Changes coming leading into 2019;

I’ve established that _Jammo_ as a name is something my friend and I want to cultivate into an apparel brand and self-publisher featuring my manga, catalogs, zines, stationary, etc.

I’m at inches away from giving up at times, but last night I had the worst pain ever in my for years of my illness and sort of just got out of the shower and sat down at my computer and bought the domain name Shop-Jammo.com. Jonathan and I spent hours on the website and it’s absolutely beautiful. I cannot wait to share it with you. It hosts an archive, a live Instagram feed, a store, collections archive (lookbook), a blog, and hopefully an online reader to preview all of our print material when we get beyond our first self-published manga short story and re-prints of my “Welcome Back” zine a lot of you liked.

For real though, all of my money is in this. I’m literally going all in, and I want to say I love you guys for not giving up on me and supporting me as a person and hopefully _Jammo_ as a brand in the short and long-term. I don’t have anything too kind to say regarding the comments on my last post because it isn’t the sort of post I made for attention necessarily. I’m just thankful and feel love for and from you all (￣O￣;)🌱 And also, I promise to do the contest results soon. If I’m honest, I just cannot decide between a couple and I had to prioritize this website to be up-to-speed with my own progress. I promise the wait is worth-while!! You guys will… get the best prizes ever!!

このイラストは「ソラニン」という好きな漫画と映画からファンアートです。 2011年から俺はソラニン経由で浅野いにおの世界をだんだん発見でした。その時期から最近まで、自分の中で漫画の意味がたいへん変わったです。

This illustration is a fan art from a favorite manga and film by Inio Asano, “Solanin”.

Starting from 2011 from Solanin, I over-time discovered Inio Asano’s world. Since then, the meaning of manga within myself has really changed.

That time surely will surely not be forgotten 🌱

I think maybe “shoujiki manga” is a better name than “depressed manga” (on the internet, “utsumanga” is a popular term to label this sort of ‘sad’ manga created by Asano-sensei and peers like Oshimi Shuzo and Kengo Hanazawa.

Btw in Tokyo there’s currently a 20th anniversary celebration going on! Big exhibition and pop-up shop in Ikebukuro accompanied by his 2nd art book (first in a decade) “CtrL+T2.” If you’re a fan of his works, most of them are translated in English by either VIZ, Fantagraphics, or Vertical. If not in English, please support the Japanese releases through Kinokuniya book web, Amazon, or websites like CDJapan (￣▽￣)👍🏻Remember that scanlations are a great way to discover manga 🙆🏻‍♀️ but not a great way to collect manga 🙅🏻‍♀️

...With Gettyimages and Adobe; two of the most scummy companies in their fields; bringing out their own paywalled AI trained on "ethical data," (IE, officially licensed from the mountains they own) I hope we can use this opportunity to step back and stop talking about the AI art debate in terms of copyright and "theft" and more in terms of corporate exploitation and labor rights.

Because, like, the results will be the same with regards to jobs if megacorps end up using Adobe's or Getty's model in the way they'd use; say; Stablediffusion and Midjourney; without a labor pushback they'd still use it to kill jobs.

And even with the "compensation system" they talk about, which they'll conveniently use as an excuse to keep it paywalled and closed-source, I bet you my bottom dollar they're talking about a Spotify-type model. Which, if you're familiar with the music industry, you do not want a Spotify-type model.

The difference is, if Stablediffusion gets sued out of existence, you won't be able to access the tool without a paywall. And both Adobe and Getty Images have very high paywalls.

Whereas Stablediffusion, by contrast, is very much open-source and free. A lot of people run it independently online for anyone to use and if you have a PC that can run it, you can use it offline; no strings attached. Which means you can do it and tweak it as you wish, doubly so if you already have art skills.

And it's awfully suspicious in this state that Getty is in a lawsuit to try and kill SD over the "stealing" claims in a way that would leave their product as a paywalled monopoly at their whims with no Open Source alternatives.

Like... at the very least don't get played by their talk of "ethics," because even if they're licensed, in my eyes they're far less ethical than SD I'd assert, due to creating a precedent for putting this technology behind a corporate walled garden in a way that keeps other creators from using it while still killing traditional artist jobs dead if we don't push back as a collective labor force.
