Night-Life š
Despite the first impression, Berenice seems to be the most pragmatic and rational of the misfits. Although she looks frolicsome, fearless, mischievous even, she also dislikes challenges, prefers not to get into big troubles and is used to choosing the line of least resistance. She seems to me like a hedonist who doesn't mind having some fun, but doesn't want to sacrifice her comfort and take unnecessary risks.
In the haunted mansion she suggested they all sit in the bushes instead of taking a losing fight.
When Montresor and Will attack, she tries to escape and leave Lenore alone, and the only one who prevents her from doing so is Eulalie. I don't really blame Berenice for this situation, because she only met Lenore yesterday, but damn it, Bee actually was ready to throw her to Monty (but not ready to leave Eulalie. I know what you are)
In the hideout she is the only one who vehemently opposes Lenore's plan to escape, and to be honest, her words make some sense.
She also changes her mind very quickly in the forbidden wing scene. Although Berenice previously seemed excited about the idea of breaking some rules, she agrees with Morella that this place is pretty creepy and is ready to back down. And again it is Eulalie who made her to stay.
Berenice seems to quickly light up with any idea and just as quickly fades away at the slightest difficulty. Although she doesn't like unnecessary obstacles, she also lacks the determination to stand by her opinion to the end: in all the scenes I've mentioned, she eventually gives up. She grumbles, but follows Eulalie`s dowsing rods; she emphasizes that she doesn't like the idea of escape, and still swears a blood oath. It seems that her habit of choosing the easiest path also makes her poorly predisposed to longāterm conflict: in the end, agreeing with the majority is also the line of least resistance.
I think this frame and this line sums up Berenice's approach to life quite well.
She is less competitive than Lenore, less sacrificial than Morella, less snide than Duke, but more rational than Eulalie and more active than Pluto. To be honest, I'm glad that she ended up in the same group as Lenore and Morella in the last episodes, because Berenice will definitely be able to stop them from sacrificing their lives for each other in the most noble but stupid way.

āMontresor never would have stayed with Will, itās so out of character!ā
Agreed! Montresor absolutely would not have stayed with Will, he wouldāve thanked him for his service and then gotten tf out of there.
Thatās why he was purposefully given a debilitating injury.
Monty has been shown in the past to have some amount of fucked up ācareā for Will, thatās undeniable. Itās also undeniable that heās a selfish bastard who would have probably abandoned Will the second he could.
WHICH IS WHY THE AUTHOR MADE IT SO HE CANāT.
Montyās not an idiot- despite everything heās just not. Heād very clearly putting on a brave face about the extent his injury is disabling him, we see that as the audience. He also knows itās serious, itās why he humiliated himself by begging Annabel for help, he would have bled out and died on those steps because he canāt move.
Monty not leaving Will isnāt out of character because there is quite literally no logical reason for him to leave.
Letās say he leaves Will behind. That gives him maybe a few seconds, even a minute letās say, to escape from the Wild Hunt. This mythical beast they barely know shit about whoās essentially immune to the only defense these people have and who is laser-focused.
Montresor canāt stand up unassisted.
He can barely stand up at all.
Heās dead either way, he may as well stay with Will.
(Also, Monty is a cruel and careless piece of shit, but his words contradict his actions because his words arenāt reliable. Heās a liar and like Annabel says, heās severely insecure. Heās very intentionally projecting the āI donāt care about anyoneā mask; we see that especially in the new episode where he purposefully puts on an air to save that dog.)
cruel irony
