some people are so chronically online they cannot separate fiction vs reality. this is not about anything specific however it is a lot of issues mixed together.

i know a lot of people hear the word “chronically online” and tune out but hear me out. a lot of teenagers and preteens nowadays and even some millennials have been so absorbed in this world of the internet where you constantly feel like you have to fight for things that you feel is right that you start to go tunnel vision and ignore genuine, actual issues.

i will see people actively throw whole ass tantrums over fictional. content. whether it is a show, a movie, a game, or fan content.

people will try to “cancel” or even threaten a voice actor who plays as a villain, and this has happened!!! so many times!!!!

if a show includes a homophobic/transphobic/racist character, that does not make the show morally bad. if those bad actions are condemned in the show, that is the creators saying “hey this thing is bad and is frowned upon”. that does not give you or anyone the right to go after the creators or actors of the show.

“but how could they be okay with playing that character?” because they can separate fiction. from reality. they know they themselves do not agree with those morals, they are simply playing a character.

if you focus so much time and energy into putting people down over something fictional you are going to ignore what actual issues are occurring in the world.

i have seen an artist on twitter have the police called on them because One Person didnt like something they drew and also hated them for drawing gore. drawing gore harms absolutely no one, i promise. and if you personally believe it does, guess what? you can instead choose to give a shit about actual people who non-consensually hurt real life people. wow, imagine that. contribute to real world politics and making changes, stop cancelling people on twitter bc they drew something you didnt like. stop hating on people who like a media you don’t like.

“if you like x you are a bad person” me liking a show about gay hell demons does not make me a bad person. me liking a show, movie, etc with villains who are terrible people does not make me a bad person. imagine that?

been thinking abt this lately but I think a lot of ppl need to hear that u can be anti censorship/harassment/purity culture and still not be comfortable with proshippers. I’ve gotten asks before being like “you can’t hate proshippers AND censorship. You being for free speech and uncensored media and kink expression shit means you’re proship” and… no?? There’s a difference between me not wanting books burned and children harassed off of the internet and me blocking a 30 year old white woman who draws noncon incest nsfw of children from a cartoon aimed at 10 year olds?? like, your childxadult abuse kink bluey fanfiction out there for any random kid to stumble across is not some revolutionary empowering “art disturbs the comfortable” shit, it’s just kinda gross (and probably against the law) and I think I have the right to want to block you. It probably hurts all the causes you say you’re so supportive of, too. Most of that “uncomfortable art” proshippers rally around does NOT glorify dark shit, which is the difference between what proshippers create and what dark fiction usually is. Also, don’t kill me for saying this but it’s not a good coping mechanism, either. You’re putting yourself and others in danger and rationalizing your abuse. I genuinely hope you get better and overcome your trauma but making proship content will only set you back. Ask anyone.

TLDR no matter how much you preach that “proship” only means anti harassment and the support of media that makes others uncomfortable, it won’t change the fact that nasty people use it as a label to gather around and do nasty things. I wish that wasn’t the case, but sadly it is.

Maybe characters aren't made to be a paragon of "purity" (I'm using that word on purpose. side eye.), maybe they aren't meant for you to fantasise about being besties with them in real fucking life, maybe they aren't meant to be your role model. Maybe they are there to explore themes about life and being human; the messy, fucked up, confusing and weird parts of it? Maybe they are there to express deep emotions and create catharsis, make us question things, or make us feel? Maybe it doesn't fucking matter if you'd hate them if "they were real" because of their fictional actions because, hey, they are not real and most people know the difference.

People are allowed to love characters that make the weird, confusing, fucked up parts of themselves feel seen, because it's fucking art and that's what art is for. It's not there to tell you how to behave. Not everything is a cartoon for toddlers.

1. 3 ships umm alright this one is going to be weird but let me explain. Zant is my favorite Zelda Villain so i made a pretty edgy AU were he comes back(in a big way). I have a whole design for him and all (might show it one day) but then Astor came out and i liked him but was upset of how his character died too. So these two meet in the after life (wont explain all the Zant lore after TP its bananas) and starts having a c crush on each other . Just a ship for fun because i like these two and because i feel like they deserve better . Tried to keep it short .
