so remember when we were all wondering what's with the r1999 character profile page?

the "an arcanist's work displayed in the 19xx"

and with their length x width dimensions

and how our chosen character in our home page retreats to being a painting in the background

anyways...in one of the new game infos in the loading pages (which has a very short window of reading time so it was hard to catch), it was said that:

there was a strange phenomenon of people turning into paintings that they can't find the cause of

based on what we have so far i am not liking what bluepoch could be implying in that loading page 🥹

For those who don't know or haven't seen it yet, they're talking about the following loading screen (ty to Tale's lore server for providing these!)

I just assume that these details are part of the whole artistic theme within the game, like how each Chapter is named after a real book, all the references to artistic movements and so on and so forth. As well as Vertin's role as the Timekeeper─she's meant to record and keep evidence from different eras, which sounds to me like a job for an art collector, conservator or restorator! So it makes sense to me that the people she saves are seen as art pieces.

Besides, the suitcase/Wilderness is a very vague, mysterious place. It's a literal pocket dimension that just seems to do its own thing and follow its own rules. I'm willing to casually accept that, sometimes, people turn into paintings for no apparent reason because it's a LITERAL pocket dimension that pulls people from time and space.

If I think reaaally hard ... Maybe you're implying that the people within the suitcase are doomed to become paintings eventually, because they're in the wrong era?

But that makes no sense, because there's hundreds of other survivors within the Foundation, Manus Vindictae and Apeiron so far who survive just fine─and Chapter 05 revealed why some places are immune to the "Storm."

Any potential arguments to support this theory don't hold up from my perspective, either. For example, the idea that the arcanists Vertin pulls from the spinning wheel in the middle of the lake are different from people who survive the "Storm" through different means (siding with either the Foundation or Manus, or by being in Apeiron, these are the only examples we have so far), and therefore they don't count, so they could be affected in different ways. This doesn't hold up, because Vertin pulled Sonetto, someone from the same era as her, into the suitcase through the spinning wheel. Whereas Regulus, who comes from an entirely different era, was just pushed inside. And yet, both of these characters turn into paintings anyway when you select them on the main screen.

So I don't think I understand the "implication" you're talking about and why you wouldn't like it? But please, feel free to elaborate on a different ask/reblog/reply, etc etc! I'd love to know!

random predictions for s2 that i have floating around in my head that have pretty much no basis other than huh:

1. routley is genuinely pious, or religious at the very least. don't know why i think this other than that we haven't seen a genuinely religious (christian) character yet, and considering this is the very end of cromwellian england...

2. skeffington is the worst of the four. hands down. total sadist. basing this one off the fact that skeffington has also been spelled skevington, as in the torture device skevington's gyres invented during the reign of henry viii.

like... fowler's already awful but imagine these two. one religious nut who believes that whatever horror he unleashes is justified by either saving his victim or bringing them to their appropriate punishment, and one just... absolute psycho. worse than fowler, which seems pretty impossible but i'm afraid of what they'll show us 😬 mizu is gonna have a fucking TIME

Tighnari with a Forestry and Sustainability major Reader. He is always following you around with questions, trying to write down everything you say. He is absolutely horrified when you tell him about deforestation and logging. He’s never seen it happen, but just hearing about the Amazon Rainforest made him angry enough to go on a twenty-minute rant that you needed to calm him down from. Tighnari loves taking you out on his ranger patrols. You truly appreciate and are blown away by the forests of Sumeru and to him, there’s nothing better than your wide-eyed expression of amazement as you find a new plant or stand beneath a giant tree. He would climb any tree, no matter how tall, or face any dangerous beasts just to bring something back that would make your face brighten and break out in a huge smile.

Diluc with a Fermentation Science major Reader. When you first tell him what you were studying at university, he was absolutely floored. He found it baffling and moronic to dedicate four years and a whole course of study, but when you explained its more to ensure that food and drink were fermented safely, he slowly warms up to the idea. You like accompanying him on his business duties as he walks around Dawn Winery to make sure operations are going smoothly. Although he doesn’t partake in alcohol himself, he listens when you suggest different ways of brewing wine and ale or to invest in different flavors. With your advice, his business booms even more than before and Diluc has more money to (not so) secretly spoil you with. (He also has to keep you away from Kaeya who constantly begs to try your latest idea/sample).

Zhongli with a History major Reader. He loves listening to your stories almost as much as you love listening to his. Although, sometimes Zhongli can't help but be slightly horrified at how much bloodshed your world’s history contains. He’s no stranger to wars, but two world wars and a war almost every decade make him shudder. But he is also fascinated by the human progress in your world and the thousands and thousands of cultures. He has so many questions, a lot of them go beyond your area of expertise, but that’s alright. And he has no qualms about answering yours, even if he has to think about the answer for a while. The two of you are content sitting for hours, drinking tea, and exchanging facts.

Alhaitham with a Public History major Reader. Your wide knowledge of history interested him already, but when he found out you wanted to work in archives after university, the man will not leave you alone. He asks you how archives work in your world and is amazed about the different archives your world has (museums, universities, government). Sometimes he takes you to work to show you how the Akademiya handles archives and puts you to work by accident. He feels guilty when he looks over and sees you hunched over large tomes, but his heart swells with joy knowing that you’re interested in the same things as him.

Albedo with a Biology or Chemistry major Reader. Alchemy is far different from modern science, but it shares similar roots. He pries you for every last drop of knowledge you have and you have to stop him so you can take a break. You do enjoy helping him with his research. You help him break down the organic compositions of items and prioritize lab safety over everything. Far too many times you’ve hurriedly had to move stacks of books away from an open flame or stop Albedo from nearly inhaling a chemical. Although ingesting lethal chemicals won’t kill him, Albedo appreciates you caring for his well-being and may or may not keep doing it just so you can chastise him and make sure he doesn’t have any injuries.

