You know, the thing that really gets me about the locked tomb books... It's that in any other series, Gideon sacrificing her life for the greater good and to protect Harrow with the bonus that they'll always be together in a way--in any other series, that's pretty much the good end. That's where the author would have been like "and Harrow would never forget this. She would remember Gideon's sacrifice for the rest of her endless existence. She would carry Gideon's will and power in honor of her."

Even by Homestuck logic, a big part of the root of TLT writing, Gideon's death was heroic and therefore irreversible by pretty much every method.

But that isn't what happens. Everything after the first book is pretty much "No. You weren't allowed to die, that decision was made for you by people meddling in our lives. And besides, I told you not to do it and you did it anyway, so now I need to undo it. You die when I say you can die and not a moment sooner."

And it's very refreshing.
