Fareeha makes the mistake of falling asleep on the couch in the common room one time and the image now haunts her.

Hana had uploaded it to the internet with a joke caption to a lot of LOLs and fire emojis. In a matter of hours, faster than Fareeha has ever seen an army of strangers become a community, information about her military record, previous relationships, favorite foods, and height and weight had been blasted from one end of the net to the other.

All of that had been out there, in one form or another, long before this fiasco, so it’s not very bothersome, in general. What is bothersome is that Fareeha has never particularly had to deal with the implications of a massive subset of people who find her attractive and are adamant about proclaiming so as loudly as the web will allow them to.

She’s not even entirely sure why it had made such an impression. She’d been half sliding off the couch, wearing an old shirt of Angela’s (moth eaten graphics of some band from the early 2000s) and shorts. To be frank, she’d been a bit of a mess. Probably, that is what had promoted Hana to take the photo to begin with.

Still…

Fareeha shakes her head and laughs in surprise more than mirth when she walks into the medbay and sees that Angela has made it her screensaver and is currently staring at her monitor.

“Not you,” Fareeha begs, half joking. Angela turns to her and smiles guiltily.

“It’s a very good picture!” Angela says in her defense. “And anyway, as your girlfriend, I feel I have as much a right as the entire internet to any photo you look adorable in.”

“You may have as many pictures of me as you care to ask for,” says Fareeha, moving to kiss Angela. The other woman allows it. “But perhaps in the next one, I will not be drooling.” Fareeha pulls back enough to look Angela in the eye for one pseudo-serious moment, and then buries her head in the junction between Angela’s neck and shoulder and breaks out into embarrassed laughter.

A Laboratory for Star Formation

Discovered by: Sir John Herschel in 1834

Imaged here by the Hubble Space Telescope, NGC 3603 is a collection of thousands of large, hot stars, including some of the most massive stars known to us. Scientists categorize it as an “open cluster” because of its spread-out shape and low density of stars. Surrounding the bright star cluster are plumes of interstellar gas and dust, which comprise the nebula part of this cosmic object. New stars are formed from the gaseous material within these clouds! NGC 3603 holds stars at a variety of life stages, making it a laboratory for scientists to study star evolution and formation. Astronomers estimate that star formation in and around the cluster has been occurring for 10 to 20 million years.
