Finally a SenGen doujin! šā¤ļø
Cre: @funqi03 on twitter
So it started with a thought that āOh, actually 5 Generals really suits 5 elements! Space for Senku, water for Ryusui, wind/air for Ukyo, fire for Chrome and earth/wood for Gen!ā And I ended up thinking of them as dragons of elements.

This wonāt make your blog look ugly. How could you not reblog this? REBLOGGING THIS COULD SAVE A LIFE!!!
š©āā¤ļøāš©SenGen I kept getting obsessed over since last night.Ā I was thinking maybe theyāre in the all-girl school dorm, something like that š
I really love how @aemiron-main brought to light the idea that Will is a representation of LGBTQ people who are actively targeted because of their sexuality, and hated by their parentsāparents who clearly perceive them and hate them for it (or at least one of them does, like in the case of Lonnie).
Meanwhile, Mike is a representation of LGBTQ people who slip through the cracks, the invisible ones, the ones their parents canāt see even though they desperately want to be seen and understood by them.
And I think itās such a brilliant idea to have written them this way, to portray these different realities within the LGBTQ communityābecause yes, the 80s setting fits, but itās not just about that. It breaks down stereotypes by showing us the overlooked representations, the so-called invisible community, the one Mike representsāso invisible that even the general audience of Stranger Things (aside from film students who know how to read cinematic language, and LGBTQ people who understand because weāre way less affected by the lens of heteronormativity) can miss it.
The fact that Mike and Will are both gay but in completely different situations is so fascinating. Whether itās Lonnie or the bullies, or the people in town filled with judgment and prejudice, or even the ones who mean wellālike his mom, his brother, and his friendsāeveryone sees Will.
Lonnie and the bullies take his sensitivity as an insult and attack him for it. Joyce and Jonathan cherish it and accept him for who he is. But either way, heās seen.
And thatās the double-edged sword: being visible means heās an easy target for hatred and violence. Thatās why no oneānot even Hopper or Ted Wheelerāwas surprised at the idea that Will might be a victim of a hate crime.
But on the other hand, the people who love him and accept him can see him. They notice immediately when somethingās wrong. They know when heās not okay. They realize right away when he goes missing.
Who ever noticed that Mike was suffering? How long would it have taken for the Wheeler parents to realize Mike hadnāt come home if El hadnāt saved him from falling off that cliff?
Like the post said so perfectlyāpeople donāt recognize Mikeās difference.
Sure, heās spared from the bullyingākind of. He still gets bullied for his frog face, for being a nerd. But before Will disappeared, he didnāt seem to be targeted by the homophobic slurs that were directed at Will.
Itās not that they hate him. Itās that they donāt see him.
And that would explain his obsession with superheroes and people with powers, but also his desire to be normal. Deep down, Mike wants to be different. He wants to be seen. He wants to be himselfābut he also knows how dangerous that is. Heās seen what happened to Will. And to El.
And one really important thing that aemiron-main said (which I think would explain the cliff scene so well, and which I really hope Season 5 will explore):
Will represents gay men who die from hate crimes. Mike represents gay men who die by suicide.
Will represents gay men who are too visible (through no fault of their own), whose families and the people around them sensed their queerness from a very young age. Mike represents gay men who are invisibleānot hated, but never supported either.
Will represents gay men who are tormented, or taken away by force. Mike represents gay men who run away from homeāor disappear by taking their own lives.
Will is a gay boy who gets picked on and called āqueerā because of how he dresses. Mike is a gay boy whose clothes go unnoticed.
Will is good at hiding because heās visible. He has to hide because people seem to see right through him.
Mike isnāt good at hiding. Heās not good at pretending to be ānormalā because he never had to. Heās invisible. No one ever saw him before.
He never had to hide the way Will did.
Will had to learn how to hide and how to act ānormal.ā Thatās exactly why he hates when people treat him differently, like heās a āfreak.ā Will doesnāt want to be treated differentlyābecause heās always been treated differently.
Because heās too visible. So he had to learn how to act ānormal.ā
Meanwhile, Mike wants to be treated differentlyābecause heās been invisible his entire life.
He never had to learn how to hide, or how to behave ānormally,ā not really. Even though now he tries, he doesnāt know how, because he never had to before.
Where Lonnie noticed every trace of queerness in Will, Ted just⦠ignored everything. Too busy being passive and watching TV.
Will was so visible that he couldnāt even breathe without Lonnie noticing and forcing him to play baseball, because āthatās what boys do.ā Mike is so invisible he couldāve screamed āI have a girl with magical powers in my basement whoās wanted by the governmentā and Ted wouldnāt have noticed a thing.
Mike and Will are two sides of the same coin.
And now that I think about it⦠poor Mike is just lost. He doesnāt know where he fits.
