Because they aren’t the same faces. The operator is way older than the drifter (as in when they were added) so their faces are kinda outdated. So it’s better to use different faces and blend them together for the drifter to loom more like the operator.

Why did DE make the drifter weird looking, I gave my drifter the exact two faces as my operator/tenno and they still look weird, that's why I put the Judicial Oculus on them

I imagine if Grendel had a proto he would probably be associated with Scaldra (at least in the beginning, me thinks). I initially had quite gore and more militarised idea on how he would look like, but I opted to finish the toned down version of the sketches.
