Itās important to look at the meanings of tarot cards, but itās very possible to pull even more out of a reading that individual card meanings. Hereās some other stuff you might consider bringing into your interpretation when it feels right:
šThe position of the cards. This is why spread design can be so important! Iāve had instances where all the cards, in their positions, had the subjects looking or pointing towards one specific card. It was wild. What did it mean? Maybe nothing, but maybe something very significant, depending on the question!
šThe visual element of the cards. Sometimes whatās depicted on the card can give more specific insight than the actual book meanings. The pictures were done that way for a reason, so donāt be afraid to give them their own weight! Also, sometimes the spread as a whole will have a flow of design (like when one half is much brighter than the other) or a specific card is WAY more colorful than the other cards on the table. Any of these could potentially carry meaning.
šJumper cards. This is when a card pops out while youāre shuffling! I usually just put them back⦠UNLESS the question has already been presented, and Iām shuffling with that question in mind. Then, I keep them as extra advice, bonus cards.
šReoccurring numbers. Maybe you do a four card spread for a friend, and you get the four of cups, four of swords, four of wands, and the Emperor! (IV.) What does that mean? What does the number four symbolize? Well, a lot of things, potentially, depending on what you study. Some tarot designs incorporate the Kabbalahās numbered paths in the tree of life, others go with numerology. Maybe, the number four just means something special to you or the querent in particular.
šA bunch of cards in order. Iām not talking about when you forget to shuffle. Iām talking about when you give it a really good shuffle and you still get the ace, two, and three of Pentacles all in a row. This can be seen as a sign of progression, or that the events are all much more closely connected than anticipated. It can also mean it happens over a shorter period of time than normal. Itās up to you, your cards, and the contexts.
šProportions of different features. Maybe youāre doing an obstacle spread, and your obstacle is something like the nine of swords. Thatās pretty nasty, but if all the other cards in the spread are Major Arcana, then itās probably not going to be that difficult to surmount. The reverse can also be true. Additionally, a high number of reversed cards in a spread typically signifies a lot of confusion, conflict, and turmoil.
šReoccurring symbols. Beyond just the four suits, because thatās a given! But maybe your spread shows a lot of cards with images of fire, people dancing, or birds. Do these mean anything to you or the querent? What do they typically symbolize?
šAny hiccups or unusual events during the reading. Once I had a querent pick up a card to examine it, drop it, then pick it up and put it back reversed. Since it was the overall outcome card, I interpreted that as a heightened ability to change her own fate in this given situation, since she had turned the card from quite a bad omen to a good one. Sometimes little accidents like dropping cards, accidentally shifting them, or laying out the spread wrong are meant to be there and add to the meaning!
I hope this gives you some ideas! Feel free to add more. What do you interpret alongside the cards in a reading?

The "I will only worship the gods if they will do things for me" mentality is not only delusional, but also unhealthy.
If your love and devotion are only for expectations of rewards, then you really need to rethink what love and devotion mean.
Humans don't want conditional love. What makes you think the gods do?
No one, mortal or divine, owes you anything. No one is obligated to do anything for you. And if you only desire a relationship for your own gain, then it's not a relationship; it's a business transaction. And this is something that humans would scorn, much less gods.
We do things for people we love and care about, because that's what we do for those we love and care about, not because we expect things in return. And for those who know how to love, this is naturally reciprocal, and the relationship is a healthy give and take. This is what it means to have kharis with the gods. It is the foundation of relationship building.
The gods don't need your love. They don't need you to worship them. If you're going to treat gods as divine ATMs or vending machines, then you might as well give your money to churches that will let you buy your way into heaven.
Who is ready for another journal Prompt for their shadow work journey?
This prompt is looking into more towards our insecurities and how we can work with them rather than against them.
1. List your current struggle(s) when it comes to loving yourself. This can be any aspect about yourself that holds you back from fully loving yourself unconditionally.
2. What habit(s) do you want to begin this month? I donāt know about you but I procrastinate a lot. I tend to lose interest quickly if I donāt start making changes now. Many times this is meaning I get started during the middle of the month. In my opinion, it doesnāt have to be specifically in the beginning of a new month. Changes happen all the time, regardless of the month. Get started now, donāt wait.
3. What are the compliment(s) you struggle to accept about yourself? Why? I personally struggle with compliments when it comes to my appearance. It makes me uncomfortable and I donāt fully enjoy them because mainly I didnāt believe that it is true. This journal prompt helped me realize that I need to start believing what people are saying to me about my appearance.
4. How can you use your negative qualities and spin them around to bring positivity into your life? This takes quite a long time to master honestly, this process is retraining your brain to reject the self sabotaging and stop to notice the feelings that are negative, acknowledge the emotion and turning it positive. For example instead of saying, āIām bad at Mathā say āI make progress everyday with Mathā, etc.
We are all still a work in progress, by all means take your time and remember to reach out to a licensed professional if you need to. My inbox is open for support if anyone needs help or just needs to talk. I am not a licensed professional.
I hope these bring you all healing and clarity in your Shadow Work Journey.
