Personally I never liked Alina or Mal.

Mal was just- he was something to say the least.

And as this lovely person said Alina just doesn’t care about anything but Mal. Ever since the very moment she found out she was grisha and could help her country, she just wanted to go back to Mal. I feel as if she never had any real interest in protecting or the wellbeing of grisha. During r&r we see Alina get extremely power hungry. She was extremely restless and rude towards Mal and everyone else because she so desperately wanted the firebird. When Nikolai proposes to her for obviously political interest she says no. Nikolai tells her that if they got married it could be good for this country seeing as she is grisha and seen as a saint by the people. She could aid the country and help unite the armies to make ravka stronger. Tbh it was in the country’s best interest but she shows no interest in helping the country whatsoever.

Throughout the entire series Aleksander was dehumanized by LB so much. I think it had something to do with the fact that she supposedly based his character off of her manipulative ex(?). At the end of r&rhe we see a side of aleksander that was more human as he died.

The one thing I can agree with M*lina shippers is the confusion over the fact a grown man like the darkling acts the way he does. He’s petty. He spends most of his time in book 2 & 3 doing evil cookie jar acts and using the force to spy on Alina. The thing is, this character is written this way. Most of the characters are annoying because they’re poorly written. The plot drives the characters not the other way around, so their growth remains stagnant. As a morally grey character, Aleks works so well. He cares for ravka and he’ll be the one to cross the line if it means the grisha are kept safe. But instead, he got retconned into a villain with no real plan, kills other grisha, forms an alliance with Fjerda, and dies. His death does nothing except make things worse. I’m so glad for Ben’s portrayal because he brought humanity to the character and the audience can sympathize with his plight. JML and Ben’s approach to darklina is also realistic compared to the book counterparts although I’m not really a shipper tbh. I prefer Luda because I feel like she is the perfect balance for Aleksander. She was clearly powerful, compassion and trustworthy

I mean, the thing with the Darkling is that the person that created him doesn't treat him like a human. So I wouldn't say that we could even call him 'a grown man', as my friend @yototothelalafell has pointed out about the book, he is incredibly dehumanised. So, in a Watsonian perspective, if he is not human and/or treated as such. Can we even expect him to act like a 'grown up man'? Is he even treated like a man at all?

Also, when LB is doing her stupid baiting in the first half of SaB, she basically describes him as every soldier's dream general: he goes around checking his troops instead of staying at court, eats with his men and overall seems like a polite person that his men keep following because he has managed to give all these people that would be burned or cut open in other places a home and position above "those dirty witches".

Then after presenting him like a perfectly reasonable person who is encouraging Alina, she just throws that 'twist' and opens the Evil Deeds Cookie Jar to never close it again. And as you said, the plot moves him because the plot needs a villain, his arc doesn't require villainy. I really can't say that I agree with m/alina shippers on anything because you don't need to ship Alina with someone to understand the characters are badly written, and even then the argument is wrong and seems to come from just dissing the Darkling. I mean, Mal doesn't act like a young man in a XIX setting either, he acts like a jerk jock from an American TV show and I can say that without shipping darklina because I don't really ship them in the books since they have little to no interactions that have enough emotional weight.

I mean, if you look at it from a character perspective, Fanon!Alina is... Basically Luda with Sun Summoner powers? Is Alina caring and warm? No. She is defensive and sarcastic to a point of being rude. Does she care about the Grisha? No, because she leaves them all to live as a rich woman in her orphanage. Does she embrace her identity as a Grisha and helps in the cause? No, because in the moment she loses her powers she says she is no Grisha anymore, even when her friends tell her the contrary.

All of this is the contrary of Luda, we see her complicit on Aleksander training the Grisha since the soldier says 'you two could train witches'. We see her being caring and warm with Aleksander and that he trusts her enough to make her aware of his immortality. Every time I see darklinas dismissing her to prop up Alina I am like: Sure, but Alina will murder him. No talk about soulmates can fix that.

I think cis people who don't have gender dysphoria but just want to mess around with gender and are fully informed about all that hormones do should be able to easily get hrt if they want it. I think cis women that hate their chest and feel like its stressing them out quite a bit should be able to get top surgery and get it covered if they want to. I think cis men who hate or just dislike their body hair and want it removed, should be able to get it removed and that should be covered. I think anyone who wants bottom surgery should have access to it.

Like it's your body. You get to make these decisions. Not a doctor or a psychiatrist. The way transition is something that in many doctor's eyes only binary trans people should get access to just reinforces that we should all try being as close to the cis ideal as we can.

I've been seeing a lot of posts about how, yes cis people can also use whatever pronouns they like, but honestly? Cis people can have whatever access to any part of "transition" they desire.

You clutch onto Fedoyr’s wrist as he works. The itch of healing makes your skin crawl, desperate to scrape your nails over the wound. Through your discomfort, you loosen your hold when you notice he’s gritting his teeth. 

“Sorry.” You say quietly. 

“It’s okay.” He insists, and you swallow a sob. Because it’s not okay. But it is. And it isn’t. You’re finally safe. You have your power back. But Aleksander is facing Alina and her small army without you. Despite all this swirling in your mind, the only thing you can focus on is what you’re going to say to Fedoyr. If he’s taken Ivan’s place beside Aleksander then surely he knows what happened. That you watched his husband die. You, a powerful Shadow Summoner, one of the two people who had vowed to protect all Grisha - to keep them safe. Ivan knew the risks. Defending you and Aleksander was the only thing he wanted to do. Which is perhaps why the ache in your chest doesn’t alleviate with Fedoyr’s healing. Once the wound is closed, he cleans the blood from your skin, before stepping back to admire his handiwork. “Better?” You follow his gaze, looking over the shining scar that now runs across the majority of your left shoulder and snakes around to reach for your shoulder blade. The line of Alina’s Cut was ragged, though you’re not sure if that’s from her lack of experience or if that’s just what a blade of light does to skin. You move your shoulder carefully, it aches, but the skin remains intact. You smile appreciatively, 

“As good as new.” 