Because heās an invisible gay kid, he doesnāt feel normalāso he thinks he has to protect himself by hiding his difference and pretending to be normal. He performs heteronormativity for the whole world to see (aka the cis-het ānormalsā).
But at the same time, heās not seen or accepted by the ādifferentā ones eitherābecause they donāt perceive his difference.
(Like when El says āno you donātā after Mike tells her he knows what itās like to be bulliedābecause she meant being different, and she didnāt see that in him.)
Mike doesnāt feel at home with the ānormalā people, because deep down he knows heās different. But he doesnāt feel different enough to be embraced by those who are different.
So heās stuck. Heās floating in between. He doesnāt know where his place is.
Which also explains why itās so hard for him to develop a sense of self-worth outside of being needed. Outside of being useful.
He suppresses and denies his own trauma because he thinks it doesnāt ācount.ā Because he didnāt go through what Will went through. Or what El went through. So he tells himself itās nothing.
His curse is invisibility.
Even we, the audience, donāt get access to his point of view. Heās ignored, overlooked, minimizedāand especially misunderstood.
And all of this gives him that aching feeling of belonging nowhere. Not normal enough, not different enough. Not this, not that.
Mike Wheeler is Vecnaās playground, honestly. If he isnāt one of his targets in Season 5, then what was the point of writing such a painfully complex character?
Here is the post who inspired me this post.
I just saw a guy declaring that Sasuke was abusive towards Sakura and that he doesn't deserve her... and now I want to implode because. What the hell.
First of all, Sasuke never wanted Sakura and that's something he made VERY clear to her.
The fact that she continued to pursue him shows the lack of respect she has for herself. Because she's not even trying to understand him as a person, she just loves (the idea of) him and wants to be with him, and after Sasuke makes it clear multiple times that that's not going to happen Sakura just starts to look stupid.
The fact that people call their relationship abusive has to be some kind of stupid joke. You're telling me that Sasuke trying to kill her after she tried to stab him in the back is abusive? That him not reciprocating her feelings and not being patient or kind after the tenth time is abusive? That him not treating her like his friend when they're enemies at war is abusive?
And I mean the relationship does seem abusive but from another perspective.
Who ignores the other's feelings and tries to make it about her all the time? Who ignores the other's decisions and goes on with her own actions? Who crosses the boundaries set by the other person multiple times? Who ignores the fact that the other is a independent person with a history and only tries to have him under her possession and tries to kill him when that option is no longer plausible? Mhhh.
Sasuke: I don't like you. I don't want you. What I want is for you to get away from me.
Sakura: I'm gonna try to chase you and declare my feelings over and over again hoping that my tears will convince you to stay with me.
Sasuke: Are you at least going to try to understand me as a person and my motives?
Sakura: Why would I do that? I just want to have you
Sasuke: ... Well that's not going to happen, and you're starting to irritate me.
Sakura: *tries to kill him*
Sasuke: *tries to kill her back*
Sakura: How is it possible that you care more about Naruto than me?!
Naruto: *Is worried that Sasuke is going to put himself in danger and ruin his life. Does his best to understand Sasuke's history and his motives. Cares immensely for him and tries to protect him at all costs. Understands that they both have a special connection and if the only way for them to be free from suffering is to die together then that's what they'll do.*
Sasuke: *The reason he wants to kill Naruto is because he is his greatest weakness. He loves him too much and he knows it. He knows that Naruto has the chance to stop him in his attempt to avenge his family. He does everything he can to protect Naruto from dying unless it is by his own hand and trying to kill him brings him great pain.*
Sakura: but I want youuu >:(
to anyone in the areas impacted by the wildfire smoke, my #1 biggest piece of advice as someone whos been dealing with wildfire smoke in the NW united states for years, is build yourself a Corsi-Rosenthal Cube
they perform as well as expensive HEPA air cleaners, and are comparatively VERY inexpensive. all you need is a box fan, 4 air filters, a piece of cardboard, and some duct tape!!!!
i think it took us maybe a half hour to put ours together, if that, and we replace the filters every 3 months. it's really made a HUGE difference, both when the air quality is bad, but also with our allergies

Fantasy sci-fi setting SenGen in space exploration mission featuring other Gochiso :3 Totally inspired by Agravity Boys, sort of? š
This kind of rival SenGen is not bad too, huh š
Thank you to @curiousbadger for kickstarting to memory of this au of @stan-the-cinnamon-roll-urisās au outlined in Part 1 of this post where Eddie ends up a cat with Patty and Stanley ends up an owl and in Richieās care and eventually coming back together. Enjoy some grumpy owl Stanley
Also you can best believe the losers are rallying around their comedian friend who has recently acquired an owl from somewhere presumably and is now allowing the bird to take creative liberties in his comedy writing