Kaveh with a Civil Engineering major Reader. Kaveh instantly relates to your struggle. He understands the all-nighters trying to figure out math problems and draw up blueprints. (Although he is jealous over energy drinks in your world, he wishes he had them when he was a student). Kaveh likes listening to what you did in your classes and all the technology you used, but if you try to offer him advice on his latest architectural plans, he won’t listen. He admires and respects you, but his buildings are his creations and his alone. The next grand building he plans on constructing though, he plans on dedicating it to you.

Venti with a Music Education major Reader. He joins you when you help out at the Church. Although the public typically isn’t allowed to sit in during choir practice, an exception is made for him. He loves watching you help direct warm-ups and conduct songs. And nothing fills his heart with more delight than watching you help the children of Mondstat sing nursery rhymes or hum lullabies to them late at night. He insists on duets, complete with instruments. The two of you harmonizing together draw in the largest crowds in Mondstat, no matter how many times the two of you have performed before.

Kazuha with a Creative writing major Reader makes more sense (but I’ve had this idea for a while and can’t properly write it out ) but Kazuha with a Visual Arts major Reader. You’re a very talented artist considering you got accepted into art school, but you’re also very dedicated and innovative. You’ve always wanted to make your own paint and the land of Teyvat was all too willing to offer you fresh and natural materials to make your own, specific shades. The maple leaves of Inazuma were the exact shade you needed to paint a certain samurai. When you showed your portrait to Kazuha, he was absolutely blown away and honored by your painting. He keeps it close to him as a reminder of your endearment for him. Kazuha now travels through the lands with a new purpose in mind, to find you the best materials for you to paint with.

MEDICINE POCKET is very clear about their boundaries; they do not take crossing them lightly. while you are their lover and significant other, they still make a line that you should not cross.

. though, a contrary belief is that medicine pocket would reciprocate your manner. i believe that either way, medicine pocket would find your behavior endearing.

. medicine pocket would often let you work alongside them - that is, if you don't mind. they would let you take notes for them, telling you to 'do as i say,' or 'write down what i say'.

;; OVERALL medicine pocket would be ( somewhat ) compatible with a clingy partner. just as long as you don't bother them as they're working, they would enjoy being in your presence and having you cling onto them.

X is rather indifferent to this. unlike medicine pocket, he does not necessarily have a sense of boundaries; he does not mind whether you cling onto him or not, he acts just the same.

. x is used to charming people with his personality and looks, so he did not seem to take notice of it at the start of your relationship. he found it amusing, and would oftentimes return your gestures.

. there is a chance of x taking advantage of this scenario to make you test his inventions for him ( of course, he makes sure they're safe to try first ) but otherwise, nothing serious.

;; OVERALL i find x to be a sort of 50/50 in this case. he could be considered more compatible, but there are some contradictions in my head. he is pretty questionable, really ...

PAVIA doesn't want anyone digging into his business. he doesn't want you asking him questions about his work knowing you wont get any answers, he would be happier with someone understanding of his boundaries and line of work.

. i have a headcanon that his wolves get clingy whenever they're hungry - so pavia is quite used to clinginess already. in general, he wouldn't mind if you were touchy with him. you could just lay your hands on his chest, sit on his lap randomly, and he wouldn't care all that much.

. the only problem that pavia has with this is the countless questions you ask him. about his past, about his work - he dislikes having someone pry into his personal life. other than that, he really just doesn't care.

;; OVERALL i don't exactly believe he's all that compatible with a clingy s/o. yes, he likes your touches and affection, but he does not need you smothering him! he needs to do his work as a mercenary, and prefers keeping you out of it.

ZIMA would have to take time to warm up to your clinginess at first. he appears awkward and gruff at first, but eventually would be willing to engage in it.

. he was but a lonely poet before he met you, with nothing but wild animals to keep him company - he considers himself lucky to have you in his life. about your clinginess, he does not mind it much.

. physical affection isn't something he's used to, and it's something that you introduce to him. he has no trouble in showering you with words of affirmation and small gifts, but he's quite iffy with other love languages.

;; OVERALL zima enjoys bathing in the warmth of his lover, a deep contrast to his life in the cold. i believe that zima is one of, if not the most, compatible with a clingy s/o.

HORROPEDIA is completely inexperienced, but that doesn't stop him from reciprocating your affection.

. he'd get caught off guard each time you touch him - he just doesn't strike me as the guy that's really used to physical touch. sure, eventually he wouldn't start to mind it much, but at the start of the relationship he's a bit sheepish with it.

. when he starts to get used to it, he likes to return your affections. he'll often have you by his side, but there are still times where he needs some time alone. if you can respect that, the relationship will be long-lasting.

;; OVERALL compatible! he enjoys your presence, and you enjoy his too. horropedia does not have any objections to your clinginess, and likes being showered with your affection.

SIX does not know how to deal with your clinginess. is he supposed to entertain you? he was more used to blending in with the background, he is unfamiliar with your touches and affection.

. six is curious by nature, and he starts to wonder why? he could understand it from a medical standpoint, and it's not like he would really mind your clinginess - perhaps you have some emotional wound that you would like him to heal?

. unless it bothers you, six wouldn't be as affectionate. he's been so closed-off and distant from his friends, learning how to love and be affectionate towards somebody again must be hard for him.

;; OVERALL makes a decent couple. while six takes a lot of time and space to get used to it, he likes your affectionate gestures, despite not returning them as much.
