Y/N is attending one of Tony's famous gala parties just so he can show her off much to pepper's dismay.

So She wonders to the bar for a drink after downing her 4th shot of vodka she spots a piano so she wonders over and being's to play.

Everyone turns to look at Y/N playing and singing as they all stop what there doing.

When Yelena walks in the room she wonders what everyone is looking at so she follows there gaze and she sees why her first thought is her face is full of pain.

Yelena takes a seat her eyes never leaving this goddess playing piano she sees her features going pained as her heart goes into the next lyric.

Y/N eyes finds yelena's as she sings the next line staring into yelena's eyes and yelena only thought that was the sexiest thing she has ever seen.

Yelena takes a shot of vodka as she begins to walk towards the stage.

A tear falls down Y/N's cheek obviously feeling past pain of something that has happened that's still to fresh.

With each word Yelena's heart broke for the girl in front of her as she can know see the tears flow down her face.

"I don't wanna do this anymore I don't wanna be the reason why Every time I walk out the door I see her die a little more inside I don't wanna hurt her anymore I don't wanna take away her life I don't wanna be a murderer"

Yelena turned to Natasha seeing tears fill her sisters eyes as yelena scanned the room to see everyone with tears in there eyes.

"Our love, her trust I might as well take a gun and put it to her head Get it over with I don't wanna do this anymore Whoa, anymore And I don't wanna do this anymore I don't wanna be the reason why And every time I walk out the door I see her die a little more inside And I don't wanna hurt her anymore"

Yelena's attention turned back to the girl she seems to have taken a breath then turned into a whisper as she turned to fury with sadness and anger in her eyes as she continued.

"I don't wanna take away her life I don't wanna be a murderer A murderer No, no, no Yeah, yeah"

With that she finishes and wipes her eyes as she gets off the stage Yelena went to go and speak with her but before she could she approaches fury.

"I'm Done...im not gonna be your little puppet I can't... I had to hurt the only person who cares for me when you wanted me to seduce her for information that was a 6 month job and in those 6 months I was in national city I fell for Alex"

Y/N takes a breath feeling fresh tears but she held them back and looked at fury once more.

" It was your job Agent Y/L/N and if people get hurt so be it....its what you were born for do you really think someone could truly love a siren who in myths lead good people to there deaths by there voice and beauty you simply done what you do in books thats all or do I have to remind you who saved you from the circus"

Y/N shook her head as she slapped fury across the face tears know streaming down her face as she looked at him.

"What you made me do I would have been more merciful if you put a gun in my hand and I shot her then what you made me do.....at least when I was at the circus yes I was a abused but at least no one got hurt except me"

Y/N turned to walk away but before she did she turned to fury once more.

"You know nick you called yourself my saviour when you freed me....you couldn't have been more wrong you were the devil in a mask offering me your hand but instead of going to a better place you dragged me to hell for eternal torment....I wish you had shot me it would have been kinder.......your no hero....your the villain"

With that Y/N walked away as everyone turned to nick who stood there with no emotion on his face when yelena spoke up.

"You know it is people like you that cause these beautiful creatures to stay hidden because they know you will exploit them dipshit....oh and one more thing"

Yelena pulls out her gun on fury and points it at him as everyone is shocked and there unsure of what to do as they don't want things to escalate.

"I will not be your Black Widow I will not be an Avenger so long as your in charge so go fuck yourself"

With that yelena walks out to go and find the siren.

SUMMARY: You’re locked in your room when you refuse to take part in the Darkling’s plans to “change the world.”

Your room in the Little Palace was no longer a place of comfort. It was confinement. The curtains were drawn and could not be moved, so it always looked like the evening to you. You would only have a general idea of the time of day when Genya would swiftly open the door to leave your room. It was unclear if days or weeks had passed, but one thing was certain: your cabin fever had turned into insanity. You needed to see him. You begged for him, but stopped asking Genya once she stopped answering. Her task was only to come into your room three times a day and yours was to ignore everything she gave you until she left. You would only take small pieces of your food until you stopped shaking from hunger, but to Genya, you were not eating. This was your punishment for refusing the Darkling’s offer to change the world. 

Today, you were done picking at your plate so you focused on your hands. Spheres of light danced around your fingers and weaved in between your thumbs. It was like that for a while, until they snapped out of existence once the door rattled. The familiar sound of keys beating against each other had you shift your attention away from the door since the wall was much more interesting, anyway. Once the door opened, it closed quickly, and the room was silent again. Genya must have been there to retrieve your leftovers, but the sound of her grabbing the silverware never came. You did not want to seem interested, so you never peaked. You kept focusing on the details of the curtains and the intricate carvings on the table by the window. 