“It’s good to see you, Lieutenant.” He says quietly, and you swallow hard,

“You too, Fedoyr.”

You look away, taking in your surroundings. Aleksander’s Grisha have created a makeshift camp in the woods. It must have been built recently as there’s no way the First Army patrols could have missed them. There are a few injuries, no doubt acquired during the fight with the First Army and Alina’s remaining Grisha, but not as many as expected. The Grisha that had sided with Aleksander were mostly well accustomed to fighting in a war, and it seems his nichevo'ya had taken the brunt of the attack. It’s a smart move - intended to protect the few Grisha left. You can’t help but worry for the toll it’s taken on Aleksander. 

There’s a terrible rumbling sound in the distance, almost like an avalanche. It shakes the ground with a groan that you feel in your chest. You all turn towards the source of the noise, as a cloud of dust flares up into the shadowed sky. You hear Fedoyr say,

“The chapel’s collapsed.” The ringing returns to your ears, you hadn’t even been aware how much better you felt until your world stood still. You sense the nichevo'ya flocking to the chapel.

Everyone turns to look at Y/N playing and singing as they all stop what there doing.

When Yelena walks in the room she wonders what everyone is looking at so she follows there gaze and she sees why her first thought is her face is full of pain.

"And to her, I just can't be true And I know that she knows I'm unfaithful And it kills her inside To know that I am happy with some other girl I can see her dying"

Yelena takes a seat her eyes never leaving this goddess playing piano she sees her features going pained as her heart goes into the next lyric.

"I don't wanna do this anymore I don't wanna be the reason why Every time I walk out the door I see her die a little more inside I don't wanna hurt her anymore I don't wanna take away her life"

Y/N eyes finds yelena's as she sings the next line staring into yelena's eyes and yelena only thought that was the sexiest thing she has ever seen.

"I don't wanna be a murderer"

Yelena takes a shot of vodka as she begins to walk towards the stage.

"I feel it in the air as I'm doin' my hair Preparing for another date A kiss upon my cheek as she reluctantly Asks if I'm gonna be out late I say I won't be long, just hanging with the girls A lie I didn't have to tell Because we both know where I'm about to go And we know it very well"

A tear falls down Y/N's cheek obviously feeling past pain of something that has happened that's still to fresh.

"Cause I know that she knows I'm unfaithful And it kills her inside To know that I am happy with some other Woman I can see her dying"

With each word Yelena's heart broke for the girl in front of her as she can know see the tears flow down her face.

"I don't wanna do this anymore I don't wanna be the reason why Every time I walk out the door I see her die a little more inside I don't wanna hurt her anymore I don't wanna take away her life I don't wanna be a murderer"

Yelena turned to Natasha seeing tears fill her sisters eyes as yelena scanned the room to see everyone with tears in there eyes.

"Our love, her trust I might as well take a gun and put it to her head Get it over with I don't wanna do this anymore Whoa, anymore And I don't wanna do this anymore I don't wanna be the reason why And every time I walk out the door I see her die a little more inside And I don't wanna hurt her anymore"

Yelena's attention turned back to the girl she seems to have taken a breath then turned into a whisper as she turned to fury with sadness and anger in her eyes as she continued.

"I don't wanna take away her life I don't wanna be a murderer A murderer No, no, no Yeah, yeah"

With that she finishes and wipes her eyes as she gets off the stage Yelena went to go and speak with her but before she could she approaches fury.

"I'm Done...im not gonna be your little puppet I can't... I had to hurt the only person who cares for me when you wanted me to seduce her for information that was a 6 month job and in those 6 months I was in national city I fell for Alex"

Y/N takes a breath feeling fresh tears but she held them back and looked at fury once more.

" It was your job Agent Y/L/N and if people get hurt so be it....its what you were born for do you really think someone could truly love a siren who in myths lead good people to there deaths by there voice and beauty you simply done what you do in books thats all or do I have to remind you who saved you from the circus"

Y/N shook her head as she slapped fury across the face tears know streaming down her face as she looked at him.

"What you made me do I would have been more merciful if you put a gun in my hand and I shot her then what you made me do.....at least when I was at the circus yes I was a abused but at least no one got hurt except me"

Y/N turned to walk away but before she did she turned to fury once more.

"You know nick you called yourself my saviour when you freed me....you couldn't have been more wrong you were the devil in a mask offering me your hand but instead of going to a better place you dragged me to hell for eternal torment....I wish you had shot me it would have been kinder.......your no hero....your the villain"

With that Y/N walked away as everyone turned to nick who stood there with no emotion on his face when yelena spoke up.

"You know it is people like you that cause these beautiful creatures to stay hidden because they know you will exploit them dipshit....oh and one more thing"

Yelena pulls out her gun on fury and points it at him as everyone is shocked and there unsure of what to do as they don't want things to escalate.

"I will not be your Black Widow I will not be an Avenger so long as your in charge so go fuck yourself"

With that yelena walks out to go and find the siren.
