katsuki and Izuku literally are two childhood friends turned into rivals because they both think the other is better than themselves, both wanting each other's opinion and approval for their techniques (created inspired of or for each other btw), with Izuku fanboying about everything Katsuki does meanwhile Katsuki absolutely has no love interest whatsoever in the story and only cares about what Izuku's doing, thinking about, and finally only shows vulnerability in front of him since he trusts him the most and people expect me not to ship that shit???

Soulmate AU

The second the delicate red string tied in a pretty bow showed up on his pinky finger he scoffed. Bakugo scoffed at the idea that a stupid string is going to determine who he ends up with. He hates not being able to make his own choices so that made him start to resent the little string and you, who he has never met, as well.

He spent a lot of his time pretending the string didn’t exist. Everytime he looked at it he felt a wave of anger hit him, he wasn’t one to date but to spite the string he tried to. He eventually stopped because the more he tried the emptier he felt, his heart wasn’t in it and he felt like a hollow shell at the end of each date.

Deep inside him he felt a sense of loyalty towards the dainty string on his finger and to you, the person on the other side of the string. He never did try to find you, he never tried to follow the string because he realized something.

He was afraid.

He wasn’t scared about you or what you would look like, he could care less. He was afraid that you would look at him and think he was disappointing. He was scared that he wasn’t good enough for you. He was afraid that the one person who was made for him would reject him.

What if even his soulmate didn’t want him? The thought plagued his thoughts every time he saw the thin string and every time he saw himself. He didn’t spend much time looking at the red line anymore.

He doesn’t let his thoughts dwell too much on you and the string and tries to focus on his studies and his future. One day he hears that there’s going to be a transfer student, he doesn’t really care and doesn’t pay attention when said student walks into the room. He instead finds himself staring to the side at the wall next to him.

Then suddenly he feels a small tug on his finger, his pinky finger where the red string is tied securely. He thinks he’s imagining it but then he feels a more forceful one and he follows the dainty string with his eyes. It goes past his classmates and cuts through the class and leads to you.

His eyes widen in surprise as he takes you in. He never expected to see you here and he suddenly feels incredibly strange. He can’t seem to remember if he brushed his hair in the morning or if he even put on any cologne and he doesn’t know why he’s trying to remember. A deep sense of security and warmth washes over him the second he meets your eyes and you give him a soft smile.

You’re assigned to sit in front of him, the closer you walk to him the more the string shrinks. He doesn’t know why but he never wants the pretty red string to ever get longer. In a very uncharacteristic way he leans closer and whispers in your ear,“Hey, I’m Bakugou Katsuki.”

He thinks to himself as you whisper your name back that maybe this string isn’t complete bullshit. Maybe it’s okay that he doesn’t get to make every single decision in his life. For the first time, he looks at the string, the lifeline, with a look full of peace and contentment.

izuku growing up with only yarrows from inko. everlasting love. they are the first flowers he’s ever had blooming in him—the first he collected. he saw their little buds and knew they are from his mother’s, and izuku hopes his flowers for her are just as beautiful.

they are. inko blooms sunflowers from him. adoration.

when izuku meets katsuki, he blooms white gardenias. inko giggled when izuku showed her his flowers from katsuki, blushing brightly. you are lovely.

he wonders what his flowers for katsuki are, and if he likes them as much as izuku loves his. (purple delphinium. first love. katsuki strongly does.)

when he turns ten, he stopped blooming gardenias. izuku waits, seeing if katsuki would have more flowers for him. but he is empty, and izuku goes back to only having yarrows. he cries that night, holding onto the jars filled with dried gardenias.

(katsuki stopped blooming delphiniums. a week later, a blue salvia flutters from his throat. i think of you.)

it’s years later when izuku meets all might that yarrows are joined by different flowers again. blue iris from toshinori. faith and hope, a flower for izuku’s long journey.

and when izuku gets into ua, more flowers unfurl in him—a garden in his own right.

white jasmines from ochako. sweet love.

heathers from tenya. admiration and solitude.

freesias from tsuyu. thoughtfulness.

hydrangeas from shouto. thank you for understanding.

everyday, more flowers bloom in his being and izuku weeps at his friends’ love. thank you, he whispers, i love you too. his flowers for them convey the intensity of his feelings.

one quiet day when everyone is still asleep and the sun is barely breaching from the clouds, izuku coughs and coughs and coughs.

asphodel. i’m sorry.

purple hyacinth. forgive me.

pink camellia. i long for you.

red chrysanthemum. i love you.

with these flowers in hand, izuku runs to katsuki’s room. “kacchan?” he asks despite the coughs that threaten to scratch at his throat again.

(from inside his room, katsuki coughs out a heliotrope. eternal love. he stands. “yeah de—izuku?”)