“You’re not eating,” Aleksander’s whispers traveled past your ears. You wanted to see him, but you did not want to bring him satisfaction. You both stood there in the darkness as you both pretended not to hear each other breathing. 

“Why?” You questioned. You had not spoken for a while, and it was clear in the strain and shake in your voice. 

“I gave you the option to rule with me,” he said, but this time he sounded closer. 

“No, you didn’t,” you said. 

“Remember, you’re free to go back home if you ask.” 

“At the expense of Mal’s safety!” You roughly tucked your hands into each other. 

“You made that decision.” His voice came out very flat. 

You slowly turned your neck enough to see his chest in your peripheral vision. “You’re good at lying.” You gave him the same flat tone you received. 

“I never–-” His boots beat against the wooden floor until they came to the other side of your bed. You saw how well crafted they were as you avoided his gaze. “Once we grew closer, I regretted it immediately.” He paused for a moment before he said, “may you please look at me?” 

“What made you even think I would ever agree to–-” your anger was interrupted. 

“It’s the only remedy to the structure of this society.” His voice rose for a second before it instantly went back down. His fingers reached for your chin and you snapped it away. The atmosphere was tense as the air was filled with all the words that were just said. There was more silence until you felt brave enough to speak. 

“Is Mal still okay?” you whispered.

Yeah this is the most relatable thing I’ve ever seen

Personally I never liked Alina or Mal.

Mal was just- he was something to say the least.

And as this lovely person said Alina just doesn’t care about anything but Mal. Ever since the very moment she found out she was grisha and could help her country, she just wanted to go back to Mal. I feel as if she never had any real interest in protecting or the wellbeing of grisha. During r&r we see Alina get extremely power hungry. She was extremely restless and rude towards Mal and everyone else because she so desperately wanted the firebird. When Nikolai proposes to her for obviously political interest she says no. Nikolai tells her that if they got married it could be good for this country seeing as she is grisha and seen as a saint by the people. She could aid the country and help unite the armies to make ravka stronger. Tbh it was in the country’s best interest but she shows no interest in helping the country whatsoever.

Throughout the entire series Aleksander was dehumanized by LB so much. I think it had something to do with the fact that she supposedly based his character off of her manipulative ex(?). At the end of r&rhe we see a side of aleksander that was more human as he died.

The one thing I can agree with M*lina shippers is the confusion over the fact a grown man like the darkling acts the way he does. He’s petty. He spends most of his time in book 2 & 3 doing evil cookie jar acts and using the force to spy on Alina. The thing is, this character is written this way. Most of the characters are annoying because they’re poorly written. The plot drives the characters not the other way around, so their growth remains stagnant. As a morally grey character, Aleks works so well. He cares for ravka and he’ll be the one to cross the line if it means the grisha are kept safe. But instead, he got retconned into a villain with no real plan, kills other grisha, forms an alliance with Fjerda, and dies. His death does nothing except make things worse. I’m so glad for Ben’s portrayal because he brought humanity to the character and the audience can sympathize with his plight. JML and Ben’s approach to darklina is also realistic compared to the book counterparts although I’m not really a shipper tbh. I prefer Luda because I feel like she is the perfect balance for Aleksander. She was clearly powerful, compassion and trustworthy

I mean, the thing with the Darkling is that the person that created him doesn't treat him like a human. So I wouldn't say that we could even call him 'a grown man', as my friend @yototothelalafell has pointed out about the book, he is incredibly dehumanised. So, in a Watsonian perspective, if he is not human and/or treated as such. Can we even expect him to act like a 'grown up man'? Is he even treated like a man at all?

Also, when LB is doing her stupid baiting in the first half of SaB, she basically describes him as every soldier's dream general: he goes around checking his troops instead of staying at court, eats with his men and overall seems like a polite person that his men keep following because he has managed to give all these people that would be burned or cut open in other places a home and position above "those dirty witches".

Then after presenting him like a perfectly reasonable person who is encouraging Alina, she just throws that 'twist' and opens the Evil Deeds Cookie Jar to never close it again. And as you said, the plot moves him because the plot needs a villain, his arc doesn't require villainy. I really can't say that I agree with m/alina shippers on anything because you don't need to ship Alina with someone to understand the characters are badly written, and even then the argument is wrong and seems to come from just dissing the Darkling. I mean, Mal doesn't act like a young man in a XIX setting either, he acts like a jerk jock from an American TV show and I can say that without shipping darklina because I don't really ship them in the books since they have little to no interactions that have enough emotional weight.

