⢠Temporary, can last hours, are just meant to cause a bit of bad lack but nothing too serious, are for a bit of fun or to teach someone a simple lesson. ⢠Hexes ⢠Also temporary, but have greater effects, theyâre a lot more curse like in that they can teach more vital lessons and can cause things like sickness. ⢠Curses ⢠Permanent, can cause death, theyâre for the worst, nastiest people, and the most intense situations. In other words, theyâre all negative spells. Just 3 different levels of them. The main difference is curses are permanent, the others are not, and a jinx certainly wouldnât cause death or permanently effect someones well-being. Are They Okay? I used to wonder this myself and have seen TONS of people ask it. Itâs a matter of morality. I canât tell you what to believe or think. Itâs about you and your path. How Do I Know If Iâm Cursed? There are symptoms, Iâll go over all the ones Iâm aware of. ⢠Bad Luck/Misfortune ⢠Lack of motivation ⢠Nightmares ⢠Bad Omens ⢠Personal items going missing ⢠Plants dying ⢠Fatigue ⢠Health issues/sickness ⢠Financial issues All and any of these things can happen, they will come along suddenly and have no other explanation other than a curse. How To Test If Youâre Cursed Okay, youâve identified youâve got some of the symptoms, you canât find any other reason or suspect someone specific has cursed you. The next step is testing to be sure. Here are my personal favorite ways to test for curses. The Egg Test Break an egg, what you find inside will give you insight. ⢠Blood ⢠Youâre cursed ⢠⢠White clots/chunks ⢠There is no curse, but there is something clotting you or your life up ⢠⢠Broken yolk ⢠There is no curse, but you have inner turmoil and need to work on it ⢠Divination Test Ask whatever forms of divination you may have if youâre cursed. Deity Test I donât do deity work, but I also imagine itâd be an option to ask your deities if youâre cursed. What To Do Next? Alright, so youâve looked at the symptoms, theyâre unusual for you. You did the tests, youâve come to conclusion youâre cursed. Now what? ⢠Cleansing Cleansing is one of the foundations of witchcraft, use your favorite forms of cleansing to cleanse your space. This is a default for many witchy issues or situations anyways. But itâs a good reminder. ⢠Crystals Use crystals as sources of positivity, luck, healing. To combat the symptoms of the curse. Also any crystals you can keep near you for protection will help too. ⢠Salt bath This a method of cleansing yourself, it may get the curse off of you. It may also help if you found something unusual in your egg (that is if you did the egg test). ⢠Warding This is another thing thatâs very common and simple, but effective, ward yourself and your space to make sure nothing else thatâs bad or unwanted gets in. ⢠ Deities You could ask your deities to help remove the curse or ask them what you should do about it. ⢠Other witches Ask other more experienced witches what their experiences with curses are and they they recommend, get some feedback. Posts like this are nice but so is talking to someone and hearing their experiences! Hereâs some types of spells you could use to help you! Spells ⢠Return to sender spell ⢠Protection spell ⢠Remove curse spell (of course) Edited 6/24/2019 Iâm sure Iâll add more to this in the future. I hope someone learned something! Enjoy! Have a lovely day (right after I just went on about curses and death for quite a while) đ
