This might have been obvious, and they might say it explicitly later (it's been a while since my first watch) BUT (spoilers for fhfy) to open a hellmouth strong enough to cause the apocalypse, zayn needed someone directly connected to sol and Kristen is the chosen of helio. He put the paper in her book to make her the hellmouth, but then Ragh did as bullies do and threw the book into the corn, causing the hellmouth to open there instead of in kristen. Ragh saved the fuckin world.
