Now I know we might all be clowns, and that they're probably playing with us as usual, but honest to God I don't care. I am going to get my hopes up because I have been doing exactly that for the past lord knows how long. So better stay consistent, ok? Better remain true to the cause.
Now here are some post-canon fics that the writers should put into consideration if they know what's good for them.
1. These Ghosts Might Be Mine by @peaceheather. 68K, G.
The only thing I wrote in my bookmarks over this was that it's "the ending we deserved". Pretty sure that sums up exactly what I want to say. It's not just your ordinary time travel fix-it fic, but one that is done with such brilliance that it leaves you marvelling in awe at times. You must do yourself a favour and read for this author if you actually want to get a good understanding of the characters past canon.
2. Seo Gaestlufe/The Soul's Love series by flowerofnettles. 180K, T/E.
I know how hesitant some are when it comes to series, but listen. This one is simply not long enough from how GOOD it is! I rarely read wip fics, (it's now complete) but I genuinely loved living a journey with the author while it was being written, and I felt the amount of love and passion the author spent on it. What a creation, honestly. It's one of the very best out there.
3. I will turn your fear into a handful of dust by @regulusrules. 1K, G.
I am biased, ok? I want my own happy ending for them. I want to see them grow old and weary together. I want them alive. And if what it takes is a 1k drabble of them lying together by the sea, then I'll take it. I'll take it every single time you guys.
4. Albion's last bulwark by Saturne. 92K, E.
You know when there's a halo around a fic that you intensely remember a scene from but never the whole? And the scene alone is more than enough to remind you how good of a fic it is? Yeah. Yeah it's definitely the case here. I vividly feel its effect still. Absolutely planning on rereading soon because of how brilliant it was.
5. And like the cycle of the year, we begin again by @katherynefromphilly. 207K, M.
And lastly, the fandom requirement. The one that we will throw fists for if we don't see a scene or two from. As much as I am always more into canon deviations than accepting the idea of immortality and Arthur rising after millennia, this fic was definitely a pro in trying to make me less in denial. It certainly set the expectations high for any adaptation they might make now, and for good reason.
ARTHUR WILL RISE AGAIN.
arthur pendragon be like: "there's something about you merlin, i can't quite put my finger on it" mf that was just your bisexual awakening
Arthur is bad at gift giving. Like, no, he isn't, not normally. He's just bad at giving gifts to MERLIN.
Because everyone else appreciates the thought or the worth of the gift. But usually, Merlin is the one send out to buy them or even come up with the idea or reminding Arthur of the birthdays.
So, it's just Merlin that Arthur can't find gifts for.
Every time he gives him something expensive, Merlin just sells it and gives the money away. Buys herbs with it or anything else.
The clothes Arthur gives him, Merlin never wears unless he forces him to wear them in formal settings.
A day off is accepted with suspicion and a full day of Merlin trying to figure out what's wrong with Arthur.
One Christmas, Arthur decides to try something new. He draws Merlin a picture. It's not a good drawing, it's just put on old parchment he can't use for speeches anyway, it's not a painted one from the royal painter as Merlin wouldn't know where to put a huge framed picture.
It's just a sketch really about Merlin and Gwen talking animately in Arthur's chambers because Arthur loved the sight and hasn't actually been able to work that day, when the people he wanted to be with were right there.
Arthur doesn't sign the picture, too scared of Merlin's response. He gifts him a new scarf alongside it because he's insecure.
Merlin cries when he finds it.
Like, he walks around and shows everyone and praises how much effort and skill had gone into it. He keeps it in a drawer and looks at it every day and never shuts up about it.
Arthur feels so encouraged, he starts drawing something for Merlin every day. And the next christmas, he looks Merlin straight in the eyes and gives him the whole folder.
Merlin, who hadn't known it was a gift from Arthur, nearly melts. And then he looks through the paintings and finds one of himself using magic. He doesn't say anything. He's too speechless to talk. He grabs Arthur and hugs him.
Arthur becomes really good at art after that.
💥🙌👏
so when straight people ask me why I say I’m “queer” or “gay” instead of sharing my actual identity as a panromantic demisexual non-binary sapphic queer I just tell them “ok look, when you’re talking to someone who isn’t local and they ask you where you’re from and you either say the name of the largest city nearby or ‘town name, suburb of large nearby city’ so they can get some geographical context of where you’re located right, bc they’re probably not going to know the name of the little town you actually live in.”
but if you’re talking to a local you can say the name of your actual town bc they have a greater chance of knowing where/what that is.
ok well when I’m talking to a straight person I start with queer bc chances are they aren’t as familiar with the context of all the little towns in that big queer city and need gps (gay positioning system) to find me.
if I’m talking to another queer person and I say I live in a suburb of gay city in a town called panromantic on the demisexual side of the tracks which is in the county of queer and I live off the intersection of non-binary and sapphic, they’d probably be able to find me with little to no problems, make sense?
”Gay ass” I say as i willingly read a gay fanfiction.
this is just me shitposting stuff I like. thanks for stopping by!
