ch. 5 | ch. 209
!spoilers ahead for those who haven't watched the second episode of aot season 4, part 2. as well as manga spoilers!
Ok ok, just wanted to say before hand that if there is any grammar mistakes or errors, I apologize beforehand because I'm in a rush to write this all down before I forget it.
I wanted to talk about one specific scene in this episode where it cuts to Falco, Gabi, and colt hiding out in an abandoned house. When Gabi slides down the wall we see this shot here.
Cages. Specifically bird cages.
This part of the anime comes out of chapter 118 of the manga here.
In these two scenes (cropped and editted), there are no cages at all. Not even one. So it was MAPPA's artistic choice to include the cages. And like, it was a good choice???
Literally holds so much symbolism here, literally and figuratively. Everything in AOT is a cage and I love how MAPPA solidifies that symbol by including bird cages when in the manga panel where there was none. They could have just animated this scene as it was drawn in the manga but they didn't. Love the creative route MAPPA took for this.
After this scene above, Gabi says something along the lines of, "We kept repeating the same mistakes over and over again." I loved this line being said by Gabi herself as the camera looms over the three of them, the cages sitting along with them. Such good cinematography
This is the only cage that is open. I looked at the other instances where these cages were shown and there were none (from what I saw) that showed an open door. I think MAPPA did an excellent job showing rather than telling the audience that message in that frame. Adding these cages amped the episode for me.
[Will probably edit this later to fix and add some stuff later.]

how we feeling yuuta stans?
spoilers ahead so you have been warned
i read 7:3 and my mind immediately thought of nanami kento and his ratio technique. gege....what are you planning? and i mean this in a suspicious way because this is his innate technique.
for anyone who doesn't know, an innate technique is engraved into you the moment you're born; it's not something you can create and it's definitely something you cannot copy. even in the jujutsu kaisen wiki page says, "techniques cannot be copied in most cases because they require innate talent and to possess." so it's like the technique chooses people (and not the other way around) who have the drive to use it at the fullest potential.
as someone who really loves nanami as a character, it doesn't sit right with me that this stranger may possess the ratio technique knowing nanami is dead. i'm not over his death, and probably never will, so seeing his technique possibly be shown again is like witnessing someone coming back from the dead. IT JUST DOESN'T SIT RIGHT WITH ME. gege...pls tell me i'm wrong like i usually am. i just have a very very bad ominous feeling about how this could go down.
and this isn't even about me feeling this way, it's more of me feeling this way because i'm thinking of itadori. this twenty-seven year old man is someone who itadori looked up to. can you imagine how devastated and confused he'd be if he ran into this man who possessed the very technique of his mentor? the very adult who told him being a child is not a sin? the very adult itadori blames himself for dying? this teenage boy had to watch him die in front of his own eyes, and the only thing keeping him all intact are nanami's last words to him, "you got it from here." it's suddenly like, his death was all for naught.
itadori is probably still grieving his death and still trying to wrap his head around everything that's happened. he is still beating himself up for what he did even if he's smiling and helping megumi. what i'm saying is itadori is in a vulnerable phase right now where, i feel like, one small thing can trigger something in him. and to have this slapped in his face? he's going to be confused and shocked. and the worst part is, knowing how caring and empathetic he is, he'll probably even be kind enough to tell this stranger to take care of his mentor's technique.
and to think that itadori may have to fight this person, i, look, i don’t even want to think about it. this is too cruel because if we think back to the culling game rules, you basically have to kill your opponent to survive and get points. so i’m sure itadori will have to kill this man, which is like killing nanami. and i kid you not, i’m 100% sure that when he kills this man he’s going to say, “sorry” just as he did when he killed choso’s brothers.
itadori yuuji deserves better than this. both him and nanami do.
they're the same picture, i won't be taking any arguments 😂
i already love choso as a character, but gege really solidified it by these panels. it gave choso more depth and showed more of his human side. and as the oldest of five siblings, i have mad respect for the things choso said:
+ choso being the badass person he is
