The energy to make magic is stored in the soul, while the mechanism to realise magic is in the body. Whether or not you are a Makar is tied to your soul, but a soul without a body cannot make magic.

A soul is naturally adept at using its tethered body (even as infants), but for the body to use the soul, one needs training. In a fight-flight scenario, the soul will command the body to do the magic needed to protect oneself, but to do magic consciously takes practice. __________________________________________________________

Call is an earth mage. Not a metal mage like his parents, though. I imagine him pulling up pillars of rock from the ground and moving them around. He is not a chaos mage. He does successfully trick a lot of people, though.

Aaron, Con and Call wake up M in Gold Year. M is the one who teaches Con how to crack and move souls successfully. Con cracks Alex's soul, and pushes Aaron and himself in Alex's body. M also expected to make the jump, but Aaron and Con worked together to keep him in Call's body.

If M made the jump, he would have had huge control over the body. Without M, Aaron and Con have shared custody of the body, and Alex kinda just sits there.

Post-Gold Year, Call and M make 1.5 souls, while Alex, Aaron, and Con make 0.5 souls.

also call was in freaking jail for 7 whole months and after they break him out of it it isn't mentioned anymore????? i think being in a high security jail with war criminals is enough to be a little traumatized???? especially if you wake up there after witnessing your best friend and counterweight die right before your eyes????? but it could be just me idk

This made me think how it really is weird what we end up researching sometimes as writers. I definitely wouldn't want some random person looking through my search history without any given context. Just to gives a few examples of my own. I have necromancy in my world so I've ended up searching various things about bodies and skeletons that I'm sure would look rather suspicious to many people. Then on a completely different note I've also researched so many musical instruments during my time writing. I have a race in my world that partially uses music to communicate and I have learnt so much about organs (the instrument not the body organs) amongst many other instruments, including some more obscure ones.

Though I must say I think it is actually one of the many benefits of being a writer, if it wern't for me writing a book then I doubt I ever would even thought to research these things. Not only that, It has also reinforced some of my other interests that I've had previously such as mythology, it basically gives me an excuse to learn more.
