Everything is blurry and fuzzy around the edges.

Daniel blinks rapidly, trying to clear his vision, only to be met with a dizzying wave of nausea. Changing course, he turns his head, and instead focuses on the painting of a vase hanging on the wall across from his bed. It’s kind of ugly, if he’s being honest, and there aren’t even any flowers in the vase. It’s just a blue vase on a brown table.

No, ugly is too mean. But boring. Or, maybe, Daniel just doesn’t get it.

Which, he reflects, is entirely possible, given his current state.

His arm throbs, a piercing little sting in time with his heartbeat, acting as an embarrassing reminder of his overambitious zeal. But he’d been tired of the tarps coming loose with every little gust of wind, and the final pieces had been delivered that morning, and really, how hard could it be to install a couple of French doors?

Pretty damn hard, as it turns out.

And now he’ll have to order new doors, on top of everything else.

“You look like shit, man.”

Daniel rolls over slowly, having learned his lessons earlier, to find Johnny standing in the door, arms crossed and brows raised. The nurse had closed the blinds and turned down the lights in his hospital room during her last check-up, so the only source of light is coming from the hallway, casting Johnny in a warm, almost otherworldly glow.

It does wonders for his dumb, beautiful, golden hair.

“Why, thank you,” Johnny chuckles, low and teasing, which means Daniel must have said that last part out loud. He walks over to sit down on the edge of the bed, grinning cheekily. “All natural, too, baby.”

Haven’t seen anyone else do it, so here I am, KK1 Daniel is a chick rewrite.

Where Danielle LaRusso moves to California with her loving mother, and less than 48 hours of being there, she ends up on the bad side of a blond prick, fighting over the prettiest girl she’s ever seen in her life. Suffering the consequences until the kind repair man at her apartment takes her under his wing since Halloween night.

Johnny Lawrence didn’t expect the little boy in the red hoodie, clearly flirting with his chick to be well.. A chick. He beat himself up over it, and he means to apologize but then he kept on being too damn aggressive.

He was sure when she came to Cobra Kais dojo, with the old man, Kreese would’ve had their heads on a stake. But instead, Kreese reminded them that while karate was for picking up and protecting hot babes, they also had to be put in their place.

‘No, no,’ Johnny said quickly. ‘Don’t get up, I’m just-’

Daniel wasn’t listening. He reached one hand up to tap Johnny’s forehead with a light touch.

‘Aaw, Johnny…’

‘What - you - stop that, stop poking at me, would ya? What is it?’ Johnny said with an exasperated laugh as he tried to catch hold of LaRusso’s thin wrists.

‘Your hair,’ LaRusso slurred. ‘I miss your hair…’

The smile slipped from Johnny’s face. Suddenly he was very aware of LaRusso’s unfocused eyes on him, of the beating of his heart in his chest.

‘Sorry, you miss my hair?’ he managed to force out at last.

‘Beautiful,’ LaRusso said, smiling warmly as he brushed gentle fingers over Johnny’s forehead. His touch swept over where Johnny’s bangs used to fall, as if pushing them back off his face.

Johnny stared down at him, mouth wide open.

‘Loved your hair,’ LaRusso sighed. Then his eyelids finally fluttered and closed and Johnny was left to stare at him in dumb, disbelieving silence.