I mean, if you look at it from a character perspective, Fanon!Alina is... Basically Luda with Sun Summoner powers? Is Alina caring and warm? No. She is defensive and sarcastic to a point of being rude. Does she care about the Grisha? No, because she leaves them all to live as a rich woman in her orphanage. Does she embrace her identity as a Grisha and helps in the cause? No, because in the moment she loses her powers she says she is no Grisha anymore, even when her friends tell her the contrary.

All of this is the contrary of Luda, we see her complicit on Aleksander training the Grisha since the soldier says 'you two could train witches'. We see her being caring and warm with Aleksander and that he trusts her enough to make her aware of his immortality. Every time I see darklinas dismissing her to prop up Alina I am like: Sure, but Alina will murder him. No talk about soulmates can fix that.

This right here is facts. Say it louder for the people in the back.

I swear, after Alina left LP she was giving me headaches(well, more like LB did). All Darkling's bad and evil characteristics/deeds were conjured from thin air. No witnesses, no proof. Her stay at LP and people reacting to him tells us otherwise. Not even Baghra painted him like that. Why are assumptions presented as facts. Why does the author thinks that's enough? And why do I feel like I'm being gaslighted??

You’re preaching to the choir, Anon. 🙌 I truly do not know. And it really does pain me, because with a few small changes all of these things could have been resolved easily.

There are various times throughout the book when LB writes one thing, Alina says another thing happened, and then chapters later Alina says yet another thing happened. It’s like a slow creeping game of telephone that’s gets more and more different with each recitation.

It made me feel like I was remembering things wrong, I’d go back and realize, Alina was wrong, but it’s not treated like a statement from an unreliable narrator. It’s not addressed or broken down or used later for some form of catharsis. There’s never any pushback from the narrative.

Things that would have improved the story (with little effort):

Have Alina notice things are out of place at the LP, have her develop her sleuthing skills, just enough that she discovers things to later put together. This would support Baghra’s claims.

Have her find her letters in Genya’s room.

More scenes with the Apparat (because that feels like a dropped political plot line)

Another scene with the king where he tries to sway her away from Grisha/the Darkling.

Scenes with other Grisha outside of Marie and Nadia- the only Grisha Alina ever interacts with other than Genya. She needs to talk with them, see the lives they’ve lived, the things they’ve endured, the horrible things they’ve escaped from. Have her talk to the children, maybe ones from Kerch or Fjerda.

Alina needs to see the impact of the war on Grisha- have her see Grisha recovering from captivity in Shu Han in the infirmary. Just glimpses whole her ribs are healing. Enough for her to imagine another life and another fate she might have endured.

Issues with Catharsis (the plot twist sucks):

She already doesn’t trust the Darkling which lessens the effectiveness of the reveal. LB telegraphed the Darkling reveal from Day 1, so when the hot guy all in black called the Darkling ends up being the bad guy… gasp? I mean fucking duh.

So, when Alina’s all “you betrayed me!” I’m over here like… this was entirely expected and I don’t know why you’re so surprised.

Alina is never convinced, she never buys into it, and without that investment, the reader can’t invest either.

Baghra’s claims… are just ridiculous. And the only way they make sense is if you know the ending beforehand. That is bad writing. There’s no clues littered along the way, no evidence of some master plan of manipulation on the Darkling’s part. Alina just believes Baghra based on zero evidence.

In Alina’s position, who are you going to believe: the man who’s supported you every step of the way, saved your life, and you have a budding romance with?

Or, the woman who hits you all the time, never calls you by your name, insults you, drugs you, and never gives an ounce of encouragement or approval at any of your accomplishments? Who’s now screaming that the Darkling is going to lay waste to the world and have volcra eat everyone.

LB is nuts if she thinks I’m going to believe Baghra in this scenario.

It’s presented as a zero sum game: spend a short life running, or live as a slave.

But it’s a false dichotomy. These are not Alina’s only choices.

The solution is simple: Alina needs more information. She should have stayed at the Little Palace to gather evidence. Jump into a cat and mouse game that could have been absolutely hair raising with suspense.

If she had made her own choices, taken her agency and her position of power, the story would have been much more interesting. But instead, she allows everyone else to make choices for her.

And LB only encourages that, and punishes Alina when she does claw her way into some agency. You’re right, Anon, at a certain point it feels like she’s gaslighting the reader. Making me question my own reading of the story, and carrying on with this altered version of events that never happened.

Brekker’s lips quirked. “I’ll just hire Matthias’ ghost to kick your ghost’s ass.”

“My ghost won’t associate with your ghost,”

“We enter from the north as planned,” Kaz said. Jesper knocked his head against the hull and cast his eyes heavenward. “Fine. But if Pekka Rollins kills us all, I’m going to get Wylan’s ghost to teach my ghost how to play the flute just so that I can annoy the hell out of your ghost.”
